Chapter 183: Detention
No One’s POV
Later that afternoon, after the chaotic school day finally came to an end, Viella and Lily returned safely to the massive mansion and went about their usual daily routine. Lily quietly helped her little lady with her homework and prepared her tea, keeping a sharp eye on their surroundings.
Although Lucian was nowhere to be found around the house for the rest of the day, his annoying and sneaky tricks were absolutely everywhere.
When Lily finally walked into her private servant bedroom to change her shoes, she pulled back her blanket, only to find two of Lucian’s exotic venomous snakes coiled tightly in the center of her mattress. They raised their small heads and let out loud warning hisses, clearly trying their best to terrify her.
Yet, Lily didn’t even blink an eye. She didn’t scream, and she didn’t run away. Instead, she reached down with her bare hands, grabbed both of the slippery reptiles calmly behind their necks, and casually tossed them right out of her open bedroom window into the bushes below.
Just like their arrogant young master, the snakes seemed to feel that their pride and self-respect were deeply hurt by her total lack of fear, and they slithered away into the dark garden angrily.
Lily watched them go, feeling quite amazed by how his pets shared the exact same dramatic temper as him.
At night, the entire mansion fell into a deep silence as everyone went to sleep.
Suddenly, in the middle of the dark night, Lily’s eyes snapped wide open. She sat up instantly in her small bed, a strange feeling taking over her body. She felt a burning intense itching sensation on her left forearm. Lifting her sleeve, she looked down at that same mysterious mark carved into her skin, which was currently glowing with a very faint warmth.
Her killer instincts immediately told her that something was completely wrong. Trusting her gut, she slid out of bed, completely ignored the dark, and quickly started walking down the silent hallways towards her young lady’s bedroom to check on her safety.
The moment she softly pushed open the grand doors to Viella’s room, her eyes narrowed. The long curtains were fluttering wildly in the cold night wind, and a tall dark figure dressed in black was currently bending over the bed, raising a sharp blade right over the sleeping little girl. It was an assassin attack.
Without wasting a single fraction of a second, Lily sprinted across the room with speed.
Before the blade could descend onto her lady, Lily lunged forward and boldly grabbed the assassin’s wrist. She violently twisted his arm with all her compact strength until the knife slipped from his fingers and clattered loudly onto the floor.
Using her momentum, she delivered a harsh kick to his chest, knocking him completely off balance. She immediately dove forward to grab the fallen weapon to finish him, but the trained intruder quickly scrambled back up to his feet.
Recognizing that his surprise attack had failed, the man turned around and ran at full speed towards the open balcony. Lily followed right behind him, her dark eyes filled with a icy promise of death, but the agile assassin jumped straight down over the high railing into the dark courtyard below before she could catch him.
Lily stopped at the edge of the balcony, panting slightly as the wind whipped her hair. Realizing the intruder was gone, she walked back into the bedroom and picked up the weapon he had dropped on the floor.
She held the blade up to the faint moonlight, inspecting it closely. Her eyebrows suddenly furrowed in deep confusion. The blade wasn’t made of deadly steel at all, it was a cheap, blunt prop made of painted wood. It was entirely fake.
Lily stood completely frozen in the dark room, looking from the useless toy knife back to the open balcony doors. If the assassin didn’t actually come here to commit a murder... then what was the real point of this entire break-in?
A realization suddenly washed over her cold mind. Was this whole thing... just a carefully planned trap?
The next morning, the bright sunlight streamed through the massive windows of the mansion, but the atmosphere inside felt heavier than usual.
Viella sat at her vanity, tilting her head as she looked through the mirror at her little maid who was carefully brushing her long hair. "Why exactly do you look like you stayed up the whole entire night, Lily? Are you feeling sick?"
Lily looked at her through the reflection and simply shook her head in her usual quiet manner. "I did not, My Lady. I am perfectly fine," she replied smoothly. Even though she denied it, it was completely and clearly visible that she hadn’t slept a wink; dark circles were showing under her eyes, casting shadows on her pale skin. She had spent the rest of the night awake, guarding Viella’s door after the strange encounter with the fake assassin.
A short while later, they reached the grand dining table for breakfast. To Viella’s immense happiness, her strict parents weren’t there at all today. Only Lucian and Marcella were sitting at the table.
The moment Lily walked into the room, Lucian casually glanced up at her. Seeing the obvious dark circles under her eyes and her tired posture, a satisfied smile spread across his face. He fully thought that his sneaky venomous snakes had successfully done the work of scaring her out of her wits and completely disturbing her sleep all night long. He felt incredibly proud of his petty revenge. Across the table, Marcella didn’t even bother to glance at any of them, completely trapped in her own world.
