Chapter 86: Desire To Stay
"P-president?!"
"Y-you’re already here?!"
"..."
While the Waretin brothers were quite surprised by Xander’s sudden appearance, Lisa seemed more on edge as she averted her gaze and body from him.
"It seems like you’re having problems with those two. Need a hand?" Xander asked with a wide grin.
His hands were in his pockets as he descended to the ground, showing off his magic control.
"The situation has changed... Even if it’s the two of us, we-"
Mika’s sigh interrupted Belian’s sentence.
"Nothing has changed." he stated as his previously sharpened gaze turned back to an indifferent one.
"!"
Belian faced Mika with his entire body.
"You... Don’t you understand the situation we’re in?"
It was rare for Belian to get so worked up. Most of the time he remained expressionless.
"..."
However, Mika did not pay any attention to him and stared at Xander, who stood between them and the other disciplinary committee members.
"Seems like I was wrong about you..." Belian muttered disappointed with a hint of grief in his eyes.
He grabbed Mika’s collar and pulled him closer to himself.
"Is it because you don’t hold back anymore? Your powerful ability? No. It doesn’t even matter..."
"..."
"Just know that the Mika Elbar, I faced back then, was not an arrogant fool, who couldn’t see the bigger picture."
"I don’t know what you’re talking about." freeωebnovēl.c૦m
With his chin still lifted, Mika looked into Belian’s furious eyes.
Belian’s grip on Mika’s collar was still tight.
"..."
"?"
When Mika took a glance to the side, he kicked Belian away from him.
And just shortly after that, a heavy wind slash breezed between the two.
"You done talking now?" Xander asked bored as he shrugged his shoulders.
Belian and Mika took up their fighting stances again.
"Elfran. Do it." Xander commanded.
"Yes, sir!"
"I will handle Belian. You take care of him in the meantime." Xander added while pointing at Mika.
"Yes, sir!"
"..."
Xander threw a glance at Mika.
"That appearance... It couldn’t be that, right...?" he muttered, appearing somewhat nervous, which was unusual for him.
Then, a firewall emerged, splitting up Mika and Belian. The two jumped to the sides reflexively.
The fire wall, which Elfran created, was so high, it could even reach the third story of a building.
"How silly."
Mika raised Excalibur, facing the firewall.
"Not so fast!"
Lisa appeared behind Mika with her rapier in her hand.
"We’re also here!"
Furthermore, the Waretin brothers managed to get between Mika and the firewall.
[30 seconds left.]
"..."
While Mika had to face the other three white-class students, another battle started on the other side of the wall.
"What’s with that grim expression of yours? Isn’t this what you desired? A fight against me?" Xander teased Belian, who was tensed up.
"..."
"Now show me if you’re worth my time!" Xander said, grinning mischievously.
Meanwhile, another event was still ongoing in the academy’s main hall.
The black class was fighting back against the other classes.
The students punched and kicked each other. They shot off their magic. They shouted.
It was a complete mess. ƒreewebɳovel.com
Harik and Rachel were still on the sidelines, watching this conflict. However, surprisingly Ralph Arma and Erwin Linster, the teachers of the first-year classes, joined the two.
"I’m still wondering, but shouldn’t you stop the students as teachers?" Harik asked.
Ralph wore a warm smile.
"That’s correct. Normally we, the teachers, must stop any conflicts between students, but..."
"If we stop them now, this conflict won’t stop in the near future. Letting the students battle this out on such a grand scale, involving almost every student, this conflict will hopefully find its end." Erwin elaborated sternly.
"Isn’t that a bit cruel?" Rachel asked.
"It is indeed. If the silver-red class wins this, then the discrimination towards the black class students won’t stop."
"But didn’t you just say that this will end with this battle?"
"As teachers, we aren’t allowed to favor certain students or groups, of students, however we’re still people. Of course, we want this to end." Ralph stated.
"And the optimal outcome would be for the black class students to win." Erwin added.
"I see..."
Erwin glanced at Rachel.
"Why do you sound so skeptical?"
"..."
She hesitated.
"Why do you all think that they can win against the silver-red class...? They may have an advantage due to their numbers, but the skill gap between the two parties is still a lot bigger..."
