Chapter 102: Affection(?)
"Sorry, but we have to go. Before the second round starts, we want to prepare ourselves."
"It was nice talking with you! Let’s chat again some time!"
Sylvia and Lily bid Mika and the Tiam siblings farewell as they were heading back to the resting hall.
"Sure, sorry for interrupting you."
"Bye-bye!"
"I will root for the two of you."
They waved their hands at each other until only the two girls’ backs were facing them.
"Hm?"
Mika squinted his eyes when he saw Sylvia taking one last look at him.
He tilted his head slightly, seeing her faint and pitying smile directed at him.
However, he did not pay her any heed and faced Sara and Yarjak.
"Do you want to turn back, too?" he asked.
The siblings agreed as Yarjak’s main goal was to meet Lily.
Thus, the three went back to the VIP lounge.
On their way, Mika and Yarjak were talking while Sara was walking ahead of them, staring at all kinds of things like a curious child.
"So you’re in love with Lily, huh...?" Mika stated, still sounding shocked.
"Yes. It was love at first sight."
Yarjak grabbed his chest as he blushed like a young maiden in love.
"I was captured on the spot by her stunning beauty and her might." He added proudly.
"Then what about Sylvia? She’s also a strong student, earning herself a spot in the highest-ranked class, the white class."
"You have a point. I won’t deny, she also matches my description, however, something tells me that
Lily is destined for something greater..." Yarjak replied, suddenly turning pensive.
"..."
Mika was looking to the front.
Hearing Yarjak’s assumption made him remember Lily’s initial goal. Becoming strong enough to get recognized by every living being on Lorw.
Striving to become a member of the Grand Order meant becoming one of the strongest in the world.
Only after she achieved that, the person – or rather the angel – she was looking for, would notice her.
According to her.
In the end, Yarjak was not that far away from his assumption that she was destined for something greater. After all, there was almost nothing greater than being in the Grand Order.
Mika accidentally let out a sigh.
"Did I perhaps offend you or anyone?" Yarjak wondered.
"Oh, sorry, no... I was just-"
"Isn’t it obvious, Bro?" Sara meddled in as she turned to the two boys.
"Were you listening to our conversation, Sara?"
"I didn’t mean to but it was impossible to not hear you talking."
"W-what did you mean with it being obvious...?" Mika asked with a forced smile.
Sara looked bluntly at Mika.
"Hm? Of course it’s obvious because you’re in love with Lily, too, right?"
"What?"
"H-h-huh...?!"
Yarjak was surprised for a moment but not as surprised as Mika, who turned rigid.
"It’s the truth, isn’t it?" Sara said innocently.
"H-haha...! Sara, I think those two are just friends. Not every boy and girl, who know each other, are automatically a couple, silly." Yarjak laughed nervously.
"Why are you talking to me like I’m a kid?" she responded with a pout.
"Because you’re a kid, haha!"
It was clear that Yarjak was acting as if her previous statement was a joke.
"You’re just one year older than me!"
"..."
The two siblings argued with each other like typical siblings.
And while they did so, Mika got more and more immersed in his thoughts.
Him falling in love?
That was something Mika never questioned himself before in his entire life.
Naturally, there were people he considered as the opposite sex in his group of acquaintances. And he would lie if he would say that he was not attracted to them in some sort of way.
That sort of attraction referred to, for example, moments when he was taken aback by their looks or by the emotional and physical distance.
However, it had never crossed his mind before if there was something akin to love.
He knew that he loved his parents.
Still, did he feel love towards someone else?
At that moment, a few faces flashed in his mind.
"..."
Mika’s face reddened quickly.
"Look, I was right then!" Sara said, pointing at Mika while she and Yarjak were discussing.
He shook his head in denial.
"No way... There’s no way... Right?" he muttered in disbelief.
At his age, a person was about to start the exploration of the unknown. Of the thing called love.
As of now, Mika was not sure about his feelings but maybe it was time for him now to start thinking about it.
