Chapter 47: Chapter 27: Brother Misunderstanding, Sister Nail Art (3)

Shen Yanzhi finally relaxed, his voice sounding more cheerful. "Alright, you carry on. I’m going to drive back now."

"Okay, drive safe. Text me when you get there."

The moment Jiang Li hung up, Zhong Mufeng teased, "Drive safe. Text me when you get there."

Jiang Li couldn’t help but blush. "You’re so annoying."

She hadn’t thought anything of it when she said it, but hearing Zhong Mufeng repeat her words made her feel strangely embarrassed.

"I thought for sure your Shen was calling to check up on you, but it turns out he was just asking if that person was really you."

Jiang Li shot Zhong Mufeng an annoyed glare. "What do you mean, ’check up on me’? You make it sound like I’m on a date with some other guy."

Zhong Mufeng wiggled her eyebrows at Jiang Li. "Can’t be helped, you’re newlyweds, after all. Besides, with a wife as beautiful as you, of course your Shen is going to be worried."

As the two were bantering, the nail technician doing Jiang Li’s manicure suddenly spoke up. "Ma’am, may I ask if your husband has any spare office space available?"

Jiang Li glanced at the nail technician, a little surprised. "Is doing nails that profitable these days? You’ve already saved up enough to open a shop in Yunfeng Building?"

The nail technician sighed. "I wish. I’m asking for my cousin."

’If I could, I’d love to open my own shop.’

’After all, a nail tech who doesn’t want to open her own salon isn’t a good nail tech.’

While filing a nail, she explained, "She wants to open a somewhat upscale nail salon downtown, but she just can’t find a suitable location."

Jiang Li nodded in understanding. "I’d have to ask my husband. He’d know the specifics."

’It’s strange. I can’t seem to bring myself to call him ’husband’ to his face.’

’But when Shen Yanzhi isn’t around, the word comes out so easily.’

Sensing an opportunity, the nail technician pressed, "So, could I get your contact information after we’re finished?"

Jiang Li said playfully, "That depends on how good your work is."

The nail technician released Jiang Li’s hand and patted her own chest confidently. "Sister Jiang, you can rest assured, my skills are top-notch!"

To prove her skills, the technician, who had originally planned to use decals, insisted on hand-painting the design instead.

The style Jiang Li had chosen was a bit complex, involving an ombré effect, French tips, and gold foil.

It took nearly five hours from start to finish, but the technician perfectly replicated the design from the photo. Jiang Li couldn’t stop admiring the result.

The nail technician rubbed her neck, gazing with satisfaction at the masterpiece she had created. "Hey, would you mind if I took a photo for my portfolio?"

Jiang Li placed her hand on the rest. "Go for it."

The technician took photos from several angles, then looked at Jiang Li with anticipation. "So... your contact info?"

Jiang Li picked up her phone from the side, unlocked it, opened WeChat, and held out her QR code.

After they added each other as friends and she’d paid, Jiang Li gathered her things and went to wake up Zhong Mufeng, who had fallen asleep on a sofa in the waiting area.

Zhong Mufeng, jolted awake, was still in a daze, the look on her face screaming, ’Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?’

Due to the nature of her job, Zhong Mufeng couldn’t get any elaborate nail designs. She had just opted for a sheer, light pink polish that was barely noticeable unless you looked closely.

As a result, by the time Zhong Mufeng’s simple manicure was finished, Jiang Li was still in the middle of getting the base structure of her nails done.

Zhong Mufeng yawned, glancing at the clock on the wall. It was almost eight. She couldn’t help but curse. "So what am I supposed to eat for dinner tonight?"

Jiang Li giggled. "Why don’t you just come home with me? You can go straight to work from my place tomorrow."

"I didn’t bring any of my stuff, and you want me to go to your place?" A shiver ran down her spine as she considered a certain possibility. "If I really went, your Shen would probably skin me alive with his glares."

Jiang Li sighed, exasperated. "You’re being so dramatic."

In her experience, while Shen Yanzhi might have a somewhat standoffish air, he was actually very good-natured.

She, on the other hand, was the one with the fiery temper deep down.

She had just hidden it well in front of Zhao Sinian, so much so that he once thought she was a prim and proper, well-bred lady.

She reached out and linked her arm through Zhong Mufeng’s. "You have to drive me home anyway, so you might as well just stay the night. We have everything you could need at the house, and a lot of it is brand new."

Zhong Mufeng didn’t dare agree so readily. "Shouldn’t you ask your Shen first?"

’I’m genuinely terrified of being silently taken out by Shen Yanzhi!’