Erwin sighed.
"That’s what you get from sleeping so much." Harik remarked teasingly as he shook his head with a slightly smug grin.
"Huh? What did you say?" Rachel replied annoyed.
"We’ve spent almost an entire month with that class. We saw them getting ridiculed, broken and beaten up. Do you think that deep down they don’t have the ambition to rise again and to prove their worth?" Harik explained confidently.
"..."
Rachel paid more attention to the black class now.
"They are not here to get bullied."
Some black class fell to the ground all beaten up.
"They are here to learn all kinds of things. To meet new people. To get stronger. To reach new heights."
Some students helped those fallen students up again and lent them their shoulders.
"They are here because they want to."
Despite the graveness of their current situation, they all had smiles on their faces.
"And now is the moment for them to show everyone their desire to stay here." Harik stated.
The black class was clearly inferior to the other classes.
"Tch...! What’s up with them?!" a red-class student complained as he kept firing off one fireball after another.
And yet, they did not back down.
"Argh!"
The first silver-class students at the front started to fall.
"Keep it up, guys!" Adrian, a prominent figure in the black class shouted enthusiastically.
He acted as a front fighter, while those, who were more adept with magic, supported him from the back.
"Ugh"
"Hey, are those traitors still not down?!"
"Knock them out first! They’re the bigger problem!"
Students from the other classes shouted wildly around as they found themselves in panic.
"Help the others! Give them support with your magic! Adin! Ron! Sorry, but it seems like our job is not done yet!"
It was Gerard, a silver-class student, who caused chaos among the silver-red class numbers.
He and other students, who are against Cail’s agenda, used this moment as a chance to retaliate.
With their higher-ranked magic, they helped out the black class students.
Gerard and a few others actively fought back at the front with Adrian on their side.
"D-damnit!"
The silver-red class appeared to get pushed back a little.
"The favor of this battle starts to shift to one side." Ralph said contently.
With boosted morals, the black class pushed forward more energetically and more aggressively.
"A-are they really black class students...?"
"Didn’t Cail say that we shouldn’t worry about them...?"
Most of the red-class students remained unscratched from the battle, compared to the all banged-up students from the black class. Still, their opinions began to change and their motivation got even lower.
"Wait..." Erwin muttered deeply in thought.
"What’s wrong, Mr. Linster?" Rachel asked.
"Now that I’m thinking about it, where are Cail and his usual companions?"
Back to Mika.
"Haa... Haa..." Mika was gasping for air.
He undid his transformation a long time ago, supporting his barely standing body with his rusty sword.
"Do you... Do you still wish to fight...?" Lisa asked, being as exhausted as him.
She was the last one standing from her group as Elfran and Elwan were lying unconsciously on the ground.
"If I truly had the choice, then I would rather avoid continuing this... However, I know that you will still keep on going after me, right...?" Mika replied with a smirk.
With great struggle, she raised her rapier.
"Unfortunately, you’re right..." she said, returning a smirk.
Mika looked slightly to the back, where the firewall was. Behind it, Belian and Xander were fighting.
"!"
However, when he let his guard down for a moment, his upper body got slashed diagonally, starting from his left chest to his waist.
"Argh...!"
He crouched down immediately clenching his shallow wound.
"I was looking for you, Mika."
"Tch...!"
It was a familiar voice.
"Cail Maystra?"
Lisa was not expecting him to appear.
"Guys, go and treat her." he ordered his companions.
"What are you d-"
"I will handle this matter from now on." he declared arrogantly, patting Lisa on her shoulder.
Cail slowly approached Mika, grinning widely from one ear to the other.
"Your timing couldn’t be any better..." Mika joked with a dry smile.
At the same time, the firewall behind Mika dispersed.
"Hm? Why are you here?"
"!"
Mika turned around.
With enlarged eyes, he looked at the new view.
"..."
Belian was on the ground.
"I just happened to see a familiar face while I was strolling around here, brother." Cail answered relaxed.
"I see."
"..."
Mika was injured, had no strength left and could not use his powers anymore.
And now he found himself between the Maystra brothers.
