Chapter 486: Chapter 486: You Shameless Woman
Tears streamed down as Cecilia Lynch clutched her heart, staring out the window at the sky, asking in anguish, "If you never intended for Julian Keaton and me to have a future, then why did you let me meet him? Why did you let him love me too?"
If she hadn’t met Julian Keaton, she wouldn’t have fallen in love with him.
If he hadn’t fallen in love with her, at most, she would have just secretly admired him, without the greedy thought of staying by his side.
But now, knowing how deep his love is for her, how could she let go?
At that moment, Cecilia Lynch’s doorbell rang. She quickly wiped her tears and walked to the door. Through the video phone, she saw that it was Hannah Clayton outside.
Sniffling, Cecilia Lynch opened the door.
Without a word, Hannah Clayton slapped Cecilia Lynch across the face.
"You shameless woman!" Hannah shouted angrily, "Didn’t you tell me you had no unseemly intentions towards Julian? What do you call this now? Have you gone mad?"
Cecilia touched her cheek, feeling the sting.
Her brow furrowed, she looked at Hannah and softly said, "Julian and I are truly in love."
"Truly?" Hannah snorted like she’d heard a great joke, "Do you even have the face to talk to me about true love? If Julian had no money and power, would you be with him?"
"I won’t fantasize about ’what ifs’ or ’if onlys,’" Cecilia bit her words, "I love him, I love everything about him."
"This is the first time I’ve heard someone exalt loving money so proudly!" Hannah folded her arms, looking at Cecilia with disdain in her eyes, "Give me a straight answer, how much money do you need to leave Julian?"
After a pause, she added, "If you’re insatiably greedy, I promise you’ll end up with nothing!"
"If I wanted money, I would’ve left when Julian’s parents made me an offer." Cecilia said coldly, "Hannah, if Julian loved you now and I were in your position, ask yourself this—if I offered you money, would you leave?"
"I wouldn’t want to leave, but I would have to," Hannah stared into Cecilia’s eyes earnestly, "because I know staying with him, I can’t give him anything."
Cecilia’s face changed, her eyes contracting with obvious hurt.
Hannah rolled her eyes at Cecilia before continuing, "High society’s competition is far fiercer than you imagine, so no one would want to marry a wife that offers them nothing. It takes strength joining strength to ensure you remain undefeated, otherwise, once you fall from that position, how many sneers and glares will you face?"
"I..."
"I believe, living with you now, Julian must be full of laughter and joy, because you don’t pressure him, he lives naturally and easily." Hannah laughed coldly.
Cecilia said nothing, standing there trying to stay calm, reminding herself not to be completely crushed by Hannah.
"But Julian’s status and company will pressure him!" Hannah said coldly, "When he’s anxious about poor performance, unmet expectations for new products, or failing to secure collaboration deals—times when you can only smile at him—you will realize how powerless your love for him is."
Hannah’s words felt like sharp knives stabbing into Cecilia’s heart, bleeding and painful.
