Chapter 128: Change Of Plans
At the east gate.
Dozens of monster corpses were on the ground, spreading their blood on the soil and the stench in the air.
It felt like at least 100 monsters were slain but those, who fought against them, still did not see the end to it.
All the students were already exhausted with no magic to spare anymore.
However, among the students, there were unfortunately also some death casualties.
The teachers, who were sent to the two demons, were also on the losing side.
In the beginning, four teachers were fighting but now the number dimmed down to just two.
Yarjak Tiam was helping the students retreat while being tired as well.
But he could not let it show on his face as his little sister, Sara Tiam, was bravely fighting alone against the demons.
She protected the remaining two teachers.
Her body was aching in pain and exhaustion but she kept going. Blood was everywhere on her, whether it was her own or the blood of her enemies.
"Can you still fight, Tupis?" Toyo asked.
Her expression was stern.
"Don’t take me for a fool! I was just caught off guard! That’s all!" he replied vexed.
Toyo was still unscathed, whereas Tupis, the B-rank demon, was missing his left arm.
"..."
Sara did not smile. Her eyes were wide open, filled with bloodlust.
She leaped into the air and aimed her horizontal slash at Tupis.
"!"
He flew a great distance away from her.
"That sword’s ability is a pain in the ass!"
His frustration towards her sword stemmed from the case of his missing arm.
Previously, Sara had managed to land a shallow cut on his left arm, which widened until his arm fell off.
"..."
Sara took a deep breath when she landed on the ground.
"Are you sure you don’t want to join us? We’re actually looking for people as capable as you." Toyo asked Sara.
She was sitting with crossed legs in the air.
"..."
Sara did not respond and only glared at her.
"Based on your fighting skills, you may even receive a high-ranking position in our army. What do you say?"
In response, Sara only pointed her sword at Toyo.
"Are you seriously telling me that you’re recruiting humans to your army?"
She sounded offended.
"Only those, who we deem fit." Toyo answered with a relaxed smile.
"And you’re saying that I match your criteria?"
"Yup."
"..."
Then, Sara appeared before Toyo and swung her sword with great killing intent.
But she dodged.
"Don’t ignore me!" Tupis chimed in from behind as he kicked her in the back, sending her to the ground.
Toyo sighed.
"I interpret that as a rejection then..."
She looked down pitifully.
"But you will regret this decision one day."
Tupis and Toyo slowly descended down to her.
"Let’s end this, Tupis."
"Yeah!"
However, before they could take one step closer to her, they halted.
"!"
Their bodies flinched.
"W-who’s there?!" Tupis asked hurriedly, turning his head around.
"No way... Why is he here...?" Toyo muttered in disbelief.
Revealing themselves on the roof of the partly destroyed building behind them, were Harik, Rachel and Loogam’s most important figure, Lucio Graymen.
"Can you two please go and help the other students? I can handle it here alone." Lucio asked kindly.
"Yes!" Rachel and Harik obeyed frankly.
Sara slowly got up under the rubble of a building.
"S-shouldn’t you be at the shelter...?" she asked weakly.
Lucio walked over to her, ignoring the demons beside her.
"Ms. Sunoma took over for me." he replied with a soft smile as he helped her up.
"You’ve done a great job. Now, you can rest easy. I’m here now." he added, carrying her in his arms like a princess.
She wanted to say something but her eyes closed.
"..."
Toyo and Tupis broke into a cold sweat.
Their legs did not move even though they wanted to get away.
The two could only stare flabbergasted as Lucio put Sara down at a spot somewhat further away from the demons.
Then, he turned his gentle smile to the demons.
"Well, then... Let’s have a nice talk, shall we?"
While the favor changed at the east gate, the two demons, who destroyed Loogam’s northeast part, met worthy opponents near the prison.
After escaping the prison, Hecto Togin led the group of other prisoners against the duo of a B-rank and C-rank demon.
