Chapter 225: The Truth Of The World (2)

Suddenly, all the odd and mysterious things happening in this world made sense.

At the point when there were almost no humans left, mutants started keeping humans like animals — this was a shocking truth. Back then, to prevent humans from disappearing completely, the strongest grown-up mutants took their bones and used their big skeletons to make the Tower — the place that people now think was very special and holy.

The safe place, the paradise that people talked about and praised in their songs, was actually a big fence where monsters kept humans locked up. The Tower was made from combining powerful mutant bones to scare and remind all the young and unknowing young mutants to stay away.

No approaching, no trespassing, no killing.

Inside the fence was their farm, a spot where they kept humans locked up. That was why mutants never attacked near the Tower, not even coming close to the outposts, where the blocks of the Tower were.

"Why are you keeping humans locked up in the first place?" Kestrel asked again.

"We are not very strong kind," the Queen said. "Staying alive and having babies are really hard for us, not like the other creatures on this planet that are really good at having babies."

Mutants are the stuff of human nightmares, really scary enemies with an almost unbreakable spirit. They can take over human bodies, enter their minds, and create isolated, twisted places like the Polluted Zone. They are almost unbeatable foes for humans.

Kestrel was really surprised that the mutants themselves saw their race as weak.

As if picking up on Kestrel’s thoughts, the Queen turned around, a tiny smile forming on her red lips beneath the black veil. "What are you pondering? The true point of life is in continuation, not in fighting and death."

At this moment, the Queen, with her thin waist, turned away from the gorgeous sea of flowers. Behind her, the flowers were blooming brightly, and a whole bunch of tiny insects were flying around, looking for mates. Even though the sunlight here was really harsh every day, these strong little creatures found ways to make sure they gave birth.

"To make babies, a mantis is even ready to eat its mate on their wedding night. To have babies, flowers make such pretty petals to attract insects. And we, mutants, can only keep our family line going by taking over other living things, which makes us a really weak race."

Turning away from the blossoming sea of flowers, the Queen’s delicate figure looked kind of sad. "Reproduction is very hard for us. Creating just one egg needs really tough conditions. The process of it hatching takes a lot of time and a non-stop flow of psychic power."

The Queen lifted her hand and pointed to the sky. The stars up there vanished, and through it, Kestrel could see what was happening in the real world outside: beyond the mind place, her friends had woken up and were fighting hard against the mutants.

Kestrel could even see herself standing very still with her eyes closed, being protected by the alphas.

In front of the alphas, the ground cracked open, and two mutants were slowly coming out of the ground. These two mutants were odd, not big or having scary teeth and claws, they almost perfectly looked like normal humans in every way, from their faces to their bodies, except they didn’t show any emotions.

One looked like a man and the other a woman, both having the same faces and blank expressions.

Kestrel remembered when they walked into the castle, she had seen the left-over, not finished shells of these two mutants outside the big gate. Back then, their shells were really big and a bit strange. Now, coming out of the ground, they had changed in every way to look exactly like humans.

Before she walked in this place, Kestrel had seen so many shells of mutants, which had changed showing different animal shapes, left around the outside of the castle, these two included. It was odd, as if someone tried to shape different kinds of life and made them change and take new forms over and over. freēwebnovel.com

"Because I am jealous of how you guys can reproduce, I tried a bunch of experiments over the years," the Queen said,

"I mixed together many creatures that are really good at reproduction to see if they could reproduce like humans do, but sadly, they all failed."

Kestrel thought about this and said, "But I’ve seen groups of mutants. They marry and even look after their babies. I met a little mutant who eat his mom, and he looked just like her kid."

"That’s just a basic copy of how humans live," the Queen replied. "We can’t have babies on our own. We can only live inside others and infect them, but without a host, we can’t make babies by ourselves. Look at these two; I used up so much energy to make them just like humans, even making one a boy and one a girl. But in the end, they can’t have babies the way you can."

Looking up at the sky, Kestrel watched those two mutants. How they looked, how they moved, even how they fought was just like humans.

The male mutant was walking towards the alphas. He wasn’t tall and was pretty skinny, but all of a sudden, he swung his leg really hard, kicking the big panda in front of him away out of nowhere, as fast as a disappearing shadow.

Olivia’s huge panda psychic landscape got knocked far away by his kick, its round body hitting a column in the room really hard, causing a big pillar to break with a loud noise. The round panda rolled a few times on the floor before it got up really mad, it ran back towards the one who kicked it, growling and using all its legs.

Halfway there, a super-fast shadow came down from the sky, swinging a sword really fast, trying to cut the rolling panda in half with the force of the fall - it was the female mutant. She moved as fast as a ghost, attacking suddenly from above with a sword, the round panda didn’t have time to dodge. Luckily, Ren stepped in just in time, stopping her with his red sword, the sound of the swords hitting each other rang sharply in the air.

They quickly moved away from each other.

The female mutant jumped back to where she was before, her face looked cold as she licked the blade with her tongue. Ren was on one knee, lifting his head, with a red mark showing on his good-looking face.

On the other side, the male mutant who had kicked the panda did a bunch of really fast kicks, knocking Raymond down super quickly before trying to poke Raymond’s eyes out with his fingers.

Rakan’s unicorn got there just in time to save Raymond from being hurt more. Even so, there were three red scratches left on Raymond’s face.

The two mutants, who looked exactly the same, stood with their backs to each other, one licking her sword, and the other wiping his bloody fingers.
