Chapter 9: The World’s Strongest Broom

The sounds of shockwaves exploding throughout the hallways was a echoing nightmare of frustration, and genuine effort to try her best and control her crazy abilities. Every stroke of her broom against the floor send forth a blast of wind that cleaned everything in her path, rendering it in a sparkling, clean state that still baffled her at this point.

"Pant...pant..." Loraine panted, grabbing the broom stick for support as she could barely feel her aching arms with how much they were in pain, genuine sweat pouring from her face at the hands of what was supposed to be an easy task.

’If anybody saw me struggling so much just to sweep a darn floor, then that would be so damn humiliating.’ She thought, wiping the sweat of her brow as she continued to work through the discomfort and continued to sweep some more, nearly knocking herself to the ground because of her lack of control.

WHOOSH!!!

BAM!!!

The chaotic sweeping continued, until eventually she was done with the Great Hall. Loraine slumped to the bottom of the mansion’s grand staircase in utter exhaustion, dropping the broom from her trembling arms that were as tough as spaghetti at this point.

She had read countless stories of Isekai protagonists with overpowered abilities and how effortlessly they seemed to be able to use them, even when these stories never had the protagonists struggle to adapt to their newly gained overpowered abilities.

Were these protagonists just geniuses? Or was she just unlucky that she didn’t magically have the ability to adapt to everything this new world could throw at her.

"Genuinely...how do these protagonists do it? I..can’t even sweep a damn floor without blowing myself into oblivion, and now I’m thinking of having to eventually fight a monster, if anything I’m probably going to be killing myself in battle before the monster would even be able to do anything at this rate." She reflected, a small laugh escaping her throat as she shook her head, already understanding what she had to do now. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"Alright, first things first, I need to get control of my abilities, and I’m going to have to do that without turning the mansion into rubble and getting my head chopped off." Loraine said, "But for now however, I’ll consider this small task a win as I practically tackled the most difficult thing on this list and managed to survive without breaking something."

Loraine opened her status window, the screen manifesting before her eyes as she stared at her completed tasks and the ones that were remaining.

[(Incomplete) Sweep the Great Hall (1/1)]

[(Incomplete) Attend To Two Areas In The Garden (0/2)]

[(Incomplete) Bathroom and Lavatory Duty(0/2)]

[Incomplete) Laundry Duty(0/2)]

[(Incomplete) Clean The Study 0/1)]

She wondered what sort of rewards she would receive from completing her daily quest, because as easy as these tasks seemed on paper, she knew that she would have a very hard time doing them properly with just how overpowered [Mystic Amplification] made these skills.

"I’ll focus on that later, time to get up and-!" Loraine muttered to herself, rising up to her feet as she prepared to make her way to the garden, before a angry shout was directed at her, causing her to flinch in place as she immediately recognized the voice.

’Oh no....’

"What is the meaning of all this noise!? Can’t you see how early it is in the morning?" The head maid berated her, walking up to her with a absolutely furious look on her face, her aura dangerous and wrathful.

"And why are you-!" The head maid stopped in her tracks as she started to observe her surroundings, a surprised look forming on her elderly features. Her eyes darted to every corner of the room, finding the place to be squeaky clean and glowing with a light that she hadn’t seen ever since the mansion was first formed.

’Did...did she do this?’ Margret asked herself, a dumbfounded look forming on her face as she glanced at Loraine, noticing the broom in her hand. She was suspicious of how Loraine was able to clean the halls so well, not even her with her [Sacred Maid] abilities could do something of this magnitude so efficiently.

’No, I shouldn’t jump to that conclusion. The girl is a failed awakener, and I doubt she could’ve awakened any sort of ability, let alone a whole maid class.’ Margret thought, shaking her head to herself as she seemed to have finally calmed down.

She gave Loraine one last glance, before walking out of the room to attend to more important areas of the house, leaving Loraine in a state of dumbfounded Ness as she couldn’t even understand what just occurred.

’Did she let me go? That easily?’ The thought lingered in her mind, but it was far more uncomfortable than she would like to admit. After seeing Margret’s personality and fierce nature first hand, Loraine immediately understood that this wasn’t going to the last time she would have to deal with something like that again in the future.

"I guess it must’ve shocked her that I could clean so well, especially since they think I’m not a proper maid." Loraine muttered to herself, picking up the broom from the floor as she made her way towards the garden, walking through the grand halls of the mansion.

"I need to be more careful in hiding my abilities next time, who knows what will happen if they were to ever find out? Surely no sort of happy ending would occur for me, I could even get antagonized by the other maids!"

The thought made her worry, as in such a setting she would be the most problematic. The sudden awakening of the unawakened scum, and her rise to the top as head maid would definitely not go without consequences.

As after seeing Margret’s attitude towards her, this was far more personal than just a unawakened maid having the audacity to aim for the top. It was the sheer stupidity of trash wanting to overthrow order, and Loraine was certain that they wouldn’t have it.

’I must become stronger....’