With him, there were roughly over 20 people with a few red-class students.
He divided the group into two. One group had more people and was fighting against the C-rank demon while the other group was personally led by him. They were facing the B-rank demon.
"Do you think that would be enough?" the B-rank demon said, unfazed by them.
Hecto stepped forward.
He held his sword, whose shape was strange for a sword.
Its blade was formed in a zigzag-like manner and was too short to even be called a longsword and too long to be called a dagger.
"To be honest, I think that I alone would suffice against you." Hecto stated with a provoking grin.
"Is that so?" the demon replied with a frown.
Hecto swung his weapon and as he did, the blade straightened.
Or rather, it turned loose and limp.
The demon narrowed his eyes on the weapon.
"I call this creation of mine ’Serpent Blade’." Hecto declared proudly as he pointed it at the demon.
At first, nothing happened.
The people in Hecto’s group started to wonder if he was alright in his head. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"!"
However, the demon suddenly felt that something sharp grazed his cheek.
He turned around and saw the blade of the so-called ’Serpent Blade’ chasing him like a snake.
Hecto only held the sword up and let the stretching blade do its thing.
He was humming peacefully while the blade spread longer in the air, chasing after the fleeing demon.
"The blade won’t stop enlarging itself until it got you~" Hecto whistled cheekily.
"C-can the blade really stretch itself for so long...?" one of the prisoners asked nervously.
"I don’t know." Hecto answered silently with a carefree smile.
"H-huh?"
"It’s a prototype, so I don’t know its limits either."
"And if I were to be honest, I wanted to stop the blade a long time ago but I don’t know how." he added innocently.
"Huh?!"
In the meantime, somewhere not that far away from this fight a person finally woke up.
"Where am I...? The infirmary...?" Lily muttered softly.
Her eyes were still half-open and her vision blurry.
The infirmary was located in the northwest part of the academy and was therefore still unaffected by any fights.
Lily lifted her upper body and looked around.
No one was there.
She did not hear anyone nor did she feel anyone’s presence here.
However, she picked up faint sounds of battles.
"Is Mika’s match still ongoing? If I hurry, I may be able to watch the end."
"Hngh...!" she let out a straining sound as she stretched her body.
Then, she checked her body and proceeded to change into her uniform.
"I wonder where the people are...?"
In the unknown, she left the infirmary and was now outside.
"..."
Confused, she stared at the grey sky and at her surroundings.
The walls were in the way but she could still see the smoke coming from everywhere outside the academy.
Her body tensed up.
"What i-is that presence..."
She hugged herself.
Her head shifted from one direction to the other one.
Screams and battles were heard everywhere she looked.
"W-what’s going on...?!"
She did not know anything. Her friends were not there. No person was there. No signs of people were visible.
Her head started to ache as she started to get flooded with thoughts.
"M-maybe I should head to the arena first..." she muttered with an anxious smile.
However, the moment she took a step forward with her shaking leg, her body got goosebumps.
The presence of strong people emitted from the arena’s direction.
Strong may be the false word to describe them.
For her, they were rather overwhelmingly dangerous individuals.
"What now...?" she wondered, smiling nervously.
She just woke up with nothing to inform her about the current situation.
"Is this an invasion...?"
It was a logical conclusion.
"But who-"
She stopped herself.
She knew who the invaders were based on the pressure she just felt.
"Impossible..."
Lily took a few steps back.
"Ugh!"
At that moment, her head suddenly started to sting even more.
"..."
An eerie voice echoed in her head but she could not comprehend its words.
The echoing voice turned louder and shriller in her head.
Lily grabbed her head tighter the louder it got.
Her body started to move.
She turned her back on the arena and walked in the direction of Loogam’s north gate, where Ralph and his colleagues were facing Martha and another B-rank demon.
"Why..." she murmured in pain.
She was staggering as she walked.
"Why is it telling me to go to the north gate?"
"And why..."
"Why is it telling me to free it...?"
