Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Grand Alpha?
Xue Yao almost burst out in laughter. "That is very generous of you." She said sarcastically.
Yun Kai’s eyes narrowed slightly. "You don’t want me?"
Xue Yao could already sense his ego on the edge of snapping. In as much it would bring her endless amounts of satisfaction to break that fragile ego of his, she still needed him to get to the others.
She let out a sigh before putting on a pitiful expression. "How would I dare to reject you?" She faked a sob while dramatically placing the back of a hand on her forehead.
"I’m supposed to be someone else’s breeder. If I choose you now, I’ll put you in big trouble. You are young, handsome..." Her eyes traced down his body. "You have a strong, manly, well-chiselled body that I can’t help but want you. I mean, how could someone be this handsome? It almost feels unreal."
’Hidden step; make him spill the tea. The more I know about the big bad wolf and the grumpy white wolf, the better my chances of fulfilling the mission and escaping.’ She thought inwardly.
Yun Kai lowered his head, his chest swelling with pride. ’The human girl likes me, although her looks are average and she is very thin and dirty. That doesn’t matter as long as her feelings are real. That’s all that matters... she can even cook for me every day.’ He thought inwardly, but his mood quickly turned sour by the feeling of distress building inside him.
"You mean the Grand Alpha?" He asked.
Meanwhile, Tian Lan was busy smiling sheepishly in front of him, except that no one could see her except Xue Yao.
"Grand Alpha?" Xue Yao’s heart almost dropped in her chest.
’I’ve heard of Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Omega... What the heck is a Grand Alpha?!’
"Yes, he was the former Alpha of the pack and an uncle to Alpha Lie Lang." He leaned closer to the prison bar. "Anything you must do, don’t wrong him. He is extremely powerful and ruthless... more ruthless than Alpha Lie Lang." He whispered.
’I shouldn’t offend him? I’m afraid that is too late! I refused to be his breeder, he is going to kill me... No, I’m afraid he would find that too merciful. He is going to torture me and torment me!’ She cried inwardly.
Xue Yao unconsciously swallowed. She walked back to the grill and picked one rabbit piece. Now, she needed as much information as she could get to save her neck.
"So what does this grand Alpha like? Is there anything I need to know?" She dangled the meat in front of him.
Yun Kai inhaled sharply. He managed to keep his composure, though his eyes never left the meat. ’Giving out a little information about the Grand Alpha wouldn’t hurt. She is going to be the royal breeder anyway.’ He thought inwardly.
"Grand Alpha always stays in seclusion. He rarely comes out. I don’t really know what he likes, but I do know what he hates." He paused as if silently telling her to brace herself.
"He dislikes noise, he doesn’t like flowers, be it any colour, he hates colour, music, dance, party, seduction. When you are around him, try not to breathe too loudly, walk too fast, walk too slow, smile at him, frown at him, try to please him, touch him, touch his things, wear anything colourful, or bring him food." Yun Kai said, gasping for air.
"I can’t bring him food?" Xue Yao’s eyes widened. She unconsciously brought the meat closer to him to take a bite.
Yun Kai’s eyes unconsciously glistened with unspeakable joy. He tried to control himself so he wouldn’t appear desperate. However, his mouth opened, and he immediately ripped off half the meat.
He held the meat in one hand and took a large bite. The moment the flavour hit his taste buds, he felt like he was levitating.
He let out a deep groan. So this was what he had been missing all his life? A tear rolled down his cheeks. This was really a heavenly grade food, perfect and well cooked.
Xue Yao frowned at his behavior. ’So greedy.’ She thought inwardly before taking a bite of the one in her hands.
"If he likes nothing, how am I supposed to please him?" She frowned.
Yun Kai took another bite, his mouth full like that of a squirrel. He forcefully swallowed as he didn’t want to offend her or keep her waiting.
"If you ask me, that is impossible. The best option for you is Alpha Lie Lang. Although he is cold and difficult, he is not as difficult as the Grand Alpha." He took another bite again, closing his eyes to relish the taste.
Then, from his peripheral vision, he saw expressions that resembled those of an abandoned dog.
His colleagues stared at him with pitiful gazes, their eyes misty as they could only wish to have a bite of the meat.
Yun Kai stared down at the meat in his hand. All that was remaining was the bone and a little amount of meat. ’Sigh. Fine, I’ll save this for them to share.’ He thought inwardly.
"You think so?" Xue Yao asked in a deep thought. ’The mission only said an S-level beast. Lie Lang is an S-Level beast, which means I can choose any of them. But that Lie Lang! What if I can’t control my anger and end up killing him? Well, that is if I am capable enough...’ she shook her head.
’Sadly, I’m not... but wait...if the Grand Alpha is stronger...wouldn’t the reward be even better?... No. Forget it. Coins aren’t worth my life.’ She quickly dismissed the thought.
"Absolutely." Yun Kai exclaimed. He gestured for Xue Yao to come closer. "Every breeder that was assigned to him ended up dying one way or the other. Some committed suicide, either by drowning, strangling themselves, or stabbing themselves. While the others, he personally ended them."
"Are you serious?" Her knees trembled. She couldn’t believe what would have happened to her if she had followed him. Maybe she would have died by now.
"That was why he doesn’t have any heir." Yun Kai began licking his hand.
"What about Alpha Lie Lang?" Xue Yao asked, holding her breath like her life depended on it.
"Well, he is better, although some breeders died because of him. But that was because his bloodline was too strong, and the breeders could not bear him or bear his pups." He said with a shrug.
"Either way, I end up dying, right?" She said, completely heartbroken.
Just then, a cold gust rushed through the prison as if someone had suddenly opened the window to Antarctica.
A chill shot up her spine, and all the hair at the back of her neck stood on end.
Even Yun Kai froze, and the meat on his hand fell to the ground. His expression was that of someone who had seen a ghost.
Xue Yao felt wave after wave of fear, submission, and reverence from the wolf guards nearby. It felt so overwhelming and suffocating.
Then, footsteps echoed down the corridor. With every step came the impeccable feeling of dread.
