Chapter 42: Chapter 26: Dream Maker Co., Ltd.

"Everyone’s seen the bill, right? If there are no objections, just transfer me the money, and I’ll settle up."

When the phone had made its way around the table and back into his hands, the man raised his voice and said authoritatively.

Jiang Li propped her chin on her hand and said casually, "It’s fine. There’s no rush. Someone still isn’t back yet."

Hearing this, the man immediately frowned and shot back, "Don’t tell me you’re trying to get out of paying?"

Jiang Li looked as if she’d just heard a joke. "Are we not allowed to state the facts these days? Do you have to make up baseless accusations?"

The original plan, discussed in the group chat, was to eat at a streetside food stall. For the whole group, the total would have maxed out at a few tens of thousands.

But because Jiang Li was coming, the food stall was upgraded to the most luxurious restaurant with the highest-end service, which meant some classmates couldn’t even make it.

After all, not everyone could afford to spend 100,000 per person.

Zheng Qi played the peacemaker. "Jiang has a point. Guo Yao isn’t back yet, so we can collect the money when she returns."

"We’re all respectable people here. We agreed to split the bill, so it’s not like anyone is going to back out and refuse to pay."

The man pursed his lips but didn’t press the issue, seemingly accepting what Zheng Qi said. He went back to chatting with the person beside him.

Jiang Li didn’t stay idle. Tapping the tabletop to get Liu Qian’s attention, she asked, "Liu, are you currently working?"

Liu Qian froze for a second. Realizing the question was for her, she shook her head, her face flushing with embarrassment. "No," she said quietly.

"I have an opening for an assistant. The monthly salary is in the six figures, with a full benefits package, performance bonuses, commission, and a year-end bonus. Are you..."

Before Jiang Li could even finish, Liu Qian’s eyes lit up. "I’ll take it! I can start today!"

A six-figure salary. She never would have dared to even dream of something like that before.

Plus, it came with a full benefits package. You’d have to have a screw loose to turn down an offer this good.

Jiang Li nodded. "Alright. You can start tomorrow."

To make sure they were both protected, Jiang Li added, "We’ll sign a contract in a bit."

A flicker of emotion crossed Liu Qian’s eyes. "Okay, no problem."

’I can’t believe I found such a great job just by coming to a class reunion. It looks like coming here was the right decision after all.’

’No wonder people say that class reunions are not just for showing off, but also for networking.’

Zheng Qi asked, a hint of envy in her voice, "Jiang, what about me? Could I be your assistant?"

It wasn’t Liu Qian’s six-figure monthly salary she envied, but the chance to become Jiang Li’s assistant.

’How come I never get such a great opportunity?’

Jiang Li was a bit exasperated. "Aren’t you busy with your livestreams for farmers?"

’If Zheng Qi weren’t already helping farmers, I really would have wanted her as my assistant.’

Seeing Zheng Qi pout unhappily, Jiang Li smiled. "Whenever you decide to stop working with the farmers, if you still want to be an assistant, you can come to me anytime."

Zheng Qi, who had been sulking just a moment ago, immediately beamed. "Then it’s a deal!"

’To put it nicely, I’m a farming-advocate streamer. To put it bluntly, I’m just an influencer.’

’Not only is the income unstable, but I’m also worked to the bone every single day.’

Jiang Li nodded. "You have my word."

The man nearby, who had been eavesdropping, quickly volunteered himself. "Boss Jiang, how about me?"

Jiang Li asked doubtfully, "You don’t have a job either?"

The man chuckled. "I do, but if you’re willing to take me on as an assistant, I’d quit in a heartbeat."

’There’s no shame in working for a classmate. The real shame is not having money to go home for the holidays.’

’Besides, with my crappy job, I only make a few thousand a month. After rent, utilities, and living expenses, there’s basically nothing left.’

’I had to take out online loans from different platforms just to afford this dinner, all in the hopes of landing a better job.’

Jiang Li seemed to be accepting all offers at this point. She nodded. "That’s possible, but being my assistant is pretty demanding."

The man waved his hand dismissively. "That’s nothing. What job isn’t hard work?"

For a six-figure salary, he’d willingly work 24 hours a day.

Not to mention the performance and year-end bonuses.

Seeing that Jiang Li seemed to be hiring anyone who asked, several other people sitting nearby also threw their hats in the ring, all wanting a shot at the high-paying job.

After hiring six assistants in a row, Jiang Li simply created a group chat and asked each of them to post their current location and when they could start.

’Having been treated like a workhorse in the past, she naturally wanted to give her own employees the best possible benefits.’

Just as she finished sending the message in the group chat, Guo Yao returned, her eyes red and swollen. She looked utterly pitiful.

Jiang Li sighed silently. ’Compared to Guo Yao, I guess I don’t love Shen Yanzhi that much after all.’
