Chapter 20: A Maid Cannot Wield Swords
Blue sapphires, that was the color being reflected In Loraine’s irises, her eyes wide with awe as strange symbols manifested themselves within her once crimson gaze. Wherever she looked, a system panel collecting the information of a Item would appear and she could read it to understand its origins and unique properties, not that anything in the room was in dire need of understanding as these items were pretty much common knowledge.
Books, shelves, the floor...the usual.
"I guess this Skill is only ever useful if I’m analyzing things with magical properties, which kinda sucks not gonna lie." She muttered, a bit bummed out that she couldn’t really make use of her newfound Skill at the moment, only downside was that it steadily drained her Mana the longer she kept the Skill activated.
"Although...if its description is true, then I can analyze people too." Loraine mused, scratching her chin with a contemplative expression as she already knew what she was going to use it on. An excited grin formed on her lips as she proceeded to clean the study, already formulating a plan in her head.
For now however, she would deactivate the Skill, as she had no need for it.
After a while of cleaning, and the study being rendered brand new once more, Loraine had finally completed today’s Daily Quest, and a little bit faster than the first time she had done this. The system popped up beside her, flickering into existence as it immediately proceeded to congratulate her.
[Ding! You Have Completed Today’s Daily Quests!]
[Do You Wish To View Your Rewards Now?]
[Yes] [No]
"Let’s find a better place to claim this, so I don’t get snuck up on again." Loraine muttered, glancing over the study one last time as a sort of precaution. Just then however, her eyes landed on what looked to be a suit of armor belonging to a knight, the cold steel reflected in the dim sunlight as the knight statue held onto a neatly carved blade, its hands resting on it’s hilt as it stood like an imposing figure.
’Did I miss this?’ She blinked in surprise, ’I must’ve ignored it the first time I was cleaning here.’ She thought, walking towards the knight armor as she stood a few metres away from it. An idea struck in her mind as she immediately glanced at the knight armor, her eyes taking on a blue hue as she activated her [Eyes Of Appraisal] Skill.
[Item: Steel Carved Knight Armor(Full Set)]
[Rarity: Uncommon]
[Effect: +25 Vitality, Reduces The Amount Of Damage Received By 10%. As A Side Effect, Decreased Agility By 15 Points.]
[Description: A Fine Suit Of Armor Made For Those Who Serve The Kingdom As Knights. Carved Out Of Steel, It’s Form Is Tough And Dexterous, Providing Excellent Defense. However, Due To Being Made Of Pure Steel, It’s Weight Is Quite Troublesome, Hindering Movement Speed To A Significant Degree.]
’Wow...25 Vitality is a lot of points.’ Loraine thought in amazement, just from her earlier levelling experience, she could already feel just what a few points in Vitality had done for her. Not only had she felt more energetic overall, but she felt tougher and more durable too. She couldn’t even begin to fathom how she would feel if she could wear the armor.
’It’s radiating a green aura too, I hadn’t noticed it before but each piece of the armor is an Uncommon rarity, each piece proving 2-5 Points, with the chest plate and leggings providing 10 each respectively.’ She nodded to herself, completing her analysis.
"Now then, for the main reason I even came over here." Loraine said to the sword underneath the knight’s gloves, wrapping her hands around the hilt of the sword. She used [Magical Grasp] to hold the gloves of the knight in place, not moving them in the slightest as she knew that she would send them flying into a wall, or worse, outside a window.
"I can atleast hold it still with what little control I have with this skill...that’s good to know." She remarked, turning the blade over in her arms. Unlike the [Steel Carved Knight Armor], the sword which was identified to be a [Silver Longsword] Common grade Item. A bit of a letdown as the rest of the set were Uncommon. freewebnoveℓ.com

’Standard isekai protagonist’s weapon, a bit boring if you ask me.’ Loraine said, grabbing the sword tightly in her hand as she practiced swinging it around a bit, finding the weight to be a bit troublesome as she couldn’t swing it around as effortlessly as she envisioned.
Whoosh!
Slash!
Whip!
’Huh...I dunno, but something feels off. My body’s...reacting weird..’ She thought, a strange sensation washing over her as she started feeling unexplainably weaker when holding the blade.
Just then, the system materialized beside her, a blaring alarm of danger ringing in her ears as she turned to face the panel, a shocked expression flaring on he face.
[Error! Selected Item: Silver Longsword Doesn’t Align With Designated Class!]
[All Item Effects Nullified To 1!]
"Wha...what!?" Loraine screamed in surprise, before quickly instinctively covering her mouth with her hand, a perplexed expression on her face as a wave of confusion and sheer bafflement washed over her.
’I can’t use swords!? Are we serious?’ She thought at the sheer stupidity of it all. ’How the hell am I meant to defend myself now!? Just when I thought I found myself a good weapon choice in this hellhole!’ freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
She sighed, ’Item doesn’t align with designated class...does this mean that if it doesn’t align with being a maid...I can’t do anything?’ A nervous sweat broke on her face, her first class restriction being a heavy reality to get used to.
’Damn it, I’ll just have to contemplate these things at a later time. I’ve been in this room for far too long.’ Loraine said, quickly rearranging the sword with the knight to the best of her abilities, before quickly running towards the door of the study, and making her out of there, glancing down the hall for any other maids before making her way down the hall.
’I’ll just have to find Sarah and ask her about this.’
