Chapter 80: Doctor’s Orders

Training was every bit as hellish as Damon promised. He had given me a fantastic weapon, but that wasn’t enough to pull me from the depths of hell. If anything, it was the very reason why I was beaten black and blue, my muscles sore and aching, and my bones feeling like they were scattered everywhere as I sat on the infirmary bed.

"The Alpha should’ve gone easier on you," Nicole said with a pout.

I hissed when she dabbed the alcohol cotton puff against the bruise at the corner of my mouth. Instinctively, I pulled away, but Nicole’s arm was firm. She continued to press it against my skin until she deemed the wound clean.

"It’s been four consecutive days," Elijah said with a sigh. "And every day after training, she ends up here with worse and worse injuries."

"I asked for it," I said, clenching my teeth together when Nicole added more medication to a different bruised area. She didn’t have a lot of those in stock and I was single-handedly depleting her supply since my body healed much slower than an average werewolf still. "There’s still ways to go before I am ready to see Blaise. I don’t have time to waste."

"You need to rest," Nicole said, huffing. "Your body isn’t given a chance to recover. Like this, it’s just a matter of time before you break down and collapse."

"I don’t have the luxury of time," I said through gritted teeth. "There’s only three days left before I―"

I cut myself short. What was I doing?! They didn’t know about Lydia, especially not that I had already found her and was planning to meet her by the end of the week. Nicole might not tattle but Elijah might head straight to Damon if he found out about our plans.

"Three days?" Elijah echoed. "Beta Blaise is definitely going to the border for longer than just a week. You don’t have to rush your training by this much."

I bit my bottom lip, not knowing what to say. Maybe I should just remain silent. After all, I had already said enough to land me into some hot waters.

"I understand how hard it is to be away from your mate, but you have to be patient," Nicole chided. "You are not going to be doing yourself or your mate any good like this if you’re to overexert yourself and collapse here."

"But―"

"That’s it," Nicole said. She placed her medical tools down on the table, the metal tray clanking as she did. "No more training for you for at least two days. You need time to build up your tolerance― you can’t just follow the same training regime as the other experienced fighters. I’m telling the Alpha to halt your training. Doctor’s orders."

"Oh, come on, Nicole, I can― Ah, shit!"

In the midst of my argument, I had stood up a little too suddenly. The muscles in my legs screamed in protest, tightening and cramping until I could no longer stand on my own two feet. I fell back onto the bed, expletives slipping from my lips one after the other as Nicole and Elijah quickly ran over to my side.

"This is what you get for insisting you’re alright," a new voice said from the infirmary doors, causing me to scowl immediately.

"I was only following whatever exercises you ordered me to do," I fired back, glaring hotly at Damon. He leaned against the doorframe, watching as Nicole buzzed over me like a busy bee while Elijah stood by my bedside, confused about what he must do.

Seeing that the Alpha was here, Elijah quickly straightened up. He cleared his throat, walking over to Damon.

"Alpha!"

"Go have your rest," Damon said before Elijah could say anything else. "I’ll handle it from here."

"Yes, Alpha." Elijah turned back, offering me a sheepish smile before slinking out the door. It took me a second to realize that he did exactly what I had guessed he would do.

He ratted out on me to Damon! Elijah was probably the one who had told Damon I was in here if the latter didn’t know already.

"Don’t glare at Elijah like that," Nicole said with a small grin. "I was the one that told the Alpha to come get you."

"Nicole?" Her name escaped my lips in disbelief. She was the one who had actually sold me to the devil!

"You need the rest, I’m serious," she reiterated. Then, she turned to face Damon before shoving a heap of packed medical supplies into his hands. "And I’ll be depending on you to ensure that, Alpha Damon."

"Your words are law," he said, leaning down and placing one arm under my knees and another behind my back to support me. Effortlessly, he lifted me off the bed as though I weighed nothing more than a feather.

"Oh, you jest," Nicole said, batting off the comment. "I am sure there are less taxing ways to train. Maybe theory?"

The corners of Damon’s lips twitched. "I know other ways to train her," he said. "Don’t worry about it. She won’t be setting foot in the training field for the next two days."

With that said, Damon carried me out of the room. The corridor he was headed down was familiar, a route I recognized was headed straight for his own bedroom.

"How do you expect me to train if I can’t even enter the training grounds?" I asked, exasperated. "I am still not strong enough to handle the staff for long periods of time. If I am to use it as a proper weapon, I need to continue training."

"We can train your stamina during this time," Damon said, not once tearing his gaze away from the road ahead.

"Train my stamina?" My face paled. "I am not running twenty laps around the field, am I?" freewebnøvel.coɱ

"Of course not," Damon said. "I mean what I said― no entering the training grounds for the next two days. In fact, you won’t even have to leave the room."

"How am I supposed to train my stamina then?"

Damon smirked. "Sex is a great way to train your stamina. Would you like to try?" fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

"Oh, over my dead body!"
