Chapter 12: Nullscent Flower

On the other hand, not all his days were peaceful and free of problems. During this short period, he faced many deadly dangers. He fought another leopard, was poisoned by a snake, and nearly got killed by a rabbit that outranked him.

It was very strange to see a large wolf fleeing from a small rabbit, but these were the rules, appearance, size, intelligence, were of little significance, for all that truly mattered was Rank, in this world even an ant could kill a grown human easily if it outranked them.

In any case, what had passed had passed, what was bothering Arthur currently was that he had not been able to hunt anything throughout the past four days, this in addition to the fact that he had woken up this morning feeling unwell.

Growl!

His stomach growled loudly, and he became greatly agitated. "Meat, I want meat, I must hunt something."

Ferocity took control of him for a moment, an intense killing intent emanated from him, he raised his head and looked at the clear sky, for the first time since coming to this world, the urge to howl loudly came over him.

’No, I cannot do this, howling may attract other monsters to my location.’ He lowered his head and calmed himself with difficulty.

’Truly, what is happening to me? Why do I feel as though my instincts as a wolf are trying to take control of me? I cannot suppress my emotions, and even the "Primal Predator" bloodline which turns me into an emotionless piece of ice is not helping.’

He furrowed his brows, and no matter how hard he tried he could not find a logical explanation for what was happening to him, no, to be more precise, he did have a vague idea about the reason for this conflict in his emotions, for his instincts had told him that today was different from the rest of the days, but he did not know what was special about it.

’This is not good, whatever is happening to me, I cannot lose my rationality in this forest,That’s practically suicide, it is better that I find prey quickly, then return to my den before I become even more reckless and unhinged.’

Without wasting any more time, he used the "Tracking" skill he had recently obtained, and searched for the tracks and scents that monsters leave behind.

After the bitter experience he went through when he fell for the temptation of the spider’s eyes or their pulling force, or whatever that was exactly, he discovered that he was able to acquire new Skills and all he had to do was push his abilities, whether physical or mental, until they broke through their limits.

Of course, this was nothing more than a conclusion of his, and to confirm its validity, he intensified the use of his tracking and searching abilities over the past days, fortunately he was right, for in the end these abilities evolved into the "Tracking" skill.

This new skill benefited him greatly, for it reduced the time he needed to find prey by about half, and he also became able to determine the size and weight of monsters that had passed through a place with just a glance at their hoof tracks.

...

Within fifteen minutes he found some recent tracks, which he estimated belonged to a type of wild deer.

Without any hesitation he followed them, and after covering a distance of approximately a mile, he entered a new area of the forest that he had never reached before.

Normally he would have taken some time to explore the place before venturing deeper into it, but because of his intense impulsiveness today, he did not stop at all.

As he ventured deeper into the new area, he noticed that the deer’s scent had begun to fade, this was very strange, for its hoof tracks were still very clear.

’Something is not right, I am certain it passed through here just a few minutes ago, it is not reasonable for its scent to dissipate in this short time.’ Confusion filled his mind.

He sniffed the air deeply, and at that moment he realized something shocking. "The scents around me have disappeared? No, it is my sense of smell that has weakened greatly, how is this possible?"

His eyes widened a little, for his sense of smell at this moment was no different from that of an ordinary human, he activated his bloodline, and forcefully calmed his raging instincts.

He examined his surroundings with greater caution, and at that moment he saw a strange flower nearby, he would not have paid it any attention, had it not been for the "Evaluation" skill which displayed some interesting information about it.

[ Nullscent Flower — Rare ]

’A rare flower, this is new.’ He walked slowly toward the flower, stood before it and looked at it with a kind of astonishment because of its beauty.

The flower’s color was a soothing sky blue, its shape resembled a lotus flower with some thin golden leaves in its center, and what was most remarkable was that it was solid and slightly transparent like glass.

He sniffed it, and found it completely scentless, yet inhaling it made him feel a little dizzy, as though it were a narcotic plant. fгeewebnovёl.com

’This is interesting.’ A small smile appeared on his face, and he felt satisfied at having found such a valuable element, the only unfortunate thing was that he did not know how to benefit from it.

Without any hesitation, he plucked the flower with the intention of placing it in the "Dimensional Storage", but the moment the flower separated from its stem, it exploded and turned into a shimmering mist. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"Hah, cough." Involuntarily Arthur inhaled the mist, and some of it entered his eyes, as though he had been attacked with tear gas, he began coughing frantically, his eyes turned red, and tears streamed from them heavily, and he also felt an agonizing pain in his head.

"Damn!" He quickly moved away from the mist, leaned against a nearby tree, and tried to regulate his breathing and calm himself.

His coughing fit did not stop and his pain did not disappear until after ten minutes, he let out a long sigh then looked at the shimmering mist that was still floating above the flower’s root, and at that moment his expression darkened. "Damned flower."

This situation truly angered him, he struck the tree beside him, and its leaves fell like rain, after that he continued tracking the deer’s prints, on his way, Arthur came across another Nullscent flower, but this time he did not touch it.

As he ventured deeper and deeper into the new area, the trees decreased and the number of dense shrubs around him increased, then in the end, he arrived at a place where many Nullscent flowers were present, which made his sense of smell completely useless.

The urge to tear them all apart came over him, but he did not dare do that, for despite his intense impulsiveness, he was still maintaining a little of his rationality, and also, he did not want to go through that painful experience again.

Suddenly, his ears moved, the sound of faint footsteps surrounding him reached him, and immediately he realized that he was surrounded by some kind of hostile creatures, many of them.
