Chapter 1381: Chapter 1355: Foolish and Rich
Ye Chen knew this boy was the one he had seen earlier, and of course, he was the only one standing in front of the boy.
The people passing by seemed to be avoiding something, not even looking.
Occasionally, someone would stop to listen for a while, then quickly leave.
However, Ye Chen stood there for a long time; he thought the boy’s voice was truly very pleasant.
Su Wanyi was still looking at the items sold at the little stalls, just like a little girl seeing something she liked, her face showing a happy expression.
Ye Chen continued to stand in front of the boy, eyes closed, listening to the song he was singing.
"Sir, please be kind and help my girlfriend. She urgently needs money for surgery," the boy said to Ye Chen, appearing very pleading.
Since he started singing here, only Ye Chen had stopped in front of him for a long time, looking utterly enchanted.
The boy saw Ye Chen as if he was a lifeline, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. He had pinned all his hopes on the gentleman in front of him.
"What’s your name?" Ye Chen asked the boy.
"My name is Wang Hao," the boy replied.
"Are you still in school, or have you graduated?" Ye Chen continued to ask.
"I’ve just graduated from university," Wang Hao said.
"Why don’t you find a job instead of singing here?" Ye Chen asked once more.
Wang Hao frowned and said, "It’s hard to find a job nowadays. I’ve submitted numerous resumes and interviewed with several companies, but none have hired me."
In fact, Ye Chen knew even without Wang Hao saying it that it was difficult for college graduates to find jobs now, given that there’s a large number of bachelor’s graduates, and the competition is very intense.
This resonated deeply with Ye Chen, who was lucky to have a system that let him excel in life.
But not everyone in the world is fortunate like this; some can only find a mediocre job, and if they do well, their lives might change.
Yet the vast majority live their nine-to-five lives, busying themselves each day just to make a living.
"Why not use your singing talent to get a job?" Ye Chen asked Wang Hao with a smile.
"Finding a job by singing isn’t very realistic," Wang Hao shook his head and said.
The passersby saw Ye Chen chatting with the boy and showed expressions of helplessness, thinking Ye Chen must have been deceived by the boy.
After all, scammers have all kinds of tricks nowadays, including exploiting people’s sympathy to deceive others.
The boy sang here every day saying it was to fund his girlfriend’s treatment, trying to gain sympathy. But in this age, people aren’t so easily fooled.
Almost no one believed the boy was telling the truth; they just thought he was a scammer using this method to cheat money.
Seeing Ye Chen chatting happily with the boy and even intending to give him money, the crowd began to discuss.
"I think this man is being deceived."
"He looks well-dressed and energetic; I didn’t expect him to be so foolish and believe the scammer’s words."
"I think he’s just a fool with too much money; the more someone is like this, the easier it is to get scammed."
"Well, if he gets cheated, he deserves it. Only by suffering losses can one gain wisdom."
At this moment, an old man walked over, saw Ye Chen chatting with the boy, and quickly pulled Ye Chen aside, kindly advising, "Young man, there are too many scammers these days. You must keep your eyes peeled. I think this kid is up to no good, scamming money."
"Grandpa, thank you for the advice. I can tell whether he’s a scammer or not." Ye Chen said.
Hearing Ye Chen’s words, the old man knew the young man hadn’t listened to him and shook his head, leaving.
Wang Hao saw the others showing contemptuous expressions towards him, heard the comments about him, and quickly said, "I’m not a scammer. Please believe me. I’m really not a scammer. The reason I sing here is in hopes of meeting kind people who would help my girlfriend."
He just heard the old man and Ye Chen’s conversation, and seeing Ye Chen returning, he quickly said, "Sir, please believe me. I’m really not lying. Everything I said is true."
"Sigh, young and able-bodied, yet he thinks of getting something for nothing."
"Seeing him like this, I must teach my children to be down-to-earth."
"Always dreaming of pie falling from the sky, how would that work?"
"Exactly, if it were true, everyone would stay at home doing nothing, just waiting with their mouths open."
Mocking voices sounded around the boy.
"Wang Hao, you don’t need to explain; I believe you." Ye Chen suddenly said.
The crowd voiced skepticism and ridiculed the boy, but Ye Chen stood out with his statement.
"Someone wants to be deceived; it’s none of our business."
"They say eating before others will make you hungry; if he insists on ignoring advice, there’s nothing we can do."
Ye Chen didn’t care about what people said about him; he believed what he saw, and through the system, he knew what Wang Hao said was true, not one word was a lie.
"Sir, do you really want to believe me?" Wang Hao asked excitedly.
Just now, he saw Ye Chen being pulled aside, feeling very nervous because Ye Chen was the only one who believed him here.
Wang Hao was really afraid that Ye Chen would listen to the old man’s words and doubt him. He genuinely needed money for his girlfriend’s treatment.
"Yes, I believe you." Ye Chen said with a smile.
After browsing the stalls, Su Wanyi noticed a crowd gathering, feeling curious. Just now, there was only a boy singing by the bridge, and Ye Chen wasn’t walking with her but standing there.
Now there seemed to be so many more people as if everyone on the bridge gathered there.
When she walked over, she finally saw Ye Chen chatting with the singing boy, surrounded by pointing and gossiping voices.
"Honey, what are you doing?" Su Wanyi asked Ye Chen with a puzzled expression as she squeezed through the crowd.
"Darling, I’m chatting." Ye Chen replied.
Su Wanyi saw Ye Chen’s chat partner was the boy, and felt slightly nervous.
She furrowed her brow and said, "What is there to talk about?"
"Hello, sister." Wang Hao greeted Su Wanyi politely.
"Hello." Su Wanyi nodded gently and said.
"Honey, let’s go." Su Wanyi said to Ye Chen.
"Alright." Ye Chen said with a smile.
Then he glanced at the boy and said, "I have something to take care of now. Give me your contact information, and I’ll get in touch later."
Wang Hao took out a piece of paper and a pen, wrote a phone number, and handed it to Ye Chen, saying, "Sir, I’ll be waiting to hear from you."
Ye Chen’s next action surprised everyone present.
