Chapter 82: Chapter 80: Hot Search

Su Xing had only just left.

Lu Anning walked alone to a corner of the ruined train station and leaned quietly against the debris.

Her eyes were fixed on a black car slowly approaching in the distance. As the car came to a stop, a man in a black formal suit slowly stepped out.

The moment Li Yu got out of the car, he saw the ruins of Cang City South Station, the vast stretches of cracked ground, and the dark red gore splattered everywhere. The entire scene was a chaotic mess, as if it had been ravaged by some kind of monster.

Then, he immediately spotted Lu Anning leaning in a corner of the ruins. Lu Anning was also staring at him. Li Yu simply gave a faint smile before his gaze shifted back to the signs of battle.

The special organization was well aware of the Spiritual Sect’s plan to assassinate Lu Anning, although Li Yu hadn’t yet received any news as to why she was here.

But the moment he saw her, Li Yu pretty much figured it out. She had likely gone out to pick someone up, got targeted by the Spiritual Sect, and the ensuing fight resulted in this mess.

As for why the battle had been so devastating,

Li Yu didn’t even need to guess who had intervened.

’It must be the mysterious expert!’

Li Yu was particularly sensitive to energy. With just a glance, he could feel the dense white energy permeating the area, as well as a green Sequence Energy that was being firmly suppressed.

A smile touched Li Yu’s lips,

as if one of his suspicions had just been confirmed.

As the person in charge of the special organization, he was naturally no fool.

Li Yu knew perfectly well that several people from the Sword Hall were targets of the Spiritual Sect and would inevitably face all sorts of attacks.

Even so, he had chosen not to send reinforcements after Liu Chang’s failure.

The truth was, the special organization had a limited number of Tier 4 Sequencers, and Li Yu couldn’t station two of them in one place. So, he had an idea: he wanted to see if the mysterious expert could serve as a free bodyguard.

Li Yu had Wang Yu compile and analyze the instances of the mysterious expert’s intervention and who had been rescued. The final conclusion was this:

The mysterious expert only saves people from the Sword Hall.

The chart Wang Yu had prepared prominently listed the names Su Yu, Su Xing, and Lu Anning, among others.

As long as a fight took place near the Sword Hall, or involved people from the Sword Hall, the mysterious expert would invariably intervene.

But if a battle occurred away from the Sword Hall, or if none of those specific individuals were involved, the mysterious expert never showed up.

Li Yu felt the special organization had fallen into a mental trap, constantly thinking that since Su Yu was important, they had to be the ones to protect him.

’But who decreed that just because Su Yu is important, the organization has to be the one to protect him?’

’Protection is just about keeping him alive.’

’So isn’t it the same if someone else protects him?’

Besides, judging by the data, the protection provided by the mysterious expert was far superior to that of the organization.

Li Yu felt they could just go with the flow on this. If they had Su Yu stay at the Sword Hall until the Spirit Realm descended, he would continuously benefit from the mysterious expert’s protection.

"What’s more..."

Li Yu said the two words and paused. He glanced at the carnage before him and continued, "As long as a Tier 5 doesn’t show up, the mysterious expert’s strength is more than reliable."

This led Li Yu to ponder a question: who exactly was the mysterious expert?

Li Yu considered it from every angle. He felt Su Xing was the most likely possibility, but based on Liu Chang’s report and his own two encounters with Su Xing, it was highly probable that Su Xing was not an Extraordinary Being.

But...

’If it isn’t Su Xing, then who could it be?’

Li Yu shook his head. The organization had already determined that the mysterious expert held no malice toward them and that there was no need to excessively probe into their identity. Since he couldn’t figure it out, he decided to stop thinking about it.

Rather than dwelling on things he couldn’t understand for the time being, he should first ask Lu Anning what exactly had happened here.

He already had a general idea from the videos circulating online, but he still had to go through the proper procedures. Who knew, there might be new information he had missed.

Lu Anning had been watching Li Yu from the corner the whole time. She saw him get out of the car, glance at her, walk over to the large crater to observe it for a while, then crouch down to collect some of the Corpse High Priest’s fleshy remains. Finally, after standing and thinking for a long time, he started walking toward her.

It was, after all, Lu Anning’s first time experiencing something like this, so she was a little nervous. She gave a couple of soft coughs just as Li Yu walked up to her and said:

"I’m an investigator with Cang City’s special organization. Here are my credentials."

Li Yu directly revealed the name of the special organization. Normally, he would have said he was a police officer or something similar, but with the announcement of the Spiritual Qi resurgence imminent, he felt there was no need.

’Who knows, this girl might even have a chance to join the organization in the future.’

[Special Incidents Task Force]

[Name: Li Yu]

Lu Anning had only glanced at it before Li Yu put the credentials away. He then took out a small notebook, held it toward Lu Anning, and asked:

"Can you tell me what happened here?"

Lu Anning recounted the incident, using both her hands and her words to explain.

Lu Anning’s account was exactly what you would expect from an ordinary person witnessing an Extraordinary Being. Words like "superman" and "leaping several feet into the air" appeared frequently, and her shocked expression didn’t seem feigned in the slightest.

It never occurred to Li Yu to think that Lu Anning might have already become an Extraordinary Being herself.
