Chapter 268: Chapter 268: Fainted

Upon hearing this, Shang Yuqi quickly asked, "Doctor Huo, is there really no safe way to remove the shrapnel from my mother-in-law’s head?"

Li Huan, who was standing to the side, frowned worriedly when she heard Huo Yafeng. She held onto Mrs. Li’s arm. ’If the surgical risk is this high, it would be better to stick with conservative treatment, just as Doctor Huo said.’

Mrs. Li, however, was very calm. She gently patted Li Huan’s arm and smiled. "It’s alright."

It had been decades. Aside from the headaches, she had no other symptoms. So, Mrs. Li wasn’t particularly bothered about whether the shrapnel in her head could be removed. ’It would be great if it can be taken out, but if not, I’ll just let it be.’

Huo Yafeng shook his head. "Under current medical conditions, the risk of surgery is indeed very high. However, I can prescribe some medication. If she gets a headache, she can take these to alleviate the pain."

Huo Yafeng’s words left Shang Yuqi a little disappointed. She had been hoping that he could eliminate this hidden danger. However, upon hearing that he could help alleviate the headaches, she quickly said, "Okay, Doctor Huo. Please write the prescription for us."

’Even if surgery isn’t an option, relieving the headaches is still a good thing.’ Over the years, Shang Yuqi and Mrs. Li had become as close as mother and daughter, and Shang Yuqi was the one most concerned about Mrs. Li’s health.

Huo Yafeng nodded, wrote a prescription, and handed it to Shang Yuqi. He then added, "Actually, I suggest that if you can find a good traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, you could also consult them. They might have a better solution."

Shang Yuqi sighed. "We have seen traditional Chinese medicine doctors before. The problem is that some of the medicinal herbs are hard to find. They require a very specific age, and you just can’t find them on the market."

Huo Yafeng nodded and said, "Have her take this medicine for now. If she feels any discomfort, feel free to come see me anytime."

"Okay, thank you, Doctor Huo."

After thanking Doctor Huo, the three of them left his office.

"Mom, let’s start with this medicine. Maybe in a little while, more advanced surgical options will be available," Shang Yuqi said quickly, afraid Mrs. Li would be disappointed.

"It’s nothing. It’s been so many years, I’ve long since made my peace with it. You, on the other hand, worry too much. It’s alright." Mrs. Li actually comforted Shang Yuqi in return. She knew that her eldest daughter-in-law had an excellent relationship with her and was genuinely worried about her health.

Mrs. Li’s thoughts, however, were still on Su Qing. After a moment of consideration, she said to Shang Yuqi, "Yuqi, go buy some fruit. Let’s go visit Su Qing’s mother. Since Su Qing is a friend of Huanhuan’s, and we know her mother is in the hospital, we should go see her."

Li Huan had the same idea. She was originally planning to take her mom and grandma home and then come back to visit Su Qing’s mother. Hearing Mrs. Li’s words, she quickly said, "I’ll go, I’ll go buy the fruit. Grandma, you and Mom go get the prescription filled. I’ll find you after I buy the fruit."

Meanwhile, not long after Su Qing and Gu Xinsheng returned to Li Wan’s hospital room, Li Wan woke up.

However, the awakened Li Wan just lay quietly in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. She didn’t speak or move, just remained still.

Both Su Qing and Gu Xinsheng felt their hearts ache watching her. Gu Xinsheng called out softly, "Li Wan, can you hear me?"

Li Wan didn’t stir, continuing to stare at the ceiling without a word.

Su Qing bit her lip. Since she had first seen Li Wan, her mother had woken up a few times. Su Qing had tried speaking to her, and Li Wan did seem to react to her voice.

And that small reaction was enough to prove that deep down, Li Wan remembered her daughter.

"Mom." Su Qing also went to Li Wan’s bedside and called out softly.

Hearing Su Qing’s voice, Li Wan woodenly turned her head to look at her. Although she didn’t speak or respond in any way, Su Qing could still feel a faint trace of happiness from her.

But it was this faint happiness that made Su Qing’s heart ache even more.

While Li Wan was awake, Su Qing and Gu Xinsheng spoke to her continuously in soft voices, talking about the past. Gu Xinsheng said the doctor had told him that this kind of interaction might give Li Wan a chance to fully regain consciousness.

Just then, a knock came from the door of the hospital room.

Su Qing went to open the door and saw Li Huan and the other two standing outside. Li Huan smiled and said to Su Qing, "Su Qing, we came to see your mom."

"Please, come in." Su Qing gestured for the three of them to enter the room.

"Su Qing, what’s wrong with your mother? Is it serious?" Shang Yuqi asked.

"She injured her head..." Before Su Qing could finish, Li Huan, who was beside her, suddenly cried out in alarm, "Grandma, what’s wrong?"

Su Qing whipped her head around to see that Mrs. Li had already fainted.
