Chapter 142: One At A Time

Desther and Lexie finally arrived in the treehouse some time later.

The leaves Desther used as the wall and bedding had already dried off, giving off a woody stench around the surrounding area.

This was not the first time that Lexie had seen the treehouse, but this was definitely the first time she had seen it up close.

Desther leapt and easily went inside the treehouse. He did not waste time and immediately took the bag containing the supplies and brought them down in front of Lexie.

Opening it up, he took a hoodie and a pair of pants and told Lexie to choose from the pile.

Lexie nodded her head and rummaged through them all. There were shorts and shirts available in the pile, but she ultimately chose a black hoodie and black pants like Desther.

There were also some bandages and first aid supplies in the bag, both of them picked up some to clean their bodies and wounds.

Desther turned around and went behind a thick tree to change into the hoodie and pants he pulled from the bag.

"You can go change up the treehouse." freēwēbnovel.com

A faint smile surfaced on Lexie’s lips upon hearing his suggestion. She nodded her head and leapt towards the treehouse with minimal effort.

Once inside, she noticed how it was made. The tree leaves that dried off still covered the walls and the bedding. Only a little light passes through from above, illuminating the inside like a bulb. Although the leaves had already dried off, she realized that the walls were still mostly intact, allowing little to no chance of peeking from both sides.

With that, worry about getting seen while changing disappeared from her mind. She no longer hesitated and took off the tube top she made earlier. She scanned her upper body for a bit, realizing that the burn marks from earlier had mostly begun to scab already. She reached out her hand to feel the wound on her back and realized that it was beginning to heal at a quick rate too.

She immediately cleaned herself with the wet wipes and disinfected her wounds with alcohol. After that, she used the bandage to cover her back and chest, doubling it as a tight bra.

Once done, she wore the black hoodie and immediately realized how loose it was for her size. She could not help but take a double look at the hoodie, realizing how cozy it was to actually wear one.

She took the collar and made a light sniff. The scent was surprisingly nice to her nose. She could not help but imagine if this was usually how Desther smells. A faint blush surfaced on her face, realizing that her thoughts were spiralling in the wrong direction.

A while later, Lexie was already done changing. She tied up her hair to a messy bun before leaping off from the treehouse.

When she landed on the ground, she realized that Desther was already there, waiting for her.

His gaze turned toward her, lingering on her face for a brief moment before looking away, acting as if nothing had happened.

A faint blush surfaced on her face as she inched closer toward him. She did not know why, but her heart actually fluttered upon feeling his gaze. It did not escape her attention that this has been happening a lot of times recently.

Getting rid of her thoughts, she asked, "So? What would be our next move?"

Desther turned his head toward her direction, staring at her gorgeous face once more.

Although she was the type of girl that attracts trouble and seemed to be a magnet for it, she was a girl or a woman that he absolutely didn’t want to get involved with.

Yet, despite all of that, he still found himself drawn toward her in one way or another.

His past had already forged and steeled his heart to one that is averse to emotion, one that avoids it, and one that wants to remain in obscurity.

He sighed inwardly, his thoughts spiraled out of control upon realizing the turmoil that he was feeling.

He could not deny the fact that she looked gorgeous in his hoodie with a messy bun, though.

"Same as what we discussed before. We part ways here. After this, I know you’ll be swarmed with a lot of questions, so you should prepare to answer them as well."

Lexie nodded her head, although they had already discussed this in advance, it still disappoints her a bit that they would go their own ways after this.

"I think the matter regarding your grade might blow off soon enough as well," Desther added upon hearing only silence from her.

Hearing that, Lexie nodded her head in understanding. That matter had actually disappeared from her mind, but she knew that it had already marinated enough.

As a matter of fact, she had already been contacted by the school, the government, and her family in regard to this matter.

Now with the Tier 3 Shadow Pawn incident, it would only be a matter of time before her real grade would be revealed and announced to the public.

With no phone as of this moment, though, she could not get any update from all fronts. She needed to return to the main base as soon as possible.

She just realized how she would be swarmed by a lot of things after this. However, she knew that this was essential. Nothing must be skipped.

She wanted not only real strength but also influence that rivals it. She had plans, and all were already in motion, one at a time.

"I’ll get going," she said with a straight face, preparing to turn around and return to the main base.

Desther nodded his head.

"Let’s get in touch."

He suddenly added before she could take a step away.

Lexie paused upon hearing that. A faint blush on her face as her tight expression was now replaced with a faint smile. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"Okay."

She replied gently, her body disappearing from Desther’s view a few moments later.

Sighing, Desther turned toward one direction and stated, "You can get out now!"
