Chapter 145: Socializing
"..."
Looking like he had the biggest headache, Mika strolled around the shelter.
After Olivia announced her plan to make him and Ophelia her successors for her seat in the Grand Order, she dismissed Mika.
"Me? A member of the Grand Order? You’ve got to be kidding me...!"
He shook his head wildly in denial.
[But can you deny it though? The you right now possess the qualifications to compete with those of the Grand Order. If I were Olivia Rostanta, then I would have most likely made the same decision to appoint you as a potential candidate.]
"It’s not like I think that I’m completely unworthy- Argh, what am I saying?!"
This time, he strongly ruffled his hair, embarrassed by his own statement.
"It’s just that I don’t want to!"
"I initially wanted to laze around once I’m done with my academy time!"
[...]
The system needed some time to react properly to Mika’s outrageous reason.
[If someone like Lily had heard you, then your head would fly.]
"..."
Mika was pouting a little.
"I know, I know... No matter how much I lament about it now, nothing will change, right? Is it safe to assume that being a member of the Grand Order is my final destination? I mean, you were talking from time to time about something like a promised path and the like, didn’t you?"
The system let out a small chuckle.
"Wait, did I hear you just laugh?"
Mika was shocked. After all, it was rare for the system to show emotions even close to joy.
[Being a part of the Grand Order may be one of the greatest achievements here but to your dismay, your journey won’t just end there.]
"What else is there for me to reach then?"
Mika had an askance look.
[Once you receive every installment, all of your questions will be answered by me. Be patient until then.]
"Tch... Again, you talked your way out of it..." Mika clicked his tongue silently.
[No matter how quiet you are, I can still hear you clearly.]
"..."
With scorn, Mika reflexively looked at the grey sky.
"?"
But his focus immediately shifted to the front when he noticed familiar people in his vicinity.
Yarjak Tiam, the brother of Sara Tiam and the crown prince of the nation of Grat, was wandering aimlessly.
Gerard Armwright, a silver-class student and Mika’s roommate, was seemingly searching for someone.
And then, there were Belian Ziva and Harik Srong, two white-class students, who were sitting on boxes outside of a tent. While Belian appeared calm, Harik looked bored.
Those four individuals shared one common point: They were friends with Mika.
"Mika Elbar?"
"Ah, Mika! I’ve been looking for you!"
"..."
"Mika!"
And therefore, the four reacted at the sight of Mika.
"?"
The four looked at each other for a moment upon the realization that they all called out to Mika simultaneously.
"Yo. What were you doing?" Mika casually said to the group.
"I was just taking a walk as Sara had an appointment with other people." Yarjak replied, shrugging his shoulders.
"I was looking for you, Mika. Having so much time on my hands, I thought that it would be nice to hang out with you again. Especially, after what just happened." Gerard explained embarrassed.
"We just had nothing to do." Belian replied stoically.
"Sylvia, Rachel and Lily went somewhere else, leaving the two of us behind." Harik added with a smile.
"O-oh, is that so...?" Mika replied stiffly, overwhelmed with the different answers.
"Then, how about we all hang out together?" Mika asked, scratching the back of his head.
However, now that he was thinking about it, this may be the first time, Mika spent time with a group with just boys his age.
"Sure, why not?"
"I agree!"

But the next thing to think about was what they could do in their current circumstances.
Due to the invasion, they could not go to the city nor could they sit down in a restaurant or go drink some tea.
"We’re already so why don’t we go into our tent? There’s enough space for all of us." Belian suggested, pointing at the tent behind them.
And following his advice, they all went in.
"..."
But now, they were all just standing in the vast center of the tent as there was no furniture like chairs in there.
"Guys, give me a second."
Suddenly, Gerard touched the ground with his palm.
"Oh~"
Everyone, except Belian, gasped in amazement when thick roots emerged from the soil, intertwined with each other and thus, formed chairs to sit on.
"For the time being, these should suffice, I think." Gerard said with a satisfied smile when he took a seat.
Now, they did not have to sit on the floor and could converse while sitting properly.
"..."
But the awkward mood was still dominating the air.
They could not remember the last time was when they could relax and casually chat with friends as the invasion still left a great mark on their minds and bodies.
Especially, Mika could not remember when he ever talked about trivial things with them aside from Gerard, who shared a room with him.
[What a pitiful sight.]
"...."
The veins on Mika’s forehead were bursting due to the system’s remark.
Still, it was right.
However, on the girls’ side, things looked much more different.
While most of the academy grounds, including the dorms, were destroyed, a few places were still intact.
Near the dorms and the shelters was a small area with multiple benches.
And on one of those benches Sara, Rachel, Lily and Sylvia were sitting.
As there was not much space for four people, Rachel and Sylvia respectively sat on an ice block and a chair made out of roots, like Gerard.
They had been sitting there for a while already and they were still chatting and laughing joyfully, forgetting Loogam’s current state for that moment.
Before she had to depart, Sara wanted to hang out with Lily and the others one last time, unbeknownst to the decision the higher-ups made.
Sara Tiam, the crown princess of Grat, was considered the sword prodigy despite her young age. However, she was lacking in other aspects, thus, needing her brother to take care of them, especially if it was paperwork.
That was another reason why she let him attend a private meeting between the representatives of Loogam, Grat, Malnor and Rostanta before Lucio’s announcement in the arena a while ago.
However, that aside, she, too, wanted to enjoy moments where she could behave like a girl her age.
And not only she, but the other three girls beside her needed that as well, even if some of them were oblivious to that desire.
"...and there was one time when Sylvia was walking and talking in her sleep! She even went to Mika’s room and snuggled up to- Ugh!"
Gotten careless, Lily blurted out an embarrassing moment of Sylvia but she was hit by the involved person.
"Do you perhaps want to explain to them why you know about that so detailed?" Sylvia asked provokingly despite blushing a little.
"..."
Rachel was staring daggers at the two of them, whereas Sara’s eyes were glittering in excitement.
"Tell us more!" she said like a child.
"Assuming that I was indeed sleepwalking, a certain someone was already hugging him underneath the sheets tightly." Sylvia elaborated, taking a side glance at the reddening Lily.
"Y-y-you did what! It should have been m-"
"And what happened next?!"
Sara’s curiosity pushed Rachel’s wrath to the back.
"I think our teacher came in and scolded us..." Sylvia answered, caressing her head on the spot where that person hit her.
"Your teacher...? Wait, does it mean that the teacher also wanted something from Mika back then?!"
Her thoughts ran wild.
"H-huh?"
Even Sylvia was taken aback.
"W-well, I guess-"
"Certainly not."
"Ah."
The one interrupting Sylvia in a cold tone was none other than the person involved.
Ophelia.
"Ms. Ross!"
Lily jumped out of her seat in happiness at the sight of Ophelia with whom she had not had the chance yet to talk normally since she departed for the rescue mission back then in the second month of the first term.
The others followed suit.
"I’m here, too, you know...?" Cindy muttered heartbroken behind Ophelia.
"What are you girls doing here?" Ophelia asked.
"We’re just hanging out." Lily replied with a smile.
"And what about you teachers?" Sylvia wondered.
"Oh, we? That woman dragged me outside to make me take her for a walk." Ophelia responded tiredly.
"H-hey, don’t make me sound like a desperate dog!" Cindy complained.
"Then, why don’t you join us now that you’re here?" Rachel suggested, already creating two additional chairs for them.
"The more the merrier!" Sara agreed with Rachel.
"I guess, we can do that, after all, I wanted to catch up with you as well." Ophelia stated with a slight smile.
Thus, the girls’ side was finally complete.
