Chapter 37: Chapter 24: Buying a Restaurant, Finding an Assistant, Part 2
Zhou Jianguo didn’t even remember how he’d managed to write his own name. He only snapped out of it when Jiang Li asked how to make the payment. "Wait, you’re actually paying?"
He had only quoted a rock-bottom price because he was almost certain Jiang Li couldn’t afford it.
The restaurant might only be making a net profit of two or three hundred a day, but that was as good as ten million in ten days, or a hundred million in a hundred.
Jiang Li blinked innocently. "I was very clear about my intentions from the very beginning. You all were the ones who didn’t believe I could actually afford it."
She blinked again. "Mr. Zhou, the name is signed and the fingerprint is stamped. It’s too late for regrets. Now, just give me your bank account details, and I’ll transfer the money."
She tilted her head, her expression breezy. "Of course, you could also breach the contract. If you do, please pay double the penalty."
Zhou Jianguo’s face grew darker and darker. He couldn’t believe he’d gotten himself into such a mess.
’Why did my stupid hands have to add a penalty clause to the contract?’
Not wanting to pay the penalty, he reluctantly gave Jiang Li his bank account information.
Jiang Li logged into Alipay and initiated a transfer to the bank account Zhou Jianguo provided.
She entered the numbers, counting as she went.
She was terrified of adding or omitting a digit, so the transfer process alone took her nearly four minutes.
Once the transfer was complete, Jiang Li locked her phone screen. "It’s sent. You should check on your end."
Zhou Jianguo hurriedly logged into his banking app. After seeing the amount of the latest transfer, he was filled with nothing but regret.
But regret was regret. He swallowed his pain and said, "From now on, you’re the owner of this restaurant."
Jiang Li asked curiously, "What are your plans now, Mr. Zhou?"
Zhou Jianguo sighed. "First, I’ll travel the world."
Now that the restaurant was gone, it was time to finally realize his own dream.
Jiang Li was a bit envious. She also wanted to do something that impulsive, but traveling the world was a little unrealistic for her right now.
Thinking about the work needed to get the restaurant in order, she said with a beaming smile, "Alright. In that case, please let everyone know that the restaurant has a new owner."
Zhou Jianguo made an "OK" gesture. "No problem."
He held it in for a long time but finally couldn’t resist asking, "Are you sure you’re not the young lady of some wealthy family?"
"I’m really not."
Meeting Zhou Jianguo’s somewhat disappointed gaze, she added, "But if you insist, you can call me the eldest young miss of the Jiang Family."
After all, she was the only daughter in her family, so it wasn’t exactly wrong to call her the eldest young miss.
As Zhou Jianguo stared at her, speechless, Jiang Li grinned. "Okay, I’ll leave you to handle the rest, Mr. Zhou. I have to get back to my meal, so I’ll be going now."
When Jiang Li returned to the private room, the gathering was already about halfway through. The man who’d been trying to raise money for his bride price was desperately pleading with their classmates for cash.
Seeing Jiang Li return, he immediately rushed over. "Jiang, would you like to invest a little, too?"
Jiang Li paused, then waved her hand. "No, thanks. I’m not a fan of investing."
Guo Yao immediately chimed in, "Not a fan of investing, or just no money *to* invest?"
Jiang Li couldn’t help but click her tongue. ’Guo Yao really has to stick her nose in everything, doesn’t she? Always desperate for attention.’
Zhong Mufeng rolled her eyes and retorted, "You’re from a newly rich family, you’ve got so much money. Why don’t you invest yourself?"
Guo Yao looked awkward. She had originally planned to stay out of it, but now she was cornered. She had to bite the bullet and commit—she couldn’t stand to be publicly humiliated.
She shot a hateful glance at Jiang Li. "Fine, I’ll invest 100,000."
Jiang Li fought the urge to roll her eyes. ’More money than sense, as expected.’
’It’s such an obvious scam, yet someone actually fell for it.’
’Then again, that’s just how it is. The moment someone mentions a project that can make money, a crowd will swarm in, sniffing for their slice of the pie.’
’But there’s no such thing as a free lunch, and pies don’t just fall from the sky.’
’Believing in it will only lead to a bigger loss.’
Guo Yao was furious. "Jiang Li, what’s that supposed to mean? How am I someone with more money than sense?"
Jiang Li waved her hand dismissively. "It doesn’t mean anything. Just a random thought."
With that, she sat back down in her seat. The bowl in front of her was already piled high like a mountain with all kinds of meat.
As soon as she sat down, Zhong Mufeng whispered, "Did something happen to you just now?"
Jiang Li turned her head and looked at Zhong Mufeng quizzically. Zhong Mufeng pressed on, "Didn’t you say you were going to the restroom? I was looking all over for you but couldn’t find you."
Jiang Li explained, "Something came up."
Zhong Mufeng pouted. "You didn’t answer my calls or reply to my WeChat messages. I almost thought you’d left."
Jiang Li reached out and pinched Zhong Mufeng’s cheek. "I was busy with important business, so it wasn’t a good time to be on my phone. Don’t worry, it won’t happen again."
