Chapter 151: Ever So Serious
Those grim looks changed into shock and disbelief as they saw their prestigious alpha get out of the car naked as the day he was born, without a single stitch of clothing on his body. I followed suit, but barely anyone paid me any attention, since the appeal of Damon’s naked body was simply too shocking for them to tear their eyes away.
Elijah choked, but he was the only one who dared to actually show a reaction. Everyone else was staring gobsmacked at Damon’s body, before they determinedly shifted their gazes to the ground, refusing to meet his narrowed eyes.
"Where are the clothes I asked you to bring?" Damon demanded in lieu of a greeting, and I understood.
Damon must have contacted them to prepare for our arrival.
Elijah hastily handed him a bag.
"Here they are. I bought a new shirt and a pair of pants for you. Honestly, I thought you were pranking me when you contacted me earlier with your request," Elijah confessed, as Damon languidly dressed himself, finally covering up his skin and stopping his werewolves from developing spontaneous heart attacks. "I almost didn’t prepare anything for you."
"Then you would have to strip and give me your clothes instead," Damon said easily without even blinking. Elijah laughed, but I had a feeling Damon was deadly serious. "And you know I never joke."
"Always so modest," Elijah laughed as if he found Damon’s words amusing. I guess with Elijah’s boundless optimism, he must have thought Damon was pulling his leg. Then he caught sight of the bits of dried blood still leftover on Damon’s body and sobered.
"So it’s true then? Is she still unconscious inside?" Elijah asked, giving the car boot a wary look as though he half-expected Elise to leap up from inside.
The other wolves tensed, ready for a fight.
"Yes," Damon scowled. "I’ll need to get a new car now that her blood has infected every part of it. Open the boot."
Elijah did, and two other werewolves stormed forward to pull Elise’s limp body out from the trunk. Thankfully, it didn’t seem like she was awake, but no one wanted to take any chances. They quickly bound her tightly with steel chains and flung her on the floor. I frowned at the blood decorating her clothes; at this rate, she might not even live long enough to be interrogated.
However, Damon was particularly blase about her situation. He sneered at her, before addressing his wolves.
"Keep her guarded at all times," Damon instructed. "Remember to rotate the guards. Do not speak to her. Only let her talk to Kaine."
Elijah nodded, and they dragged her unconscious figure away. I’m guessing they would lock her up in a cell somewhere. Or a dungeon. Did Fangborne even have dungeons? I certainly didn’t see any during my tour of Fangborne.
"Where are you sending her?" I whispered.
"In the interrogation rooms," Damon simply said, his eyes dark. "Now, I need Nicole to give me her husband."

"Kaine, I have a job for you," Damon demanded without so much as a hello. Nicole was clearly used to this sort of brusqueness from Damon for she only sighed.
"Oh, you need Kaine already?" Nicole asked, sounding vaguely disappointed, but it wasn’t as though she could refuse a direct order from her alpha, especially when Blaise was out of the woods. "Ah, I guess you came back just in time. We finished his operation five minutes ago. I didn’t even have enough time to call you!"
That explained why both of them were still wearing their bloodstained overalls, their gloved hands covered in Blaise’s blood.
"Nicole," Kaine only said her name, but it was enough. Nicole nodded and pressed a quick kiss onto his cheek before he took off all his bloodstained overalls and stepped over to Damon’s side.
"I see that my brother is in good hands," Damon said, eyeing a towering pile of silver fragments coated in fresh sticky blood by Blaise’s bedside. "Good job, both of you. Kaine, perhaps healing could be a calling."
"Alpha, please don’t joke," Kaine gave Damon a pained look.
"Like I told Elijah, I never joke," Damon said, his expression stony, but I detected the faintest hint of amusement through the mate bond and snickered.
Nicole giggled and preened at Damon’s praise. A triumphant gleam entered Nicole’s eyes, and she held her head up high now that she had redeemed herself.
As far as I was concerned, Nicole deserved to feel proud. She was nothing less than a miracle worker. It turned out that she had done a scan for Blaise while she operated on him, and she had vaguely remembered the position of the silver fragments embedded in Blaise’s body before the machine had met its untimely end.
So, not only did she manage to stabilize his condition, Nicole had also managed to remove most, if not all, of his silver fragments. Blaise would live well enough for Damon to order another machine for a follow-up operation, if necessary.
Finally, it seemed that things were looking up.
I heaved a sigh of relief as I caught sight of Blaise’s sleeping figure on the bed. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I honestly believed that he was looking much better. I reached out a hand and carefully brushed my fingers against his forehead. It was at just the right temperature, not overly warm or shivering cold.
"Harper, you can stay here with him until he wakes up," Nicole offered, taking off her own gloves and bloodied overalls to wash her hands. "I could use an extra pair of eyes now that Alpha Damon has borrowed my husband."
Damon rolled his eyes. "You say like I’m not giving him back to you. Right, Kaine?"
Kaine wisely held his tongue.
"We’re leaving now," Damon said. He leaned down and squeezed Blaise’s hand in one quick motion, "I’ll see you later, so you better wake up soon."
That display of tender brotherly affection warmed my heart. Damon looked like he wanted to do more, but he had other more pressing tasks on his plate than to watch over his recovering brother. Then his eyes shifted from Blaise to me, and his gaze softened imperceptibly. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Look after him for me," he said. It was not an order in any sense of the word, but I felt it in my bones.
"I don’t need you to tell me that," I said. "Now go on and do whatever you are supposed to do."
