Chapter 13: goblins
’This is not good.’ Arthur’s eyes narrowed, he quickly scanned his surroundings, and between the shrubs he saw several small creatures lurking around him.
Their silent, deliberate movements and their upright, humanlike bodies made him realize he wasn’t dealing with ordinary monsters, but intelligent creatures.
He took a defensive stance, and before he could fully understand his situation, dozens of hideous green creatures emerged from between the shrubs, and without any warning began pelting him with stones.
’Goblins?’
Arthur was greatly surprised. How could he not be? For here he was seeing one of the strangest races he had read about in fantasy stories, which unfortunately were no longer mere fantasy since he had come to this world.
He did not find enough time to express his astonishment, for dozens of large stones had begun striking him hard, leaving several bruises on his skin.
This was very painful and annoying, and even though he had not taken great damage, he could not suppress his anger, he gritted his fangs, and lunged toward the nearest goblin.
When he reached his target, he opened his mouth, full of desire to bite and tear it apart, but at that moment, he felt intense danger.
From the shrubs around him, five other goblins emerged, they aimed their long wooden spears at him and stabbed him all at the same time.
His pupils contracted as he leaped backward. The spears passed before him, and his sides, and one of them even scratched his shoulder.
He retreated quickly, and without giving him any chance to think, the rest of the goblins pelted him with another volley of stones, and this made his situation even worse.
His features filled with ferocity, and he growled loudly: "You damned scoundrels, I will kill you all." freёwebnovel.com
He had come to hate the goblins’ tricks, and felt as though they were mocking him. Deep down he was aware that his impulsiveness and agitation were the reason behind falling into this annoying situation, but he faced difficulty calming himself.
He endured the blows that fell on him from every direction. The bruises and wounds on his body increased, and his blood began dripping on the ground.
He activated the "Primal Predator" bloodline to its fullest, and only then did a little composure return to him, he took a deep breath, and suppressed his raging instincts.

He used the "Enhanced Senses" and "Evaluation" skills at the same time to examine his enemies and surroundings, and because of that, he noticed that all the goblins were very weak.
Since his sense of smell was not working, he naturally relied on his sense of hearing.
Despite their weakness, he did not relax, because he discovered that there was a large number of spear-carrying goblins hiding between the shrubs, and they were waiting for the right opportunity to pounce on him.
’Shit, it seems I’ve fallen into a carefully planned trap. These goblins are smart, they’re following a well-practiced strategy.’
A twisted smile appeared on his face because of the many injuries he had sustained, and he said in a cunning tone: "You annoying insects, do you think you will defeat me with this childish plan?"
It was truly ridiculous, that these primitive monsters would surpass him in intelligence, he may look like a wolf but on the inside he was still a civilized human with great knowledge, and above average intelligence.
He bared his fangs, and began jumping left and right dodging as many stones as possible, for he was no longer able to endure more damage.
Left, forward, right, left then backwards, his movements were completely unpredictable, and this confused the goblins entirely, and they were no longer able to hit him.
Then suddenly he surged toward a nearby goblin, without giving the rest of the goblins enough time to react.
In the blink of an eye he reached his target. Like the previous time, he felt danger, and at that moment he changed the direction of his attack toward another goblin, before the spear-carrying goblins could attack him.
His movement was very cunning, so the goblins became confused, and stood astonished in their places for a moment. This was the first time they had encountered such an unexpected situation, for all the other prey that fell into their trap followed the same movement pattern.
Before they could think about what they had to do, Arthur reached his target, and without any mercy he bit the poor goblin in the neck, and ripped its head off.

The horrifying scene woke the rest from their astonishment, and quickly two goblins emerged from between the shrubs before him and stabbed him with their spears, Arthur was prepared for this, he jumped to the side and dodged the attack easily.
And instead of retreating backwards, he bit the nearest spear to him, and pulled it hard, dragging the goblin holding the spear toward him, then swiped with his front claws, and tore its throat, and after that, he attacked the other goblin and ripped open its belly.

His attack was fast, surprising, and merciless. As he had expected it was easy to open a gap he could escape through, but he did not use it.
Now, after confirming that this group of goblins was stupid and incompetent, it would be a waste to leave and let this feast of XP escape his claws.
The rest of the goblins felt a little fear, yet, they showed no hesitation and did not retreat, their lives were harsh, and death was something ordinary for them.
In addition to that, they also possessed a kind of pride, and would not let their prey escape this easily, they quickly closed the gap in their trap, and began pelting him with stones again.
But that was useless, for after Arthur understood the nature of their tactics, it became ineffective against him, with complete ease, he managed to kill a fourth goblin, then a fifth, and so he killed more and more of them.
Within just minutes, he shattered their formation entirely, eliminated half of them, and forced the rest to flee in terror.
In total, he killed about 25 goblins, and obtained 36XP, and this brought happiness to his heart and made him forget all the pain and damage he had sustained.
Arthur stood amid the scattered corpses and Nullscent flowers, his face covered in blood.
He could have earlier used the Nullscent flowers to distract the goblins, it would have been enough just to tear them and they would explode, but he had not done that out of fear that the results might be counterproductive.
In any case, there was one thing that was bothering him currently: "I cannot eat these things."
