Chapter 376: Client

For a moment, neither the two of them moved.

"T-that’s a lot..." Mara whispered in a low voice that was barely audible.

Gray, too, couldn’t help but nod at her. He pressed his lips together and stared more at the stack of money in front of them. The stack of money was at least 2 feet tall.

"G-Gray," Mara slowly tapped Gray’s shoulder as if she had to make sure that he was still there with her.

Gray shook his head slowly. He swallowed as he reached out to part the stack of money. He wanted to see how deep it actually was inside.

When he saw that there were more than 10 stacks of it, he became slightly speechless.

"This is more than I expected."

Mara let out a short, breathless laugh.

"You’re right," she muttered. "This is actually insane."

Mara took a step closer. She crouched slightly just to get a better look at it. Her eyes scanned the inside of the safe like she was trying to make sense of it.

"There’s... what? Millions in here?" she said, shaking her head. "And he just handed you this like it was nothing?"

"I guess he really does trust me that much," Gray muttered as he took a bundle of money.

He knew that this much money wasn’t something you could just trust to anyone. That already says something about his relationship with Alistair. It seemed like the man was confident enough that he wouldn’t betray him.

That actually made him think a little about why Alistair can trust him this much.

"Anyway, we gotta get the money that we need." Gray briefly glanced at Mara

Mara nodded at him. "I have a plastic bag in my pocket. Will that work?"

"I don’t know, but that’s the only thing we have. I forgot that we need to carry this money." Gray let out a sigh.

With it, the two of them quickly moved to get the money. They wouldn’t be able get everything, but they had to make sure that the $2 million they need was there. Gray can just go back here again tomorrow.

What matters now is the money that they were supposed to give the man, and the money for him.

He planned to use the money for their plan.

Gray took a deep breath before moving.

"Alright," he muttered. "Focus."

Mara quickly snapped out of it and nodded. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a folded plastic bag, shaking it open.

"This suddenly feels very underprepared," she said under her breath.

"It’s fine. We’ll make do." Gray huffed faintly.

He started grabbing bundles of money, his movements more faster now. Each stack he picked up, he counted before placing it into the bag. The soft sound of cash piling together filled the quiet space.

Mara also followed his lead.

"Be careful," Gray reminded her when he realized that her hand was shaking a little.

"I am careful," she muttered, but the truth was her heart was beating faster in her chest.

After just a minute, the thin plastic was already stretched slightly

"This is getting heavy," Mara whispered, adjusting her grip. It was her first time holding and carrying this much money. This was even much higher than all the money she had in her entire life.

"Keep going. We’re not done yet."

A few minutes passed, and the plastic got full.

"We should stop there. That should already be around four."

"$4 million?"

"Yup," Gray nodded slightly. "Based on my rough estimate."

Mara stared at the bag in her hand, as it might explode.

"Damn. I couldn’t believe that we’re just casually holding $4 million in a plastic bag," she said in disbelief.

"Yeah, and there’s still more inside." Gray briefly glanced back at the safe.

There was still almost half of the money.

"We can’t take everything, or else this plastic will be ripped apart," he said.

Mara nodded immediately. "Yeah. This is already pushing it."

Gray reached forward and carefully pushed the remaining stacks of money back into place. Then, he closed the door of the safety box.

The lock sealed shut once more.

For a second, both of them just stood there, letting everything settle. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

But not even a few minutes had passed when the heavy metal door of the entrance opened again. Both of them turned slightly at it and saw that the staff was already waiting for them.

"Are you done already, Sir?" she asked politely.

Gray nodded at her.

"Yes. We’re done."

"Very well," she said with a small nod. She didn’t ask further what they did inside. In their line of work, being silent was one of their roles. "Please follow me back." freewёbnoνel.com

With it, they quickly followed the woman. They were led back through the secured doors. By the time they reached the main area again, there were no people in there because the bank was already about to close.

"Sir, may I ask if you have transportation arranged?" The staff asked worriedly as she glanced over the plastic they were carrying.

When Gray realized it, he paused slightly.

"Not really."

"We didn’t even think about that..." Mara whispered to herself.

Gray just shrugged faintly at that.

"In that case, we can arrange a vehicle to take you to your destination."

"Really?" Mara’s eyes widened slightly.

"That would be helpful," Gray answered calmly.

Mara slowly turned her head toward him.

"You’re just accepting that?" she whispered.

"Why not?" Gray glanced at her.

"Fair enough." Mara smiled.

The staff gave them a small nod.

"I’ll arrange it immediately. However," she added, "we will just need you to sign a form, Sir. It’s part of our member services."

"No problem." Gray nodded without thinking much.

Mara frowned. "Member?" she muttered, turning to look at him. "What member?"

Gray paused. Then he gave a small and slightly awkward smile.

"Ah."

Before he could say anything, the staff spoke casually from the side.

"Mr. Gray is one of our registered clients, Ma’am."

"..."

Mara’s head quickly snapped towards Gray.

"You’re what?"
