Chapter 294: Chapter 294: Showing Up at the Door

It was Su Shengguo at the door.

For over a month, Su Shengguo had been seething with a resentment that he couldn’t swallow or spit out. He was convinced that he had lost his job because of Su Qing.

Su Shengguo felt deeply wronged. Last year, he had indeed been planning to find an opportunity to deal with Su Qing after he secured a way out of the food factory. However, when Su Qing showed her teeth during the New Year, he dropped the idea entirely. All he wanted was to quickly leave the factory, cut ties with her completely, and live out his days in peace.

But who would have known? This year, he finally found an opening and, with great difficulty, transferred to the textile factory. He hadn’t even warmed his seat yet before he was fired. Worse, he didn’t dare protest the reason for his dismissal, otherwise he might end up in a police station.

’Whose handiwork was this?’

Su Shengguo felt it was so obvious he could have figured it out with his big toe—it had to be related to Su Qing. He seethed with hatred. He’d already made a point to stay far away from her, so why wouldn’t Su Qing just let him be? So what if he had been an indifferent bystander and pocketed some money and things from her in previous years?

’Was it really necessary to hold such a grudge? It’s not like Su Qing is struggling now, so why can’t she just let it go? She actually managed to get my job taken away.’

Five hundred yuan! A job he had paid five hundred yuan for was gone, just like that. It would be a miracle if Su Shengguo took this lying down.

In any case, now that his job was gone, Su Shengguo felt he had nothing left to lose. Fueled by this and his simmering resentment, he lost control the moment he heard Su Qing was back and rushed over to bang on her gate.

Su Qing heard the knocking and couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. She went to open the courtyard gate and saw Su Shengguo standing outside, his own eyebrows bristling as he glared at her furiously.

Before Su Qing could speak, Su Shengguo roared, "Su Qing, you’ve gone too far! What did I ever do to you? You actually found someone to get rid of my job! Do you have any respect for me, your uncle?"

Su Qing raised an eyebrow and said sarcastically, "Oh, Uncle, you lost your job? What wonderful news! I’ll have to go buy a couple strings of firecrackers tomorrow to celebrate properly."

"You!" Su Shengguo was so enraged by Su Qing’s words he nearly fell over backward. He pointed at her and bellowed, "So it was you who ruined my job!"

"What dog eyes did you see that with?" Su Qing scoffed.

Without thinking, Su Shengguo retorted, "I saw it with both my eyes."

"HAHAHAHAHA!"

Many villagers had seen Su Qing return, so when Su Shengguo started banging on her door, a large crowd gathered. They were partly curious and partly there to support Su Qing.

Hearing Su Shengguo’s words, the crowd burst out laughing. One villager chuckled and said, "Old Su’s eldest, so your eyes are dog eyes! This is the first we’re hearing of it."

"All of you, shut up!" Su Shengguo grew even angrier. He pointed a trembling finger at Su Qing. "You damn girl, I’m your uncle!"

Su Qing slapped Su Shengguo’s hand away. "So what? If you dare to provoke me, I’ll hit you all the same. I don’t care who you are. Why don’t you take a good look at yourself? Are you even worthy of being my uncle?"

Su Shengguo gritted his teeth and said, "Enough with that nonsense. Su Qing, you ruined my job. Today, you’re either going to compensate me with a new job, or you’re giving me back that five hundred yuan."

"Dad, and the scar-healing powder!" Su Mei added, pushing her way out of the crowd to join Su Shengguo.

Su Qing turned to look at Su Mei and saw the right side of her cousin’s face tightly wrapped in gauze. It covered a large area, and the injury looked serious. Not that it had anything to do with her. Su Qing rolled her eyes at Su Mei, then scanned the crowd. She saw that nearly everyone from the Old Su Family was there, except for Su Lifeng and Su Lihui. All of them were glaring at her furiously.

However, it was clear that apart from Su Shengguo and Su Mei, the others didn’t dare to step forward. Old Su, in particular, had a look of obvious apprehension on her face.

Seeing Su Qing ignore her, Su Mei fumed, "Su Qing, you owe us this! If it weren’t for you, our family wouldn’t be in this situation, and my wonderful marriage prospect was ruined because of you!"

Su Mei was absolutely furious. The day after her dad lost his job, Wu Tao had broken up with her. He said his was a family of factory workers and he absolutely could not marry a village girl. She had cried for three days and tried repeatedly to reconcile with him, but Wu Tao completely ignored her. Now her face was ruined, too. Forget Wu Tao; she was afraid even an ordinary farmer wouldn’t want her now.

’I have to heal my face, and Su Qing has the powder for it!’ A crazed glint flashed in Su Mei’s eyes as she stared at Su Qing’s flawless left cheek.

After hearing Su Mei’s words, Su Qing let out a cold laugh. "What kind of joke are you telling? What does your family’s situation have to do with me? You want to pin this on me? No way."

With that, Su Qing scanned the other members of the Old Su Family hiding in the crowd. "Anyone else want to settle scores? Come on out together. Don’t just trickle out one by one. Let’s handle this all at once."

Settle it?

How would she settle it?

It wasn’t just the Old Su Family; even the villagers in the crowd started whispering amongst themselves, wondering how Su Qing planned to handle the day’s events.

Old Su stood with a wooden expression and said nothing. Su Shengli had no intention of moving forward at all; he clutched his injured arm and leaned against Old Su, clearly planning to stay out of it.

Zheng Erlian and Su Lidong, on the other hand, looked eager to jump in. In the end, the two of them stepped forward. Zheng Erlian even called out to Old Su and Su Shengli, "Ma, Shengli, come on out and say something!"

Old Su and Su Shengli still didn’t move. Zheng Erlian said angrily, "Fine! Ma, Su Shengli, you just stand by and watch. But when our family gets compensation later, don’t you dare shamelessly ask for a cut."

Hearing Zheng Erlian’s words, Su Qing couldn’t help but chuckle. ’They sure are dreaming big.’

"So, it’s settled? Just the four of you are here to settle scores with me?" Su Qing said with a small smile.

Zheng Erlian glared at Su Qing angrily. "Su Qing, the things you’ve done are absolutely wicked! Aren’t you afraid of karmic retribution?"

"You all aren’t afraid, so what do I have to be afraid of?" Su Qing couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

Su Mei fumed, "Su Qing, today you have to return the five hundred yuan you owe my dad, and give us that scar-healing powder! On top of that, you need to give our family some compensation. We won’t ask for much, just another five hundred."

"Whoa!" The villagers’ eyes went wide when they heard this. A thousand yuan! They really had the gall to ask. And that powder wasn’t cheap, either.

Su Qing gave Su Mei a beaming smile. Reaching toward the gate, she used it for cover as she produced a thin whip, seemingly from thin air. She lashed out at the group of four. "Such beautiful dreams, every last one of you. Since you’re all so shameless, allow me to give you a proper welcome."
