Chapter 1858: Dragon’s Head
The razor-sharp forces of space and time tore through everything around him.
Even Sein, whose body had been tempered, felt searing pain.
Elemental blood seeped from his skin.
New cracks began to spread across his demonic lawful body.
The closer he drew to the heart of the shattered portal, the more intense the pain became.
As Sein rapidly calculated the limits of his endurance against the distance remaining, a grim conclusion hit him....
He would not even make it inside. The chaotic spatial forces would rip him apart first, reducing him to nothing but a cloud of blood mist.
And that was not even considering what might be waiting on the other side.
This was the price of a desperate gamble. Too many unknowns, too little time to think.
Behind him, the deadly light beam was closing in fast.
Facing the fully charged strike of a Rank Six vizier, Fermera spread her metallic wings.
Brilliant wings of light unfurled from them, layering over one another to shield her back. Then she stepped forward, wrapping her arms around Sein and Tourmaline and taking the attack head-on.
But caught between the collapsing space ahead and the deadly assault behind, how long could she last?
The space-time tearing alone was already a deadly threat to her.
At that critical moment, Tourmaline transformed again.
In an instant, she turned into her dragon turtle form. With her hardened shell, she blocked the surging spatial forces head-on.
It was not that her defenses could endure what even Rank Six beings struggled against. Rather, her shell seemed able to counter and disperse the corrosive effects of the space-time distortion itself.
The deadly light beam from behind was a different matter entirely. Tourmaline could not stop that, so Fermera still had to bear the brunt of it.
Still, the sudden drop in pressure from the front made Sein’s eyes widen.
Then he saw it—the faint strain on Tourmaline’s face, the subtle tremor running through her scales. He understood at once what she was enduring.
Gently holding her dragon head, Sein poured a mouthful of Golden Silver Potion between her teeth.
The effect was immediate. Even a quarter dose was close to her limit, but it noticeably eased the pain etched across her expression.
Sein took a mouthful himself.
As the shattered portal loomed closer and closer, he could only hope the other side was not some perilous place that could kill even law-wielding beings.
“Sein, this really hurts. It hurts way more than when you gave me a shot.” Tourmaline rubbed her dragon horn against Sein’s demonic body as she spoke.
She had not fully revealed her true form. If she had, her massive size would have exposed her to far greater space-time pressure.
In her current state, she was roughly the same size as Sein in his demonic lawful body.
Sein reached out and touched the cracked scales along her neck.
Dragon blood kept seeping out, staining his hand.
“I’ll never let you go through something like this again next time,” he said softly.
Leaning closer to her head, he added, “I will protect you.”
“Mhm,” Tourmaline answered softly. A faint green glow erupted from her body.
Under the relentless surge of deadly light from behind, the dragon turtle, demon, mecha, and angel were finally swallowed by the shattered portal and disappeared.
All that remained was pale golden dragon blood scattered through space, demonic blood still burning with Ashen Flame, fragments of broken metal, and lingering traces of death energy.
They were the only proof of what had just happened.
“Damn it...” the Rank Six vizier growled under his breath.
A strong aura of death leaked from the gaps in his bandages and from his mouth.
If not for the shattered portal ahead and the fact that the surrounding space-time had grown even more chaotic and unstable after the repeated impacts, he would have forced his way through to pursue them.
It made no sense that Sein and the others had gone through, yet he could not.
“Khima, go take a closer look,” the Rank Six vizier ordered.
The Rank Six monster beside him clearly had no desire to approach the shattered portal, but it had no choice.
Grinding its teeth, the crescent-horned beast slowly advanced.
It did not even make it a third of the way when a violent surge of spatial tremors swept over it, far stronger than before, ripping scales clean off its body.
The creature let out a pained roar as blood poured from its wounds.
After several failed attempts, it finally retreated.
By now, the area had become completely deserted. The violent spatial turbulence and the high-level energy clashes had turned it into a forbidden zone for low-level lifeforms.
Consumed by rage, the Rank Six vizier unleashed a barrage of full-powered attacks at the shattered portal.
Even if those attacks could not pass through the portal to reach Sein and the others, they at least gave the vizier a way to vent his frustration.
Before long, under his relentless bombardment, the fragile portal finally began to collapse.
As for Sein and Tourmaline, they were already long gone.
With no way to vent his anger any further, the Rank Six vizier gradually calmed down and signaled for the two monsters to follow him.
According to the orders of the Tenth Pharaoh, the Amenkha Empire’s elite legions were not required to stay and fight to the end.
A large-scale teleportation array had already been prepared at the center of the star domain to facilitate a full retreat.
The Gallant Federation truly had deep pockets!
As ship after ship delivered energy crystals, the vizier found himself far more interested in conquering the federation than dealing with the Magus Civilization.
However, his signal did not seem to reach the two Rank Six monsters.
When they showed no sign of moving, the vizier frowned and turned back.
The violent spatial disturbances in the area had interfered with his perception.
Only then did he notice that, not far behind him, stood a Rank Four violet-golden dragon and a Rank Five female mage in a black robe.
He recognized both of them.
Earlier, in his rush to chase Sein and Tourmaline, the Rank Six vizier had not bothered dealing with them and had brushed them aside without a second thought. He had not expected them to appear before him again.
Just as he was about to vent his pent-up anger on the two ignorant beings from the Magus Civilization, a massive dragon’s head tore through the black mist and warped space, appearing right in front of him.
The creature resembled Tourmaline, but was far more majestic—his long whiskers coiling through the air, its presence overwhelming.
This single dragon head was hundreds of times larger than Tourmaline’s body before she entered the portal!
And if this was just the head, then the true body hidden behind the mist and spatial distortions had to be unimaginably massive!
The creature’s gaze locked onto the Rank Six vizier.
He had clearly sensed the faint traces of dragon blood lingering in the surrounding space.
His eyes slowly turned crimson. Then he opened its jaws and unleashed a thunderous roar at the vizier and the two monsters behind him.
ROAR!
