Su Qing quickly asked, "Aunt Fu, did something happen?"
’Su Qing was a bit curious. It had been a full two months since she left with Li Aiguo. The only people in the village she had a feud with were the Old Su Family. Could they be the ones looking to cause trouble for her?’
’Oh, wait, there was also Pang Xiaofang.’
’Speaking of feuds, Pang Xiaofang certainly counted. However, Pang Xiaofang had been locked up over that last incident, and Wang Xuehong, too ashamed to show her face, had been away from the village this whole time. But Su Qing knew Wang Xuehong wasn’t the type to confuse right and wrong; she wouldn’t transfer her anger about Pang Xiaofang’s situation onto her. Could it be that Pang Xiaofang had returned to the village?’
’All in all, there were only two families in the village she had issues with. She didn’t know which one was targeting her, but no matter which one it was, Su Qing wasn’t afraid.’
’At this thought, Su Qing felt her hands itch for a fight. It would be perfect if they came looking for trouble; she’d have a perfectly valid reason to teach them a lesson out in the open.’
"It’s your grandmother’s family," Fu Yuzhen said quickly. "A lot has happened these past two months. I heard they’re blaming you for all of it and are waiting for you to come back to settle the score. A whole family ganging up on one young girl... they’re truly shameless. But don’t you worry. Uncle Pan and I will help you, and you have the village leader. We absolutely won’t let them bully you."
Hearing this, Su Qing’s curiosity was piqued. "Aunt Fu, what happened to them?" she asked eagerly.
Su Qing’s eyes sparkled, the very picture of someone who loved watching drama and didn’t mind if it got out of hand. Fu Yuzhen stared for a second, then couldn’t help but laugh. "You, child. You really are carefree."
With that, Fu Yuzhen started telling Su Qing what had been happening with the Old Su Family.
"Your eldest uncle lost his job," Fu Yuzhen said. "He’d been trying to leave the food factory for a while, mostly because he was afraid I’d have someone trip him up. Nothing happened for a long time, but then he finally found a connection and managed to transfer to the textile factory. But who would’ve thought? He was fired after working there for little more than half a month. They say it involved some bribery or something. Anyway, in the end, your uncle’s job is gone for good. Once the job was gone, he obviously couldn’t live in the factory dormitory anymore, so he had no choice but to return to Lihua Village."
Fu Yuzhen clearly felt a sense of satisfaction talking about Su Shengguo losing his job.
Su Qing found it satisfying as well. "I wonder what Bodhisattva performed this good deed."
Fu Yuzhen laughed. "I honestly don’t know. Your uncle wanted to cause a scene after losing his job, but the factory leaders told him if he made a fuss, they’d report him to the police directly. Bribery can land you in prison. How could he dare make a scene then? He just tucked his tail between his legs and scurried off."
Su Qing laughed. "Serves him right."
Fu Yuzhen added, "And there’s one more thing. Your grandfather is dead."
"What!" Su Qing was stunned for a moment. ’Old Su is dead? That shouldn’t be possible. I knew he was in excellent health, even better than his wife. How could he have died so suddenly?’ "Was there an accident?"
"It was your third uncle’s ex-wife," Fu Yuzhen explained. "You know how your third uncle divorced her? Well, they kicked her out of the Old Su Family home. But who would’ve guessed, a while back she suddenly burst into their house with a knife, dead set on hacking your grandmother to pieces. In a moment of panic, your grandmother shoved your grandfather in front of her. The knife came down right on his head. He died on the spot."
Su Qing’s eyes widened. ’Well, damn. Things have certainly been dramatic. So much has happened in just two months.’
"And then?"
"Then she was subdued and taken into custody. They say she’s going to get a bullet for it," Fu Yuzhen said. "During the whole thing, your grandfather died, and two or three other members of the Old Su Family were slashed. Your third uncle got hit in the arm, and I hear he won’t be able to use it properly anymore. And your cousin, she was slashed across the face. It was apparently quite deep; her face is ruined."
As she spoke, Fu Yuzhen looked at Su Qing’s face. ’Everyone saw how terrible the scar on this girl’s left cheek used to be,’ she thought. ’Now that it’s healed, the Old Su Family probably wants that powder, too.’
After listening to Fu Yuzhen, Su Qing nodded. "Sounds like the Old Su Family has been pretty unlucky lately."
’But why did it make her so happy?’
’And if you’re happy, you should show it.’ The corners of Su Qing’s mouth lifted into a smile she couldn’t suppress.
’HAHAHAHAHA, I’m just so happy! I bet the girl who’s already gone would be thrilled to know this, too.’
"You can say that again," Fu Yuzhen said with a nod. "But they’re pinning the blame for all this on you now, and they’re saying they’re going to settle the score. You should stay with me tonight. Tomorrow, Uncle Pan and I will go back to the village with you."
"There’s no need," Su Qing said with a small smile. "Don’t worry, Aunt Fu. I can handle them on my own."
"No way. You’re all alone. How can you be a match for that entire family?" Fu Yuzhen was worried. With Su Shengguo and his family back in the village now, there were so many of them. There was no way Fu Yuzhen could rest easy.
"Really, it’s fine." Su Qing didn’t want Fu Yuzhen to get involved; she could handle these minor issues on her own. "Besides, there’s still the village leader. They wouldn’t dare do anything too reckless."
Fu Yuzhen tried to persuade her for a long time, and when she saw Su Qing was insistent on returning alone, she even offered to take leave from work right away to go with her. But Su Qing managed to talk her out of it with great difficulty. Finally, Fu Yuzhen had no choice but to say, "If that shameless bunch from the Old Su Family comes looking for trouble, you remember to go to the village leader, you hear? Uncle Pan and I will come see you tomorrow."
"Don’t worry, Aunt Fu. I’ll be fine, really. I’m pretty good at defending myself now," Su Qing replied with a smile. She then said her goodbyes to Fu Yuzhen and headed back to Lihua Village.
Now that she knew about the Old Su Family’s situation, Su Qing had no intention of sneaking back into the village. A confrontation was bound to happen sooner or later. Besides, they were next-door neighbors; the Old Su Family would surely hear any commotion.
Sure enough, Su Qing had barely been in her courtyard for a minute when someone started pounding on the gate. "Su Qing! Get out here!"
