Chapter 49: Chapter 49 Terrifying Pressure
The single word carried overwhelming authority.
"Stop!"
Before anyone inside the chamber could react, the heavy wooden doors were pushed open with a loud bang.
Everyone instinctively turned toward the entrance.
Lie Lang stood there with an expression as cold as ice. His broad shoulders almost filled the doorway, and his golden eyes slowly swept across the room. The moment he stepped inside, he immediately noticed something was wrong.
The air still carried the remains of an overwhelming aura that did not belong to any beast he had ever encountered. It lingered like an invisible tide, making even the spiritual energy in the room restless. Cracks spread across the stone floor beneath the elders’ feet, while several wooden pillars had split from the pressure that had erupted only moments earlier.
His gaze slowly moved across the room.
Lan Shu and Hei Yue were both kneeling on one knee, their faces pale as they struggled to steady their breathing. Several beast guards outside the chamber had also collapsed onto the ground, their bodies trembling uncontrollably.
Even Ruo Shuo, who had always carried herself with elegance, was kneeling with one hand pressed against the floor. Her breathing was uneven, and the fear lingering in her eyes had yet to disappear.
Finally, his eyes stopped on the five elders.
Although they still stood proudly with their backs straight, faint traces of blood stained the corners of their mouths. Their sleeves trembled ever so slightly, revealing that they had also suffered injuries.
Lie Lang’s brows slowly knitted together. The five elders... Were injured?
Only then did his gaze drift toward Xue Yao. She was still kneeling where she had fallen. One hand was wrapped tightly around Honghong while the other pressed against her forehead.
Her face had turned frighteningly pale, her breathing was uneven, and cold sweat soaked her clothes. She looked exhausted, as though she had barely escaped with her life.
His expression darkened almost instantly. "What happened?"
No one answered immediately. The leading elder was the first to step forward. He cupped his fists respectfully before saying, "Alpha, we were only carrying out the clan’s inspection."
Lie Lang looked at him without speaking.
The elder continued calmly, "The breeder refused to cooperate with the physical examination. In order to confirm whether the mating ritual had truly been completed, we changed to a soul inspection."
"You searched her memories?" Lie Lang asked, his voice carrying no emotion. "How dare you?!" He growled.
"It was necessary. The continuation of the White Moon Wolf Clan cannot be treated lightly."
"You know it could kill her and you dared to use it on her?!" Lie Lang felt his claws itching to come out.
"It is already done, Alpha. At least we learned something important about this human." The elder with rune on his forehead said.
"What do you mean?" Lie Lang’s gaze narrowed.
The leading elder took a slow breath, folding one of his hands behind his back. Even now, recalling what had happened moments ago made the blood inside his body churn violently.
He looked at Lie Lang before speaking in a calm voice. "Alpha, after the breeder refused the physical inspection, we changed to a soul inspection. At first, everything went as expected. Our spiritual sense entered her consciousness without any resistance, and we believed the inspection would be over in a few breaths. But before we could reach the memories from last night, something suddenly awakened."
His brows slowly furrowed as though even he found it difficult to describe.
"The feeling was... strange. It did not feel like we had entered a human’s consciousness. It was as though we had stepped into another world entirely. The pressure around us changed in an instant, and before any of us could react, there was a sudden backlash.
We attempted to subdue it together, but the moment we increased our spiritual sense, five ancient runes appeared. None of us recognized those symbols, yet every one of them carried an aura more ancient and powerful than anything I have encountered in my life. It was like five different paths of Dao...I have only read descriptions like this in the oldest records of our clan. If those records are true, only beings who have touched the Great Dao itself could wield such runes."
The elder unconsciously wiped the blood from the corner of his lips before continuing. "The five runes revolved around one another before releasing a pressure so overwhelming that our soul-search collapsed immediately. It was not an attack directed only at us. That pressure spread through the entire residence. Every beast inside the White Moon Wolf Clan instinctively submitted to it, including our own beasts. For a brief moment, it felt as though our bloodlines had encountered a supreme existence standing above all beasts."
Another elder slowly nodded in agreement. "We were thrown out of her consciousness before we even realized what had happened. By the time we regained our senses, our spiritual sea had already suffered injuries. Had that power wished to kill us instead of simply driving us away, I fear the five of us would not be standing here now."
Silence settled over the chamber.
Lie Lang frowned, was the human breeder that powerful? He knew she could cook and cause trouble... then his mind wandered back to what Honghong had said...
Another elder slowly added, "In all our years... we have never encountered such a terrifying pressure."
Lan Shu lowered her head. "It is true, Alpha. My beast completely submitted and could not resist."
Hei Yue nodded in agreement. "I could not even circulate my spiritual energy."
Ruo Shuo bit her lip before speaking in a low voice. "It felt as though my bloodline had encountered its natural ruler, and that is strange as we only bow before the Alpha." A calculative glint flickered through her eyes, as she balled her fist. If she could make Lie Lang see her as a rival for his power, she might be able to get rid of the human.
