Chapter 1113: Chapter 1084: Master and Servant
At the same time, two people received a delivery, an unnamed package!
Nicholas had the package he had just received that morning in his pocket—a small USB drive. Walking through the ruins, he occasionally bent down to avoid burnt or bomb-damaged wooden beams and steel structures. Falling debris left his expensive clothes covered in gray dust. His love for black made him ill-suited for wearing all black in a place like this. Murphy, following behind him, mumbled—not out of concern for this young master, but out of pity for the coat.
"Murphy, a coat can still be bought. Stop worrying about those lifeless things behind my back. I’m the one who pays your salary!" Nicholas teased Murphy playfully.
"Yes, Young Master! But the clothes on you were a limited edition that was just delivered last night, and now you’ve used them for less than ten minutes and are ready to throw them in the trash!"
"Ah, am I that wasteful?"
As they talked, they reached the center of the ruins. Blood that hadn’t been cleaned properly had already coagulated on the ground. No bodies were found, likely taken by the police for processing. Nicholas thought bitterly that Meisai had probably become a real morgue by now, and these people had no shortage of such firefights.
"Murphy, why do you think there is such a commotion between Lucchesi and Genovis? I should have separately warned both of them not to fall into others’ traps!" His tone was calm, as if nothing was wrong.
"Why can’t I hear any worry in your voice? I see, Young Master, you’re clearly hoping those two old guys will fight." There were no outsiders around, so Murphy became bolder, not as formal and respectful as he was at Joseph’s Place #13.
"Heh!" Nicholas smiled faintly. "Them fighting to the death doesn’t really hurt me. The issue with the arms does seem a bit tricky. Mr. Su has pressed me several times for a verdict, but I’m not in such a hurry. That drug lord’s haste to make a move seems suspicious to me."
"You mean there’s a problem with his goods?" Murphy asked.
"Oh, not his goods, but the ship unloading them can’t stay at sea for too long." The cargo ship was indeed a good hiding spot offshore, but the season’s weather was unsatisfactory, and being offshore drew attention from various countries. The longer it stayed, the more suspicious it looked.
Nicholas crouched before a table reduced to two legs and pulled out some scraps of paper from underneath, brushing off the dust to reveal green patterns. "Murphy, guess what this is?" The paper scraps, about the size of half a pinky, were charred and curled, leaving only a small, decipherable section.
"A 100-dollar bill!"
"That’s not the point!" Nicholas blew away the paper scraps in his hand. "There was a deal here!" His ice-blue pupils contracted slightly.
"This is Lucchesi’s territory!"
"Murphy, you’re wrong again!" Seeing his young master’s blue eyes darken, Murphy abandoned any thought of offering any relief. His master never knew how to be relaxed.
Murphy sighed, feeling at thirty, he was as old as a sixty or seventy-year-old man. "Young Master is thinking about what Lucchesi was trading at that time and with whom. If Mr. Genovis instigated this firefight, most of the family elders would deduce reasons based on past events, and Genovis would surely retaliate against Lucchesi. Jessica’s death only accelerated the conflict between the two families, but examining closely, there are many irreconcilable contradictions and motives. Young Master isn’t worried about these but those behind-the-scene instigators."
Nicholas took a few more steps forward, pretending to move around aimlessly, but every corner of these ruins couldn’t escape his ice-blue eyes. "What I care more about than the instigators is his betrayal."
"In addition to the firefight between Mr. Genovis and Mr. Lucchesi, there was a large explosion at another residence. Young Master, perhaps you should visit the heir of the Xiao Family." Murphy suddenly changed the topic, making Nicholas pause.
"The heir of the Xiao Family? Xiao Lin? Murphy, is there any special reason?"
"Does Young Master truly trust that Shao Weihua, or is it because of the Young Madame?"
"Ah!" Nicholas nodded. The ruins left almost no clues, being thoroughly destroyed. "Where is Raphael now?"
"Still recovering!"
"Have him deliver a few orders for me. If anyone disobeys or has objections, kill them!" Nicholas, hands in his pockets, walked out of the ruins and was met by Rochester, frowning as he entered. "Good morning, Inspector!"
"You..." Clearly not expecting to encounter the feared Godfather here, Rochester’s face instinctively tensed.
"I’ll trouble you!"
Murphy followed Nicholas towards the car parked to the side, leaving Rochester, still dazed, to stand in place. He was still mulling over the meaning of ’trouble you,’ when suddenly it seemed he remembered something and rushed to Nicholas’s car, but it was too late. "Ah!" He frustratingly hit his own thigh; he really didn’t want to go to Joseph’s Place #13!
"Young Master!"
"To the hospital, we need to check on Augusto; he seems badly injured!"
Saint Mary Hospital is the largest and best-equipped hospital in Palermo. The tenth floor was surrounded by people who didn’t look like good guys, making the doctors and nurses nervous. As Nicholas stepped out of the elevator, he was annoyed by this sight. Murphy stepped out first, whispered a few words to someone, and the corridor was instantly cleared.
Nicholas stood before the unconscious Augusto, tubes all over his body, the monitor’s indices indicating the meaning of his life. "Murphy, are there any weapons that can make someone like this?"
"No!"
"So, my eyes must be playing tricks?" Looking at Augusto’s external injuries, Nicholas asked, bewildered. "Is there anyone left who can talk?"
"Young Master!" Murphy reminded Nicholas that now wasn’t the time for impulsive actions, but such reminders seemed unable to stop whatever his young master wanted to do. So, he hurriedly followed his master’s footsteps out of the hospital. (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to visit Qidian.com to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets.