"Is he in his own world?"
"Maybe that is the case."
Sara and Yarjak were trying to gain Mika’s attention but he did not respond to them.
He was still pondering.
"Maybe I should ask them for advice after the tournament..."
He snapped back to reality.
"W-woah...!"
He flinched and staggered backward after seeing Sara and Yarjak from up close.
"W-why were you so close to my face...?"
"Well, why were you suddenly ignoring us?" Sara pouted.
"Was it of the thing that my foolish sister said? If yes, then I sincerely apologize." Yarjak said sternly as he was about to express his way of apologizing.
"I gue- I mean... No! She did nothing wrong." Mika corrected himself, waving his hands wildly, denying Sara’s guilt.
"Then what was it then?" Sara wondered.
"I was just saving you, you know...?" Mika muttered, making it inaudible for the two of them.
"I’m sorry, I did not catch that."
Yarjak was leaning closer with his ear.
"Maybe you were just imagining that, haha!" Mika laughed it off.
"?"
Sara was also confused.
"A-anyways, we’re almost at the lounge!" Mika said stiffly as he took the lead.
And just like he said, it did not take long until they finally arrived in the VIP lounge.
"Finally back?" Oliva greeted them with her typical smirk.
"Did you also meet with Sylvia and Lily? I mean, they were most likely also going to the resting hall."
Ophelia wondered, knowing beforehand that the three of them wanted to go to the resting hall.
"Yes, we happened to come across them!" Sara replied happily.
Meanwhile, her brother seemed timid again.
"You came just in time! The second round is about to start!" Norman stated with a big smile.
Elsa and Lereon were still standing on guard without a change in their expressions or demeanor.
"What’s wrong, Mika? You’re practically burning." Ophelia asked confused.
"!"
Mika was hastily touching his cheeks, only to realize that his face was really getting warmer with it getting redder.
"Did something happen?"
She directed the question to the Tiam siblings.
"Hmm... Not really but he started to act weirdly after our talk about lo- Hmpf?!"
"B-be quiet, okay...?"
Mika cut off Sara by putting his hand on her mouth.
He forced a smile despite sweating heavily.
"Heh, look at you. Already being this chummy with royalties from other nations." Olivia remarked teasingly.
Ophelia tilted her head, still being suspicious towards Mika.
"!"
Coincidently, Ophelia and Mika happened to look each other in the eyes, causing Mika to blush even harder.
"..."
He let go of Sara and walked to Elsa.
"What are you doing?" Elsa asked.
"I-I was just thinking that it may be a nice change of pace to stand instead of sitting all the time..." he replied nervously.
"Sure..." Elsa responded, looking at Mika as if he was weird. freewebnovёl.ƈom
Then, the second round began.
But just like the first round, Sylvia and Lily breezed through their competition, earning themselves the spots as the tournament’s favorites to win it all. freewёbnoνel.com
Due to the number of participants being half of the number during the first round, the second round ended accordingly earlier.
Day 2 ended on a peaceful note and everyone was now eager for the third day, when the finalists will be decided.
The people in the arena slowly left their seats and headed home.
Mika, in turn, quickly headed to the door, however, he got stopped before he could even open the door.
"Wait a minute, Mika!" Sara called him out with a bright smile.
"H-how can I help you?"
Initially, he wanted to get out of there quickly as he could not bear to be in a certain person’s presence any longer.
Since the earlier conversation, he felt shy and embarrassed whenever he thought about them or looked at them.
"I heard there was a place in the vicinity used for sparring."
"O-oh, really? That sounds like fun. How about you go there with your brother?" Mika said, forcing a smile.
Deep down, Mika felt eerily.
He did not know what it was, however, that question was answered faster than he anticipated.
"Huh? What are you talking about? You’re coming with us, too, of course!" she said, treating his previous words as a joke.
"Well, I-"
He stopped when he saw the familiar sight again.
Floating words.
And to top it off, the familiar voice echoed in his head.
