Chapter 88: Chapter 84: Killing Tonight
Dragon Heaven Building, underground.
The area underground was deserted. The Spiritualist Followers had either gone home or gone up into the Dragon Heaven Building to preach.
She was the only one sitting here, waiting for good news from Wen. As she saw it, there was almost no chance Wen would fail.
Wen was proficient with the Space Sequence, meaning she could move through space at will. With an ability like that, capturing two ordinary people should have been ridiculously easy.
As long as she was careful, she could have even brought the targets back without anyone being the wiser.
As for Liu Chang also possessing the Space Sequence, the Space High Priest had naturally made thorough preparations to counter him. She simply couldn’t imagine how Wen could possibly fail.
But reality was often so unreasonable.
Just as the Space High Priest was sitting with her legs crossed, lost in idle thought, a spatial fluctuation erupted beside her. Wen materialized at her side, only half her body intact.
The moment she appeared, Wen collapsed to the ground. It was obvious she was on the verge of death, her breaths shallow and ragged.
The wound Su Xing’s sword had dealt her was simply too severe. The great hole in her upper body grew deeper, and the grievous injury from his "Mountain-Shattering" strike continued to take effect. Her flesh and blood seemed to boil and dissipate from within. It was clear she wouldn’t be able to hold on for much longer.
The moment Wen appeared, the Space High Priest froze for a second before rushing to her side. She began forcefully pouring Sequence Energy into Wen’s body from an item she had painstakingly created. It was the second most powerful item she had ever crafted in her entire career, and she couldn’t bear to let Wen be destroyed just like that.
But the Space High Priest found that no matter how much Sequence Energy she infused, she couldn’t stop Wen’s injuries.
Her injuries were far too grave; she should have died instantly. Instead, she had used her last ounce of strength to activate one final spatial transfer and return to the Space High Priest’s side.
"Master..."
Wen seemed to be trying to say something, but the words caught in her throat. She felt herself unable to draw another breath. Her body suddenly went rigid, and then, as if finally sundered by the fissures running through it, she fell apart into chunks of flesh that scattered across the ground. Pale blue blood flowed onto the Space High Priest’s hands.
The Space High Priest narrowed her eyes. She raised her slender fingers, silently watching the pale blue blood drip between them.
Watching Wen—who looked exactly like her—die right before her eyes was a great shock to the Space High Priest. An inexplicable fury surged in her heart. She slowly rose to her feet, looking at the chunks of flesh that were once Wen, a single thought both bewildered and enraged. ’What on earth was Wen trying to say before she died?’
Just as she was pondering this, a sudden BOOM echoed from the surface.
It sounded like a building had collapsed. The tremor shook the underground violently, and the Space High Priest, lost in thought, was caught off guard and stumbled to the ground. Her brow furrowed even deeper, her gaze fixed on the ceiling as if she could see right through it.
...
"Bro, where’d you go?"
"Liu Chang found signs of a fight outside the Sword Hall. He suspects it was the Space High Priest’s handiwork. Does this have anything to do with you?"
Su Yu’s voice suddenly echoed in Su Xing’s mind. It paused for a moment before continuing, "I’m covering for you, hiding the fact that you left. Get back to me if you have a second."
After hearing Su Yu’s message, Su Xing slowly pulled out his phone and sent a text in reply:
"I’m killing."
After sending the message, Su Xing put his phone back in his pocket and looked up at the tempered glass doors before him. Light shone from within, where it seemed some kind of ceremony was being held. He could faintly hear the sounds of preaching.
’So this is it?’
Just as he thought this, Su Xing saw someone who carried Sequence Energy walk past, turn a corner, and disappear from view.
’Looks like this is the place, all right.’
Dragon Heaven Building. Su Xing had heard his younger brother mention this place.
This place had originally been the Priests’ main stronghold. But after the failed assault on the hospital, the Spiritualist Priests were almost completely wiped out.
The building was eventually confiscated by the government. To think that, after all this time, it had once again become a stronghold for the Spiritual Sect. It reminded Su Xing of the old saying: the most dangerous place is the safest. Perhaps the Spiritual Sect thought so, too.
Su Xing didn’t rush inside. First, he went to a nearby 24-hour store and bought a hat that would cover his face and a simple black trench coat.
He then found a public restroom to change, after which he returned to the Dragon Heaven Building. Su Xing walked up, knocked lightly on the door three times, and called out:
"Anybody home?"
The Sequencer who had turned the corner earlier came forward. He gave Su Xing a look, finding his face unfamiliar, and asked, "Are you here to join the sect?"
"It’s a thousand yuan to join."
The man behind the tempered glass glanced at Su Xing. His voice, coming from behind the glass, was a little quiet, but Su Xing heard it clearly.
"I’m not here to join."
"Then...?"
"I’m here to kill."
BOOM!
A white blade flashed over Su Xing’s right hand. Using his fist as a sword, he instantly shattered the tempered glass. The head of the man behind the door was sent flying along with the shards.
The man’s headless body didn’t seem to have registered its death. It remained standing ramrod straight, its hands still in their original positions. But its head, like a smashed watermelon, slammed against the building’s sign, staining the name "Dragon Heaven Building" a bright red.
At the same time, a torrent of blood gushed from its neck.
Su Xing gave the follower’s corpse a light push, sending it toppling to the ground with a muffled THUD.
The sound of the tempered glass shattering was far too loud. It drew the attention of some wandering drunks, a few young couples looking for a thrill, and the early-rising breakfast vendors setting up nearby. All of them turned to stare at Su Xing.
The terrifying destructive power Su Xing had just unleashed startled the few people who happened to witness the scene.
A particularly timid drunk fell right onto the ground, a damp spot spreading in his crotch. He pointed a trembling finger at Su Xing’s back and stammered in terror,
"An Extra... Extraordinary Being!"
For most of them, this was the first time they had ever seen an Extraordinary Being in person. When you’d only heard stories, you imagined them being cool and handsome, not something to be feared.
But seeing an Extraordinary Being actually kill someone right in front of them, the first reaction for most was absolute terror. This was especially true for ordinary people who didn’t know the context; they were even more terrified that Su Xing might turn around and kill them next.
"An Extraordinary Being is killing people! Someone fucking call the police!!!"
At the man’s scream, the crowd descended into total chaos.
Su Xing paid no mind to what was happening behind him. Without a single glance back, he walked alone into the Dragon Heaven Building. His purpose was clear: he was here to kill tonight!
