Chapter 58: Chapter 31: Holy Court Seafood Buffet, Massage, BBQ, and KTV All-in-One (Part 2)
Seeing that Jiang Li was insistent, Yang Mei suddenly asked, "Aren’t you worried you’ll get into a fight with your husband when you get home?"
Jiang Li didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Forget the fact that I’m not even using his money right now. Even if I were, he’d probably just ask if I had enough."
She wasn’t trying to brag, but a man who would give her 100,000 just to play mahjong wasn’t about to argue with her over a few thousand.
If they were going to fight about anything, it would probably be because she went out to eat without him.
But faced with her three friends’ skeptical looks, Jiang Li had no choice but to call Shen Yanzhi to prove her point.
As soon as the call connected, Jiang Li put it on speakerphone.
Mindful of Zhou Jiawen’s presence, she said, "Ah Yan."
Shen Yanzhi paused for a second, a hint of excitement in his voice. "Are you guys finished?"
Jiang Li touched the tip of her nose. "We’re finished, yes, but I want to treat them to dinner at Holy Court."
"Do you have enough money?" Before Jiang Li could even respond, Shen Yanzhi answered his own question. "How about I transfer you another million? After dinner, if you don’t have other plans, you can get massages or go sing some karaoke."
The next second, her phone chimed with a notification: an Alipay transfer for 1,000,000 yuan.
Jiang Li had a strong suspicion that Shen Yanzhi was trying to give back the rent money she’d paid him, just in a different way.
It wasn’t just Jiang Li who was stunned; her three friends were all staring at her with undisguised envy.
With a husband like that, a wife could ask for nothing more.
Knowing people were probably waiting for Jiang Li, Shen Yanzhi didn’t say much more. "Call me when you’re finished. I’ll come pick you up."
Jiang Li nodded. "Okay."
Zhou Jiawen clicked her tongue in amazement. "I never imagined Shen Yanzhi was like this in private."
Jiang Li slipped her phone back into her purse. "What did you think he was like, then?"
Zhou Jiawen thought for a moment, searching for the right words. "Stern and serious. A real stickler for the rules."
She probably hadn’t spent much time with Shen Yanzhi; her impression of him was still frozen in time from her wedding to Shen Yuchu.
So when she suddenly heard that Shen Yanzhi had gotten married—and in a flash marriage, no less—she had offered a few seconds of silent mourning for this sister-in-law she had yet to meet.
But as it turned out, she had been getting worked up over nothing.
Jiang Li tried to salvage a bit of Shen Yanzhi’s image. "He’s actually pretty easy to get along with. He’s just a little slow to warm up to people."
If Zhao Xia and Yang Mei hadn’t been there, Zhou Jiawen would have been tempted to dig deeper into the couple’s history.
She had only found out from Shen Yuchu the other day, when Jiang Li and Shen Yanzhi came over for dinner, that Jiang Li was Shen Yanzhi’s unforgettable first love.
She had been absolutely floored. He had the face of a man who would be an expert at dating, but in reality, he was a hopeless romantic.
That contrast was seriously intoxicating.
But Shen Yuchu had warned her again and again not to let Jiang Li know. Otherwise, she would have spilled the beans long ago.
While Zhou Jiawen was still silently shipping the couple in her head, Zhao Xia had already given a thumbs-up. "Your husband is a real keeper."
Jiang Li smiled faintly. "I think so too. I definitely didn’t marry the wrong man."
Eager for her ’ship’ to sail faster, Zhou Jiawen immediately started singing Shen Yanzhi’s praises. "Oh, definitely! My brother-in-law has always been a true gentleman. He’s never even dated anyone before. You’re his first love, you know!"
Yang Mei’s face lit up in a grin. "In that case, Xiao Jiang, you’ve really hit the jackpot."
Jiang Li scratched her head, agreeing, "I guess so." She then grabbed her coat from the side. "Come on, let’s go eat."
It was nearly six o’clock by the time they arrived at Holy Court. Even with a price tag of 2,888 yuan per person, the place was booming with business. The main dining hall was practically full.
Jiang Li walked up to the reception desk. "Hi, a table for four. Do you have any private rooms available?"
The receptionist smiled politely. "We do, but there’s an additional charge of 1,000 yuan for a private room."
Jiang Li nodded, pulling out her phone and opening her payment QR code. "Four of us, then."
"Hello, your total is 12,552 yuan. You can scan the code here."
Once the payment was made, a staff member immediately led them to their private room.
Once they were in the room, Zhou Jiawen couldn’t help but exclaim, "I’ve got to say, this place does amazing business."
Yang Mei nodded in agreement. "Tell me about it."
Zhao Xia laughed. "Well, what can you do? Holy Court is the only place in the entire Capital City that specializes in seafood."
Unlike coastal cities, the Capital City isn’t exactly overflowing with seafood.
So if you’re craving seafood, Holy Court is pretty much your only option.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—
Just as she said that, a knock came from outside the room.
The four women paused, and Jiang Li was the first to react. "Come in," she said.
A chef and a server were standing outside the door. The server was pushing a cart laden with an array of fresh ingredients.
The chef nodded at them. "Good evening, ladies. I’ll be your chef for today. Please let me know what dishes you’d like, and I’ll prepare them for you right here."
