Chapter 3: Three Chances

Misha grit her teeth, staring at her class with a bit of a scowl on her face.

[Blacksmith]

And a common class at that. The class itself wasn’t bad, in fact it could be a great class to start out with, as it immediately brought her earning opportunities assuming she was going to be naturally good at them, but if this world was as dangerous as the system suggested, then a Common Class wasn’t going to cut it.

Not by a long shot.

’I need something more efficient, more powerful, something rarer.’ Misha thought, her returning her eyes back to the roulette wheel.

’I need to think clearly of what I want in a class, It’s obvious that I need to be able to actively defend myself, and be able to grow stronger as well.’ She pondered, her mind going over all the possibilities in her mind.

When it came to combat classes in fantasy novels, swordsman were the most common and were often used by a lot of protagonists in the novels she would read. However, she felt that a class like that didn’t exactly suit her as she didn’t have any close range combat experience, nor did she want to risk getting up close and personal.

’Perhaps a spear, or a marksman would be a more efficient.’ She considered, using the spear to keep a distance and impale her enemies was a great option for combat, as many considered a spear the perfect combat weapon if used correctly.

While a marksman on the other hand could really be anything that allows them to shoot stuff while keeping a far greater range, and provide them with greater agility to get out of harms way if absolutely necessary.

And seeing that she didn’t want be the close range fighter, especially in a dangerous world, she would rather go for those classes.

’Alright, I’ve come to a conclusion on what I want.’ Nodding to herself, Misha confirmed her next roll, discarding the [Blacksmith] profession she had just gotten and spinning the roulette again, the giant wheel set in motion to grant her another profession.

She just hoped it wouldn’t be another common profession.

"Don’t let me down now, I need to ensure that I have the best possible odds for survival, I can’t let a miscalculation be the one thing that ends me. There must be zero room for mistakes." Misha said to herself, her voice firm and grounded as if she were ordering herself not to fail.

She only had 2 more chances, she couldn’t mess up now.

[Ding! You Have Received a Common Class!]

[Scarlet Thief]

[Do You Wish To Accept?]

[Yes] or [No]

Misha felt the air in her lungs leave her body, her throat choaking on nothing as she stared at the system message in front of her with a look of horror on her face, her skin turning pale as her fingers uncontrollably twitched at her sides, her heart rate accelerating.

Another dud, another failure.

"No no no....." Misha muttered under her breath, shaking her head vehemently as she stared at the system message.

Two Common Classes, back to back, she hadn’t accounted for how easy it be to roll for these, a strong sense of foreboding washing over her as she was starting to feel...

Nervous.

Uncertain. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Possibly even afraid.

"..." Misha stood there for a moment, her gaze remaining on the [Scarlet Thief] Class. She couldn’t see the Class’s description, at least not yet. She figured that she would probably be able to see it if she were to accept, but she didn’t want to take that gamble as she still had 1 roll chance left.

Her last shot at a different class.

’This would probably be the best class for me to pick right now, as I’m not sure I’d be able to roll something better than this. Blacksmith was alright, and this was even better, although they were both common classes, at least [Scarlet Thief] sounds like it has some threat to it.’

She knew from the experience of her past job that it was always the most practical to pick the things that could get the guaranteed result, and to never risk anything as that could have diminishing returns.

The risk taking was for the entrepreneurs, the big shots, not her.

’But...what if I take that leap of faith...I mean, there’s always a possibility of getting something better. I’ve already rolled two common classes, so a third one in a row seems very unlikely....unless this thing is rigged of course, and I would’ve just played myself.’

She thought, clenching her fists at her sides.

’But, if I want to have the best chances at making it through with this life, then it wouldn’t be ideal to always reside in the safety net. I could do that after I’ve begun my new life.’

She nodded to herself, her resolve tightening as she stared at the roll option with determination blazing in her eyes. Without another second of hesitation, Misha pressed the roll option one final time, determined to take the gamble and risk everything for a better shot in her next life.

The system pulsated once more, the roulette starting to spin once more, the air thick with anticipation.

Misha’s eyes were glued to the roulette, the bright blurring lights a fierce assault on her irises, but she couldn’t feel pain in this plane of darkness anymore, so if anything it looked rather beautiful, the colors intensifying in a bright light before the roulette began to slow down. freewebnøvel.com

The arrow crossed white, green, blue, gold, and all the other colors on the wheel, its speed coming to a frighting stop.

The arrow then slowed down on red, Misha’s eyes widening, her heart going at a hundred miles per hour as every nerve in her body practically froze, anticipation in her veins.

’I...is this it?’ She thought, but just as soon as that thought entered her mind. The arrow wobbled forward one last time, and landed on a blue Class.

"Tch....damn..." Misha grunted in frustration, shaking her head. She wanted to scream, to shout, to let out her frustration, but she wasn’t childish enough to do that.

After all, her work environment had practically trained her to put her feelings last before anything else.

And that would apply here too.

[Ding! You Have a Rare Class!]

[Sacred Maid]

[All Roll Amounts Have Been Exhausted]

[Sacred Maid Has Been Automatically Assigned As Your Chosen Class!]

’Sacred...Maid?’ She thought, a bit bewildered by the Class she had just received.

It wasn’t a close range fighter, nor a mage of some kind.

It seemed rather...passive?

But then why would a seemingly ordinary class so rare?

Was it because it had the word sacred in it?

"It’s a rare class, I guess my gamble paid off, but..." Her words trailed off, uncertainty clouding her mind.

"Was it really worth it in the end?"
