Chapter 500: Chapter 500: Can’t You Just Hold Me and Sleep for One Night?
Evelyn quickly corrected herself, sensing the overwhelming anger rising in Caden Lockwood: "Husband."
She would accidentally shout the wrong name.
"Tonight... can we just sleep well?" Evelyn asked tentatively, her expression forlorn, "I’m really tired, no energy."
She wasn’t sure if such a reason could make him let her go and have a peaceful night’s sleep.
However, she really wasn’t in the mood to do anything with him.
Right now, she was very confused.
Thinking of Cecilia Lynch holding a knife, pondering if death could end it all, made Evelyn’s heart ache painfully.
Once, she and Cecilia were only worried about making a living.
Now, they no longer had those worries, yet their lives were worse than before.
Caden Lockwood propped his hands beside Evelyn’s ears, scrutinizing her back and forth.
His sharp gaze seemed to want to pry into the secrets hidden in her heart, making Evelyn involuntarily look away, not daring to meet Caden’s eyes.
He had an aura that made people want to beg and submit; if she wasn’t careful, she would be captured by him.
And it didn’t matter if she was captured, she absolutely couldn’t betray Cecilia!
"Not feeling well?" Caden’s voice was very light, carrying a heavy sense of oppression.
He clearly knew that wasn’t the case, yet he was making excuses for her and finding reasons for himself.
"How many nights has it been!" Evelyn’s voice was sharp, "Can’t you... do nothing, just hold me and sleep for one night?"
As she spoke, Evelyn’s cheeks turned crimson.
These days, Caden wouldn’t miss any opportunity at night, always acting as if he wasn’t tired at all, wanting to engage in physical activities with her.
Especially sometimes in the morning when they woke up, he would want to mess around again before going to work, leaving her utterly exhausted.
Evelyn seriously felt that her back ached, as if it was more tiring than work!
Listening to Evelyn’s complaints, Caden couldn’t help but laugh.
"Missus." Caden raised his tone, "Every time you’re excitedly enjoying it, did you forget? Now you’re complaining I’m an animal; I’ll call you ungrateful!"
"You’re the wolf, the dog!" Evelyn retorted displeased, "You’re the beast!"
Caden laughed more happily, lying next to Evelyn, holding her in his arms, gently kissing her forehead, then softly asking, "Is there anything you want to tell me?"
Meeting Caden’s gaze, Evelyn inevitably felt guilty.
She thought that she really hadn’t hidden well enough!
The fact that Caden would ask her like this clearly indicated he had noticed something.
However, because she wasn’t happy, he really didn’t touch her, and her heart suddenly felt warm.
This man, actually, wasn’t so single-minded.
Evelyn proactively cuddled in Caden’s arms, listening to his heartbeat.
"Thump—"
"Thump—"
Every beat was steady and strong, making her feel content.
"Can you sing to me too?" Evelyn asked quietly, "Or, tell a story is fine!"
Caden raised an eyebrow.
No one had ever made such a request to him.
"Lull me to sleep." Evelyn continued, "Husband, please?"
Singing?
Stories?
Caden was puzzled.
Could he say he didn’t know how?
Usually, to relieve stress, he listened to some light music.
The only song he could sing was that song "A Smile is Alluring," which he found and looped after hearing Evelyn sing it, as if she were singing it to him.
"Is there any benefit if I sing to you?" Caden asked.
