The process continued for quite a while, and by the time she finally finished, her arms were trembling from exhaustion.
Xue Yao sat directly on the ground and looked at the countless rabbit corpses scattered across the field. For some reason, her heart suddenly hurt.
"So much meat..." A tear rolled down her cheek. "What a waste."
Tian Lan appeared beside her. [The meat is preserved, as long as they are in the system’s space, they won’t go bad.]
Xue Yao immediately sat upright. "It is?"
[Anything stored inside the space remains fresh.]
Her sadness vanished instantly. "Wonderful."
She looked at the rabbits again. Now they no longer resembled a tragedy, they resembled a food reserve.

"What are those?" Xue Yao asked.
[The source of a beast’s power.] Tian Lan said with irritation, as if she were schooling a two-year-old.
Xue Yao’s eyes immediately brightened. For the next hour, she diligently collected the rock rabbit’s core. They were blue pentagonal shapes, and once she finished, a series of notifications suddenly rang out inside her ears.

"How many rabbits did I just defeat?"
Tian Lan smiled. [Enough that your next mission is going to be very painful.]
The smile on Xue Yao’s face immediately disappeared.

Xue Yao had a grin plastered across her face. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the notifications one more time. The screen was totally covered with her marvellous work.

Suddenly, a sharp scream echoed throughout the green land, shaking every blade of grass to the ground.
"I’M RICH!!!"
Xue Yao threw herself onto the ground and rolled several times before hugging the pile of beast cores.
’Heheheheheheh... this must be the rich man laugh. Hahahaha. Xue Yao, you are so cool. You can be considered one of the richest humans in the beast world...100, 250, 750...1950...wheeee...2550 coins!’ She inwardly slicked her hair back while rubbing her hands.
’Once I use these to upgrade my strength and skills, I will be untouchable. I’ll take my revenge on the wolves, harvest their cores, and eat them...wait, wait... will they even taste good? I mean, they are a beast after all.’ She thought inwardly as she hugged the beast cores.
[Xue Yao!] Tian Lan stomped her feet on the ground with her hands curled beside her.
Xue Yao peeled one of her eyes open. ’There she goes again,’ she shook her head in disappointment. ’I’ve never heard of a system so moody and childish. What now? Don’t tell me she’s going to make me spin the wheel of fortune again?... more like the wheel of doom... that sounds a lot better.’ She thought inwardly.
"What?" Xue Yao asked cautiously.
[I’m hungry.] Tian Lan folded her arms across her chest while looking away from her with her chin raised. Her blue eyes were furious, yet they held a mischievous glint.
Xue Yao frowned. ’Do I look like your mommy? Why the hell will I be bothered if you are hungry or not? Go get whatever you eat and don’t disturb me, at least have a shred of dignity.’ She thought inwardly.
"What do you want to eat?" The question was laced with several doses of sarcasm.
Tian Lan brought her index finger to her lips as if in deep thought. Then she shamelessly pointed at the pile of beast cores. [I want to eat beast cores.]
Xue Yao’s eyes twitched for a second. "My beast cores?"
First of all, she apparently had no idea what the beast cores were used for. However, Tian Lan can not make her do the hard work of harvesting the cores and then come back to eat them.
Tian Lan nodded her head. Her eyes became wide and sparkling like those of an adorable dog... which only made Xue Yao cringe.
"Before I give it to you," Xue Yao picked one of the beast cores, its blue crystal-like shape becoming lighter as the light fell on it. "If you tell me everything it can be used for."
Tian Lan glanced at the pile of cores and finally looked slightly less annoyed.
[Beast cores contain the condensed essence of a beast.]
"In simpler words."
[Power.] Tian Lan sighed... ’fine, I’ll just pretend I’m lecturing her for future purposes.’
Xue Yao immediately sat upright. "Power?"
Tian Lan nodded. [A beast absorbs spiritual energy from the world throughout its life. After death, a portion of that energy condenses into a beast core.]
Xue Yao looked down at the blue crystal in her palm. "And what can I do with it?"
[Many things.] Tian Lan raised one finger. [You can absorb the energy inside to increase your cultivation.]
She raised a second finger. [You can feed them to contracted beasts to accelerate their growth.]
A third finger followed. [You can use them as fuel for formations, treasures, talismans, and certain weapons.]
Then she paused. [Or you can sell them.]
Xue Yao’s eyes immediately lit up. "Money?"
Tian Lan rolled her eyes. [That is the only part you heard.]
Xue Yao ignored her for a second before speaking again. "It is so useful, and you want me to give them to you?"
[Just a few, if my cultivation grows higher, you will surely benefit from it. Besides, I’m stooping so low to eat level 1 beast cores, you should respect me for that.] Tian Lan placed her hands on her waist.
Xue Yao did not buy her words. "How many?"
