Chapter 113: Chapter 106: Encirclement and Suppression
「Ningshui City. Afternoon.」
Golden rays from the radiant sun shone down on an utterly ordinary apartment building in the school district and the pedestrians milling about.
It was the time of day when school let out, so many parents, having already prepared dinner, were heading downstairs to bike or drive to pick up their children. As a result, the crowd below suddenly swelled.
Hidden among these ordinary people, however, were several members of a special organization, wandering about as they waited for their target to appear.
Among them was Liu Ming, fresh from his seclusion.
He was originally assigned a mission at the Sword Hall. However, this operation to capture Catastrophe was so critical that every available Tier 4 Sequencer had been mobilized. And so, as a newly promoted Tier 4, he was here as well.
Liu Ming wore a pair of plain-lens glasses and paced back and forth, occasionally glancing at his phone. He looked just like an ordinary man waiting for someone.
He didn’t normally wear glasses. As a former criminal police officer, his eyesight was perfectly fine. This time, however, he had to alter his appearance to conceal his identity and prevent anyone from recognizing him at first glance.
Standing a short distance from the target building, Liu Ming checked the time, then activated the communicator in his ear and spoke.
"We’re at the designated time."
"But the target still hasn’t come down. Could there be a complication?"
"Be patient. A few minutes’ delay is normal. If Catastrophe hasn’t appeared in another ten minutes, you and the other Sequencers from Ningshui City will go up and take a look. Remember, keep your identities concealed. Do not engage recklessly."
Li Yu replied calmly, hearing the concern transmitted through the earpiece.
Although the situation wasn’t going exactly as planned, the special organization was prepared for contingencies. No matter how Catastrophe might struggle, this time, he had to die!
Time ticked by.
Liu Ming took a deep breath, then signaled to the three Tier 4 Sequencers from Ningshui City. After relaying Li Yu’s plan, the four of them headed into the building together.
A few minutes later,
they arrived on the floor where Catastrophe lived.
To avoid alerting their target,
Liu Ming and the others opted against a violent entry. They exchanged a look, and one of them knocked gently on the door before calling out.
"Local police. We’re here to update resident information."
"Okay, I’ll be right there."
Hearing the voice, the Sequencers immediately exchanged glances, silently debating whether to strike the moment the door opened, but Liu Ming shook his head.
The other three understood and reined in their impulses, listening silently as the SHUFFLE SHUFFLE SHUFFLE of slippers approached. The door was then thrown open.
The Catastrophe High Priest appeared before the four of them.
Ningshui City conducted a resident information check every six months, and since it was about that time again, Catastrophe wasn’t suspicious. He just glanced at them and spoke.
"I don’t recognize you, officers."
"We weren’t assigned to this beat before; we were just recently transferred over. You’re Lin Dufan, right?"
"Ah, yes, that’s me."
Catastrophe wore a friendly expression, showing no trace that he was the High Priest of the Spiritual Sect. He seemed like a completely ordinary man.
One of the Sequencers from Ningshui City produced his police ID and stepped up to Catastrophe’s side. He began to go over the household information with him, point by point. When they got to his wife and child, the Sequencer suddenly asked:
"And your wife and child?"
"She got off work early today, so she went to pick up our child. Why do you ask?"
’No wonder...’
The two words immediately surfaced in Liu Ming’s mind as he listened to Catastrophe.
Just then, a terrifying Tier 5 aura erupted from inside the apartment. The presence was almost tangible, unleashing a palpable shockwave!
It sent the four of them staggering back four or five steps, and they crashed into the neighbor’s door with a loud THUD.
"Fucking hell, can’t you just knock?!"
The neighbor roared in anger. But when he went to his door and looked through the peephole, he instantly felt something was wrong. He didn’t dare open the door, and instead continued to peek at the situation outside.
"I didn’t expect the special organization to come knocking at our door."
The figure of the Angry Vice Bishop slowly emerged from behind Catastrophe. He had come today to discuss future mission plans with Catastrophe, not expecting to run into agents from the special organization.
Catastrophe was a Tier 4 Sequencer, on the same level as Liu Ming and his team. While their disguises had been convincing enough to fool him, he was no idiot.
The Angry Vice Bishop’s sudden move snapped him back to reality. His eyes narrowed, and he said in a low, dangerous voice:
"You’re from the special organization?!"
’Tier 5...’
Liu Ming’s heart leaped into his throat.
The special organization had considered the possibility that a Vice Bishop from the Spiritual Sect might intervene.
But they never expected one to appear right inside Catastrophe’s apartment. For a moment, Liu Ming couldn’t judge if their backup would arrive in time, and his breathing grew heavy.
Li Yu perceived the situation here instantly. The communicator in Liu Ming’s ear was still active, immediately relaying everything to the other members outside.
The appearance of the Angry Vice Bishop didn’t cause Li Yu to lose his composure. While he hadn’t expected a Vice Bishop to show up this early, he had pieced together from various intel that one might intervene. Because of this, he had long been prepared.
