Chapter 52: Chapter 29: Watching a Movie, Shen Yanzhi Waits Late at Night (2)

Xie Wan took the initiative to greet them, "Miss Jiang, Miss Zhong."

Zhong Mufeng blinked. "And this is...?"

"Xie Wan," Jiang Li said, then leaned in to whisper to Zhong Mufeng, "The housekeeper."

Zhong Mufeng gave a thumbs-up. "So this is the simple, unpretentious life of the rich—complete with a personal housekeeper."

Jiang Li suggested tentatively, "How about I hire one for you, too? That way you can come home to a hot meal after work."

Zhong Mufeng nodded, satisfied. "You know, I wouldn’t say no to that."

Since she used to live a bit far away, her routine was grabbing a couple of steamed buns and a cup of soy milk for breakfast. After work, she’d almost always order takeout, make instant ramen, or just boil some plain noodles.

Cooking for one was just a hassle; she’d always accidentally make too much. As a result, her fridge was mostly stocked with noodles and water.

Jiang Li snapped her fingers. "Alright. I’ll ask her later and see if she knows anyone suitable."

Xie Wan had stayed for this purpose, and used the remote to lower the projector screen. "Miss Jiang, this runs on a separate app. You’ll probably need a membership to watch anything."

Jiang Li replied imperiously, "Get the annual plan!"

An annual membership, just like that. When you’re rich, you can be capricious.

Xie Wan nodded, brought up the membership interface, and a QR code instantly appeared on the screen. Jiang Li scanned it with her phone.

But she froze for a second when it was time to pay. ’What kind of membership costs 8,888 a year?’

Xie Wan explained, "Besides watching movies and TV shows, this system also has karaoke, complete with built-in surround sound and 4D effects."

She then pointed. "The 4D glasses are in the side pocket of the theater sofa."

Jiang Li glanced up at Xie Wan, then paid with her fingerprint and said, "Go and prepare some fruit and drinks for us."

Xie Wan nodded. "Right away."

After Xie Wan left the media room, Jiang Li took the remote, plopped down on one of the theater sofas, and patted the spot next to her for Zhong Mufeng.

Zhong Mufeng shook her head with an amused smile, but went over anyway.

Jiang Li pulled up the latest horror movie. "It’ll probably take her a while to get everything ready. Let’s start without them!"

Zhong Mufeng raised an eyebrow. "Fine by me. Just don’t be the one who gets scared."

Jiang Li turned off the lights and, guided by the glow from the screen, returned to her seat. "I have to admit, watching on a screen this big is pretty awesome."

Zhong Mufeng agreed. "There’s a reason so many people are obsessed with big screens."

Remembering what Xie Wan had said, Jiang Li felt around in the side pocket and actually found the glasses. She dangled them in front of Zhong Mufeng. "Wanna go 4D?"

Zhong Mufeng gulped. "Maybe we shouldn’t push our luck."

’Watching a horror movie in 4D... People wouldn’t even believe it if I told them.’

Jiang Li put the glasses down, a little disappointed. "Fine."

’She actually really wanted to try it, but since Zhong Mufeng wasn’t willing, it wouldn’t be much fun to do it alone.’

Afraid a sudden phone call would make them jump, she silenced her phone, shot a quick message to Shen Yanzhi, and then reminded Zhong Mufeng, "Hon, silence your phone."

Zhong Mufeng made an "OK" sign with her hand. "OK!"

The movie was intense right from the start, making Jiang Li’s scalp prickle with suspense, but she steeled herself and kept watching.

But just as a ghost appeared on screen, the door to the media room swung open, startling them both so badly they nearly screamed out loud.

Jiang Li hit pause as Xie Wan switched on the lights.

Xie Wan was pushing a small cart laden with two fruit platters, two boba teas, an assortment of snacks, and two colas.

"Since it’s getting cold out, I had them make hot milk tea," she explained.

Xie Wan had started the preparations the moment Jiang Li mentioned watching a movie, which was why everything was ready so quickly.

Jiang Li nodded in satisfaction. "Excellent. Very thoughtful!"

She pushed the cart over to Jiang Li. "Well then, Miss Jiang, Miss Zhong, please enjoy the movie. I’ll take my leave now."

She paused for a moment before adding, "If you need anything at all, just send me a message. I’ll be on standby."

Once Xie Wan had left, Zhong Mufeng couldn’t help but remark, "Your housekeeper is really something else."

Jiang Li nodded in agreement. ’Well, she earns a six-figure monthly salary. She’d better be worth it.’

And so, the two of them snacked on fruit and sipped their boba and cola as they watched the entire movie.

By the end of the two-and-a-half-hour film, Zhong Mufeng was yawning nonstop.

It wasn’t that the movie wasn’t scary, but her sleepiness was even more overpowering.

The moment the credits rolled, Zhong Mufeng declared, "Nope, that’s it for me. I have to get to sleep, I’m exhausted."

Jiang Li turned on the lights and asked, "Should I go get you some pajamas, then?"

Zhong Mufeng nodded, covering her mouth as she let out another yawn. "I’ll just go hop in the shower now. You can bring them to me in a bit."
