Chapter 141: The Dangerous West
Desther closed his Profile Status and focused on what was ahead of him.
He looked over at Lexie and noticed that she might be checking her Profile Status as well.
Since he had earned a lot of experience points from killing that Shadow Pawn, it could only be expected that she had gained the same.
Just like him, she might have also leveled up twice. frёeωebɳovel.com
The bonus experience points for killing a monster way above one’s Tier could actually be rewarded. This was not something that he knew.
There was no announcement regarding it or any talks about it on the internet. He wondered if this was some kind of open secret that the upper echelon was trying to hide.
There were a lot of strong Awakened Professionals around the world; it was not impossible for someone to kill entities above their rank.
After all, Awakened Professionals had the ability to team up and beat the hell out of strong foes.
Just like how thousands of ants could kill an elephant, a thousand Tier 1 Awakened Professionals should also be capable of dealing with a Tier 3 foe with some sacrifice.
However, after thinking about it, Desther could understand why they would try to hide it.
After all, if they were announced to the public, a lot of people would surely try their luck and hunt an upper tier monster just for that bonus experience points. This was opposite to what the upper echelon wanted. After all, they always want to prioritize everyone’s safety in these hard times.
Speaking of safety, Desther hoped that there were no other people inside the one-kilometer radius of the explosion earlier. He knew that there were students that went to the valley as well.
He wondered if any of them had actually been caught up in that explosion.
Not that he would truly care if there were any. He was someone who always prioritized himself after all.
He turned toward Lexie and could not help but shake his head, getting rid of his distracting thoughts.
"What’s up?"
Lexie turned toward him, as if sensing his gaze. Although she was not a sensitive person, she could have sworn that Desther had been staring at her more frequently recently, not that she hated it, though.
"I’m just thinking about that monster, the Shadow Pawn."
Lexie tilted her head, wondering what he meant.
"You know, for such a strong monster to just be called a ’pawn’, isn’t that disturbing?"
Hearing his words, Lexie’s eyes could not help but constrict as realization struck her as well.
The monster’s name has never been random.
Those weak monsters will have weaker names, boss monsters inside a dungeon will have names befitting of their status, and so on.
For the Shadow Pawn to be called as such could only mean one thing.
It was merely a pawn and not a boss monster one would initially think of as such a strong monster.
And the mere thought of it was equally disturbing.
If a pawn were already that strong, then just how strong would the real soldiers, or even the king or queen behind it be?
"For a pawn to be here... don’t you think there could be others as well? Pawn’s after all, are numerous, right?"
Lexie frowned as thoughts ran amok in her mind. She had actually not considered it before. However, the moment Desther mentioned it, she also thought something was very unusual from the start.
Questions began to rise inside her head, whether she liked it or not.
How could it just be a mere pawn?
How did it end up here?
Why was it here in the first place?
Monsters of such Tier were no longer as simple as they seemed. They were now capable of thought, much more compared to monsters in the lower tier.
This could be seen in how the Shadow Pawn was able to counterattack effectively, try to ambush them repeatedly, and know when to self-destruct for mutual destruction.
Questions that could not be answered in the short time with so few clues and so little time.
Desther’s mind was filled with the same question.
A tier 3 monster, under the rule of someone, was obviously not a good sign. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
The Veldora Woods was just a few kilometers away from Radiant City. For a monster to have sneaked up in here, he wondered what was truly going on on the front lines as of this moment.
As of this moment, only the Sierra Madre area truly remains a safe place in the Philippines. The north was where metropolitans rose and were now heavily infested with monsters. The south was the same, with the Visayas and Mindanao regions becoming a no man’s land.
The east was where the Pacific Ocean lies; humongous monsters exist along with the recurring typhoons, where if not for the fact that the Sierra Madre’s trees had grown taller and firmer after the apocalypse, those typhoons would have already destroyed the safe sanctuaries they painstakingly built, like Radian City.
In the very west was where the worst of it all lies. A strong monster has been wreaking havoc with all its minions trying to sweep through all the Philippines with its army. The West Philippine Sea and the South China Sea, bordering each other, were home to those monsters that even the best Awakened Professionals in the world did not dare to face.
It was those same monsters that were inching their way forward on the Philippine Archipelago aggressively.
Although he did not know the real situation, he knew that the West was where the so-called frontline lay.
The Philippine Army had been deployed and was doing their best to defend the country, not allowing any of them to get past Sierra Madre, where most cities were built.
The Shadow Pawn they had fought was obviously an anomaly.
Since dungeons that contain Tier 3 and above monsters were extremely huge and could be easily detected.
That could only mean that the Shadow Pawncould not have come out from a new dungeon nearby.
That Shadow Pawn must have come and sneaked all the way here from the front lines.
Lexie and Desther looked at each other and arrived at the same conclusion.
