Chapter 269: Chapter 269: What’s Your Mother’s Name?
No one expected Mrs. Li to suddenly faint.
Su Qing hurried forward to help Li Huan support Mrs. Li. At the same time, she secretly sent a large stream of green mist toward the older woman. ’She came all this way to visit Mom; I can’t let anything happen to her in this room.’
Gu Xinsheng and Shang Yuqi also rushed over to help, laying Mrs. Li on the companion bed to the side. Li Wan’s was a private room with pleasant accommodations, including a dedicated companion bed where Su Qing had been resting these past few days while staying with her mother.
"I’ll go get a doctor," Gu Xinsheng said, turning to leave. Since she had fainted so unexpectedly, they definitely needed a doctor to see what was wrong.
"No, don’t." Soothed by Su Qing’s green mist, Mrs. Li quickly came to. Hearing Gu Xinsheng, she said hurriedly, "I’m fine."
"Ma’am, it’s still best to have a doctor take a look," Gu Xinsheng said quickly when he saw that Mrs. Li was awake.
"No, no need." As Mrs. Li spoke, she looked toward the oblivious Li Wan on the hospital bed, her eyes instantly filling with tears. The moment she had entered the room, the instant she saw the woman on the bed, she felt as if her heart had been dealt a heavy blow. A sudden, sharp pain had shot through her, and then she had fainted.
"Mom, please, let the doctor take a look, just to be safe. We don’t know why you suddenly fainted," Shang Yuqi urged.
"Yes, Grandma, let the doctor take a look," Li Huan chimed in.
Mrs. Li shook her head, insisting she didn’t need a doctor and tried to get up.
Shang Yuqi had no choice but to help Mrs. Li sit up. As Mrs. Li looked at Li Wan on the bed, she felt another pang in her heart. For some inexplicable reason, the sight of this woman on the hospital bed made her heart ache.
"Su Qing, dear, is this your mother?" Mrs. Li asked, looking at Su Qing.
"Yes." Su Qing nodded. "This is my mother."
"What’s your mother’s name?" Mrs. Li asked suddenly.
"Li Wan," Su Qing said, pursing her lips while carefully observing Mrs. Li’s reaction.
Standing to the side, a completely oblivious Li Huan said in surprise, "Su Qing, your mom’s last name is Li, too?"
Shang Yuqi, however, drew in a sharp breath. "Your mother’s name is Li Wan? Which ’Wan’? The one from the word for ’graceful’? Where is your mother from?"
Shang Yuqi couldn’t help but clutch her chest. ’It can’t be such a coincidence, can it?’
Su Qing smiled faintly. "My mother is from Jia City."
"Jia City..." Shang Yuqi murmured. Seeing Mrs. Li about to fall again, she quickly steadied her and said, "Mom, don’t get agitated."
Mrs. Li clenched her fists. ’Even without proof, I feel my intuition can’t be wrong. But now isn’t the time to discuss this. It seems some things really need a thorough investigation.’ Looking at Li Wan with compassion, she asked, "What illness does your mother have? And the injuries on her face... what happened to her?"
"That’s a long story," Su Qing said softly. "Besides, it’s a family matter, so it’s not convenient to talk about."
Mrs. Li nodded, sighed softly, and then asked, "Do you have an uncle named Li Aiguo?"
"Yes, not only do I have an uncle named Li Aiguo, but I also have an aunt named Li Yuan. I’ve just never met this aunt." Su Qing had a vague guess about what was happening, so she didn’t shy away from saying it.
"What? Su Qing, your aunt’s name is Li Yuan?" Hearing this, Li Huan’s eyes widened in disbelief as she spoke.
’This is too much of a coincidence!’
After hearing Su Qing’s words, Mrs. Li felt dizzy again. Su Qing hurried forward to gently support her, taking the opportunity to send over some more green mist.
As Su Qing supported her, Mrs. Li felt a cool current seem to pass through her, making her body feel lighter. She didn’t know the reason for this, but she felt even more fondly toward Su Qing.
"Good child, good child!" Mrs. Li patted Su Qing’s hand gently, took a deep breath, and said, "I’m not feeling well today. I’ll come to see your mother another day. She’ll be staying in this hospital, right?"
"Yes, my mother is being treated here," Su Qing nodded.
"Good, good." Mrs. Li gently patted Su Qing’s hand again, then turned to look at Gu Xinsheng. ’I saw it clearly just now,’ she thought. ’This man’s feelings for Li Wan are anything but ordinary.’ She nodded at Gu Xinsheng. "We’ll be heading back for today. You can keep the fruit."
"Ma’am, you should still see a doctor," Gu Xinsheng said, seeing that Mrs. Li still seemed unwell.
"No, no need." Mrs. Li glanced at Li Wan again, said her goodbyes to Su Qing and Gu Xinsheng, and prepared to leave.
Li Huan was a bit dazed, but she vaguely felt that something significant had just happened. She told Su Qing she would be back later, then followed the others out.
Once the three generations of the Li family had left the room, Gu Xinsheng frowned and said to Su Qing, "Xiao Qing, this Li family..."
Su Qing pursed her lips. "Uncle Gu, this must be the Li family you were investigating. I expect things are about to get lively."
Su Qing narrowed her eyes slightly. ’I’m afraid this "liveliness" isn’t something Li Aiguo and Li Yuan would be happy to see.’
Gu Xinsheng nodded. "Alright, I understand. Don’t worry, I’ll protect you and your mother. No one is going to bully you, no matter who they are."
’Gu Xinsheng was starting to piece things together. This is probably going to be a huge drama, a classic case of a switched identity. He didn’t know the Li family; if they were friendly, great. But if they were hostile toward Su Qing and Li Wan, he wouldn’t stand for it. So what if they were powerful? Worst case, he’d just take the two of them back to Guang City. No matter what, he would protect Li Wan and her daughter.’
Su Qing smiled. "Uncle Gu, there’s no need to be so tense. We don’t know the specifics of the situation yet. If they really are my mother’s relatives, I can’t be the one to decide whether she acknowledges them or not. Everything has to wait until my mother wakes up. It’s her decision to make; no one else has the right to choose for her."
"Right, right." Gu Xinsheng nodded quickly, then looked worriedly at Li Wan and sighed. "I just don’t know if your mother will ever have the chance to wake up."
Even Doctor Huo had said there wasn’t much hope. Gu Xinsheng felt a sense of unease, wondering if Li Wan could be one of the lucky few.
"My mother will definitely wake up," Su Qing said with conviction. ’With my green mist, it’s not a problem at all.’
It seemed Su Qing’s certainty was infectious. He smiled and said, "You’re right. Your mother will definitely get better."