Lily instantly noticed Lucian’s intense smug gaze. A sudden thought came to her mind as she poured Viella’s juice. Was it actually him who had sent that fake assassin to her lady’s room last night? But then again, she reasoned, why would he use a fake wooden knife if he wanted to do real harm? It didn’t make complete sense, but she kept her guard up anyway.
Soon enough, the quiet breakfast finished, and they all left the dining hall one by one to head out for the day.
Later that morning at the school, the classes were going smoothly until the mid-day break.
Lily was standing perfectly still in the hallway, patiently waiting for her young lady just outside the girls’ washroom. Suddenly, she heard a loud crash from inside the room, followed by the sound of muffled gasps. Trusting her instincts, Lily instantly pushed the door open and went inside.
The scene inside was chaotic. She saw Viella sitting flat on the wet floor, her stuffs scattered everywhere, completely surrounded by a group of older, arrogant noble girls who were looking down at her with mean sneers.
The leader of the group, a tall girl with a cruel smile, heard the door open and looked up at the newcomer. "Oh, look who it is," she jeered loudly. "I heard a rumor around the hallways that you got a brand-new guard dog to protect you, Calestine. Is this tiny, pathetic thing the famous dog?"
She pointed a finger directly at Lily’s face, laughing mockingly with her friends.
Completely ignoring their insults and rude laughter, Lily calmly walked straight past the older girls. She knelt down on the floor, gently took Viella’s trembling hands, and carefully helped her lady stand back up to her feet, brushing the dust off her clean school uniform.
The mean girl looked down at Viella’s flushed face and mocked her cruelly. "What is the little crybaby about to cry all over again? Aww, how pathetic!"
The rest of the girls laughed loudly, thoroughly enjoying the bullying.
"I seriously don’t get how someone as perfect and elegant as Lucian got a weak little sister like you," the leader continued, crossing her arms with a deep sneer. "What an absolute insult to the proud name of the Viella family."
Lily’s eyes turned dark, and she glared directly at the older girl with an icy stare that could kill.
The leader shivered slightly under the gaze, but her anger quickly took over. "Shut up! How dare a filthy, low-class girl like you look at me like this!" she screamed. Infuriated, she raised her hand high, preparing to deliver a harsh slap right across Lily’s face.
But Lily was faster. Before the hand could even come close, she reached up and caught the girl’s wrist in a crushing grip. The girl tried frantically to wiggle free, twisting her body and pulling with all her might, but Lily’s hand was like a heavy iron vice. Lily gave a sharp twist, causing the girl’s wrist to pop. Soon, her hand was severely bruised, turning shade of purple. Shocked by the immense pain, the mean girl completely lost her pride and started crying out loud.
Her minions, seeing their powerful leader get crushed so easily without the servant even breaking a sweat, completely panicked. Terrified that they would be next, they turned around and cowardly ran away out of the washroom.
Just a few seconds later, the loud commotion brought authority. A strict female teacher walked inside the bathroom, her face twisted in deep disapproval.
"What in the world is going on in here?" the teacher demanded sharply. "Didn’t I clearly tell everyone morning that school violence is absolutely not allowed on these grounds?!"
The bruised girl immediately ran up to the teacher, tears streaming down her face as she put on a fake act. "Teacher! She hurt me! Look at my hand, it’s completely bruised and broken! That psycho attacked me for no reason!"
Throughout the entire accusation, Lily stayed completely silent, her expression remaining totally blank as if she weren’t even a part of the conversation.
Viella quickly walked up, her voice trembling but determined as she tried to explain the truth.
"Teacher, please listen! Lily was just trying to save me from them! She is the one who pushed me to the wet floor first and tried to hit us!"
But the bully kept crying louder and louder, making a massive scene. The teacher, biased toward the wealthier student, shook her head and looked directly at Lily with a harsh glare. "I don’t want to hear any excuses from a newcomer. You! Go straight to detention right now!"
Lily didn’t care about the unfair punishment at all. Without saying a single word or trying to defend herself, she turned around and blankly started walking off toward the detention hall.
Viella panicked and tried to run after her to stop the madness, but Lily gently caught her shoulder for a brief second, giving her a calm, reassuring look to quiet her down. She then silently walked out of the room, leaving her worried little lady behind before casting a single glance at that girl.
