Chapter 38: 38. The Unbloodied Valley ( III )

She dashed towards them, spear poised to attack.

But then, millimetres away from her targets.

Boom!!

They exploded like suicide bombers.

Or at least it looked as such.

Raika’s lightning force field shielded her and Alaric, the shock pushing them several metres across the stony ground.

Mid-crash, several ice spears fell, aimed at Alaric, the force field evaporating them upon contact.

Crash!!

Raika came to a stop, leaving a trail of destruction several metres away from the explosion.

"I have about 100 days worth of mana. I just need to locate them..." She thought of a plan, her senses everywhere.

Trying to locate them.

Still coming up blank, there was nothing, just a massive heat wave underneath.

"Huh!" She looked downwards, her glowing red eyes watching a massive mass of heat moving below ground.

She hadn’t noticed due to all the chaos, but the ground was quaking, growing in intensity by the moment.

"That looks like a Drake," she thought to herself, the creature’s heat silhouette that of a demi-dragon, an Earth Drake.

She wasn’t aware of the tales of the unbloodied valley, this was her first time crossing it after all.

Not to mention, she couldn’t care less about matters of the world unless it concerned the battlefield.

She shifted her gaze, her attention back to the fight at hand.

Ignoring the natural disaster she had stirred awake.

Her priority was killing the Nebula assassins not the lizard with insomnia.

Her senses stretched to the max, yet they came up blank.

"What’s going on..." She was confused.

Relatively, her senses could cover 100 metres, yet she couldn’t find them. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

She had spread them out like a spherical dome with a 100-metre radius, yet couldn’t sense them.

Mages, herself included, needed to be at least fifty metres from their spell to cast them.

Projectiles may travel further, but considering the rapid attacks, she was sure they were close, yet couldn’t sense them.

This was sure to be the effects of artefacts.

" I will have to use the thunderstorm one more time " She made up her mind.

If she couldn’t sense them, then she just needed to rain down lightning on the whole field, hopefully they will be caught up in it.

"I hate the taste of this, but I have no choice." Raika popped out the cork of a fiery red vial, emptying its contents down her throat.

The legendary-grade mana potion, a potion capable of replenishing 300 days of mana with one gulp.

A rarity in the Land of Chroma, including many other less potent mana potions.

Mana potions were only available in high-risk dungeons.

And as for the taste, well.

Mana isn’t something the tongue was built for.

Her skin reddened, steam rising from it as mana rushed through her veins, pouring into her mana heart.

She breathed out a scorching steam of air, a smile tugging at her lips.

"I might not be able to sense you, but I am sure you are around..." She removed the lightning barrier, allowing Alaric some fresh air, though the air was anything but fresh.

Dust rose, beams of sun barely making their way through it as the Drake neared the surface.

But she paid it no heed.

Alaric scrunched his nose, feeling uncomfortable under all the dust, a blue hue around his figure pushing the dust away.

Raika began to levitate as she prepared the Thunderstorm spell, her crimson eyes glowing a blinding yellow.

The spherical net stretched, straightened, and thickened to form pillars of lightning.

Crackle!! Boom!!

The airborne dust transformed into a rolling inferno as the lightning inadvertently reacted with numerous combustible minerals in the dust, causing a dust explosion.

The Unbloodied Valley, from a bird’s eye view view, looked like the gateway to hell, blazing with the fury of tormenting souls.

The three who hid above the cloud of dust noticed the fiery dust clouds below, their composure lost, pupils dilating in fear, gulping in mortification.

"What a monster?" All three said simultaneously, their throats dry.

The silver-eyed one, trusting his gut, had ordered them to wait above the dust.

Not to mention his two comrades had exhausted their mana, their arms out of commission.

They had the artefacts, they had the element of surprise, yet Raika, with her monstrous stamina, didn’t give them a chance.

Their title as snipers was useless in the face of an unbreakable foe.

Even if the attack could not be tracked, what use was it if it couldn’t meet its intended target?

"Sir, let’s forget the mission..." the dark blue-eyed one said to the silver-eyed one, his expression pained under the mask.

He had almost lost his life, and the only legendary-grade artefact he possessed.

The Substitution Paper Bomb, an artefact from the sixth-tier tower, Tsukuyomi.

An artefact that teleported its user to safety in a life-threatening predicament, leaving a powerful bomb in its place.

"We should leave their demise ro the Drake, Even if she survives, we can try again another time..." the clear blue-eyed one suggested.

The silver-eyed one nodded, heeding their advice.

Raika wasn’t someone they could fight against. Her defense was impregnable and her offense reckless.

They thus left for the edge of the valley.

Within the rolling dust of fire, Raika, who was unaware of their absence, had retracted the spell.

"I didn’t know this would happen. It can still flush them out and save me mana," she thought, standing unbothered in the cloud of fiery dust, exploding without rhythm.

Alaric, his blue aura keeping most of the heat at bay, the lightning force field keeping the rest out.

The shield no longer as airtight.

GRRRAAAOOOWW!!

The Drake, caught in the flames, let out a shrill cry of agony, its innate power instinctively activating.

Wham!

The clouds of burning dust fell in an instant, Raika falling face first onto the ground, Alaric’s head kissing the hard ground with a thud.

"What!!" Raika’s body felt heavy, as if she was under a mountain, and in a way she was
