Chapter 21: Chapter 15: What Does It Feel Like to Marry Your College Crush?

Early in the morning, Jiang Li was woken up by the ringing of her phone.

She groggily answered the call, only to be met with Zhong Mufeng’s furious voice. "Jiang Li! Do I, your best friend, even exist to you anymore?!"

Jiang Li yawned and rolled over. "Hm? What’s wrong?"

Zhong Mufeng accused, "How dare you ask me what’s wrong? You quit your job—such a huge deal—and didn’t tell me! You’ve been married for days and haven’t even tried to contact me!"

Jiang Li chuckled placatingly. "I just didn’t want to ruin your mood."

Before Zhong Mufeng could continue her tirade, Jiang Li asked, "Wanna go shopping?"

Zhong Mufeng huffed. "I’ll give you one hour. Meet you at the old spot."

Jiang Li finally breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to get out of bed, she found an arm draped across her waist.

R-rated images from the previous night involuntarily flashed through her mind, and her face instantly turned red. She lifted Shen Yanzhi’s hand, threw back the covers, and scrambled out of bed.

Shen Yanzhi, who had appeared to be fast asleep with his eyes tightly shut, suddenly opened them. The corners of his mouth curved up slightly, a sharp glint flashed in his eyes, and he showed no signs of a hangover whatsoever.

When Jiang Li came out after washing up and getting dressed, she saw Shen Yanzhi sitting shirtless on the bed, putting on his clothes. She hastily turned her face away. "I’m going shopping with Qingbao. I’ll go straight back to the villa afterward."

"I’ll drive you," Shen Yanzhi said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Jiang Li raised her eyebrows in surprise. "Won’t that get in your way?"

"It won’t."

As long as it was for Jiang Li, it would never be an inconvenience.

Besides, he had an office space now. He just needed to transfer his overseas company over; there wasn’t much to be busy with.

After a few minutes, Shen Yanzhi emerged from the bathroom, impeccably dressed and showing none of last night’s impatience.

Jiang Bowen and Jing Shiyun were both out, so no one was home, but breakfast had been left for them.

Century egg and lean pork congee, and a three-shred salad.

The two of them wolfed down their breakfast and then drove to Millennium Shopping Plaza.

Perhaps because they had been up so late last night, Jiang Li fell asleep not long after getting into the passenger seat.

She only woke up when they were almost there, a bit of drool still at the corner of her mouth.

Jiang Li awkwardly wiped it away with a tissue. Shen Yanzhi, pretending not to notice, asked, "Do you want me to pick you up later?"

Jiang Li waved her hand. "We have no idea when we’ll be done. You don’t need to make a special trip."

Shen Yanzhi’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. "If I remember correctly, Zhong Mufeng was our classmate in college, wasn’t she?"

"Yes."

Shen Yanzhi cleared his throat. "Since she was our classmate, is your good friend, and even helped with our wedding, we should treat her to a proper meal."

Jiang Li pulled down the vanity mirror and took a lipstick out of her bag. "I was already planning on treating her to a meal later," she said as she touched up her makeup.

She would treat Zhong Mufeng to the luxurious seafood buffet she’d always wanted.

In the past, all her money had gone to subsidizing that ’Phoenix Man’ Zhao Sinian, leaving her with very little. The meals she treated Zhong Mufeng to were always at hole-in-the-wall restaurants or cheap buffets that cost a few dozen yuan.

Now that she had money in her pocket, she definitely couldn’t let Zhong Mufeng down.

Seeing that Jiang Li didn’t seem to get his meaning, Shen Yanzhi pressed his lips together. "I mean, the two of us should treat her together."

Jiang Li turned to stare at Shen Yanzhi in astonishment, swallowing hard. She half-suspected he’d been possessed.

Although she really wanted to agree, today was supposed to be a bestie date. She had to ask for Zhong Mufeng’s opinion. "I’ll ask Qingbao first."

With that, she called Zhong Mufeng. "Hey, Qingbao, Shen Yanzhi wants to treat you to dinner later. Is it okay if he joins us?"

Zhong Mufeng’s voice was full of excitement. "Yes! Of course, you can!"

Why would she refuse a chance to observe the unattainable campus idol from back in the day up close?

She had seen him at the wedding, of course, but the two of them had slipped away right after the ceremony without even staying for the meal, leaving her with no one to get the gossip from.

And now, since Jiang Li wasn’t taking the initiative, she would.

Hearing that, Jiang Li breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay, just wait a little longer, then. We’re almost there."

She hung up and told Shen Yanzhi the good news. "Qingbao agreed."

Seeing Shen Yanzhi’s deadpan face, which looked like someone owed him a few billion, Jiang Li offered a suggestion. "But can you try to smile a little later?"

Shen Yanzhi twitched the corner of his mouth. "I’ll try."

He had gotten used to wearing a mask abroad; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to command respect.

He parked the car in the mall’s garage, and they went up to the first floor to find Zhong Mufeng.

Every time they went shopping, their first stop was always for milk tea, so it was no effort at all for them to find Zhong Mufeng in the bubble tea shop.

In the past, Shen Yanzhi had been the aloof and unattainable campus idol.

But things were different now. Now, Shen Yanzhi was her bestie’s husband.

They say a best friend is practically a second mother-in-law, and right now, Zhong Mufeng found fault with everything she saw in Shen Yanzhi.

She pushed the milk tea she had ordered earlier toward him. "I didn’t know what flavor you like, so I just ordered one randomly."

Shen Yanzhi was stunned for a second, then smiled and said, "Thank you."

Zhong Mufeng raised her eyebrows in surprise, then, with impeccable service, picked up a straw, tore off the wrapper, and jabbed it forcefully into another milk tea. "Here, your favorite—mint milk green tea."

Jiang Li made a heart shape with her hands. "Love you."

She took the milk tea from Zhong Mufeng, took a long slurp, and let out a sigh of satisfaction.

’This is so satisfying!’

Zhong Mufeng linked arms with Jiang Li and, with a suggestive wiggle of her eyebrows, whispered, "So? Have you and Shen Yanzhi, you know... done it?"

Jiang Li’s face flushed bright red. "You’re so annoying!"

Zhong Mufeng raised an eyebrow. "Looks like it’s a yes!"

A wicked grin spread across her face. She took a sip of her milk tea and asked curiously, "Is it like what everyone used to guess back in the day?"

Jiang Li poked Zhong Mufeng’s arm in annoyance. "What, am I supposed to go measure it?"

Zhong Mufeng froze. That question was indeed a bit out of line.

She clicked her tongue twice. "A woman nourished by love, I see. Your whole vibe is different now."

Jiang Li couldn’t help but complain, "My back is about to break."

"Ohoho, so our aloof campus idol’s skills are not to be underestimated, huh? It’s only been a few days, and your back is already about to break."

She nudged Jiang Li’s arm, blinking her eyes. "Be honest. Is it like how they describe it in novels?"

Jiang Li’s face reddened again. "That’s too much of an exaggeration."

’But it’s not that far off,’ she thought.

’But could she really say that out loud?’

Zhong Mufeng glanced back at Shen Yanzhi, who was walking behind them, and sized him up. "Judging by Shen Yanzhi’s looks, you must have been very blissfully satisfied these past two days. He looks like he’d be really good at ’doing it’."

Jiang Li stomped her foot. "Jeez! Are you ever going to stop?!"

Zhong Mufeng held up her hands in surrender. "Okay, okay! I’ll stop, I’ll stop."

"So, interview time: how does it feel to marry the person you had a crush on in college?"
