Chapter 125: Connection Between Mates
I remained in Blaise’s arms even long after the sun had set.
We had taken a quick bath together — Blaise was surprisingly well enough to move to the ensuite bathroom without too much of a struggle — and after a long wash, we had all but collapsed into bed in each other’s arms. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
I wasn’t too sure how much time had passed, only that the skies seemed dark outside by the looks of the slightly drawn curtains. Blaise was sound asleep― the activities that had kept us occupied for the last few hours had evidently taken a toll on his body.
He slept soundly and without a sound. All I could feel from him was a wave of calm, paired with the sight of the rise and fall of his chest as he breathed. Gently, I ran a hand through his hair, playing with the strands until a hand suddenly wrapped around mine, startling me.
"We should get back up for dinner," Blaise murmured in my ear. His eyes weren’t open still but by the tone of his voice, it felt as though he had been awake for quite a while already.
"I thought you already had enough to eat," I couldn’t help but add impishly.
My core was still sensitive from his earlier actions; Blaise’s appetite for me was near insatiable as we spent so long apart, and my thighs were still trembling from the aftershocks. Let it not be said that Blaise was a generous lover.
"Naughty." Blaise grinned as he nipped my ear playfully, letting me know how much he approved of my reply.
As Blaise was about to show me how much of an appetite he had for me, a loud growl interrupted us. Blaise and I both stared at his rumbling stomach, before bursting into laughter.
"I guess you need real food inside you after all," I said with a relaxed sigh. "Stay here. I’ll get you something to eat."
"I’ll come with you," he immediately said, preparing to crawl out of bed with me, but I quickly pressed him back down against the mattress.
"No," I firmly said. "You’re still recovering. You need all the bed rest that you can get."
"I definitely wasn’t getting any rest just now," Blaise teasingly quipped back, earning him a light slap on his chest from me.
"Which is why you have to make up for it now!" I returned.
Without allowing Blaise any space to argue, I quickly tidied up my clothes before slipping out of the room, making sure to throw Blaise a look of warning before darting down the stairs.
I had just entered the kitchen when I ran into Nicole and Kaine. They were seated at one of the counters, with Nicole laughing joyously as Kaine fed her some food. He patiently waited for her to finish chewing or speaking before raising a spoon to her lips, repeating the action every once in a while as Nicole recounted a story for which I had no context.
As I approached, Kaine was the first to turn his head to look my way, his expression stoic as Nicole soon followed. Compared to her mate, Nicole looked much more excited to see me. She jumped off her seat at the counter before hopping her way over, holding my hands in hers. freewёbnoνel.com
"How is he?" Nicole asked, her face slowly turning a bright shade of pink. "I can practically smell him off you―"
"Nicole!" I cried out, horrified. I cast a look at Kaine, who looked as though he had heard and seen nothing. He was an unmoving statue, his eyes trained on Nicole as she bobbed and jumped in excitement.
"Oh, what’s there to be shy about?" Nicole said, waving her hand and batting my reaction off. "It’s only natural. Besides, there is nothing that can heal a werewolf’s body like their mate’s touch. Beta Blaise is definitely feeling much better if he could keep up with you for―"
"Nicole, please, spare me," I groaned out loud, burrowing my face into my palms as I begged the energetic woman.
She merely laughed, gesturing to a huge pot of what I assumed was chowder, still simmering on the stove.
"The chefs cooked this not too long ago," she said. "I assume you’re here to fetch some dinner for him?"
I nodded and made my way over to the pot. The closer I got, the stronger the aroma was. Potato and leek soup― a perfectly homey dish that could warm Blaise’s stomach without it being too heavy for him.
"Porridge isn’t nearly enough for him," I said. "He finished it all too quickly and now―"
Yet, I had just picked up the ladle and was about to portion out some food when a sharp pain pierced through my chest. I gasped, dropping the ladle in shock. It fell to the floor with a loud clatter, and I too, keeled over as if someone had just kneed me in the heart. I clawed at my chest, fighting for air as Nicole and Kaine hurried over.
"Harper!" Nicole cried out, coming over to my side. She looked at me, finding no visible wounds, before her face blanched pale.
"It’s Blaise..." I wheezed out. "Something... Something is wrong with him."
No sooner after I said those words, a strong pair of arms lifted me from the ground. I was hit with a familiar scent, and lo and behold, when I looked up, I was met with Damon’s concerned eyes.
"Damon..." I murmured, still holding my chest in pain as I struggled to look at him. "Blaise―"
"I know," he said. "I can feel it."
"Feel it― Oh." Nicole’s mouth fell open in shock as she exchanged a look with Kaine, who offered her a tight-lipped reply.
However, there was no time to untangle the details. Damon barely even cast them a look as he spoke, quickly striding out of the kitchen. He said, "Nicole, get your equipment and meet us in Blaise’s room."
"Yes, Alpha!"
Her reply could barely be heard. Damon had me in his arms and was headed straight for Blaise’s room.
