Chapter 83: Chapter 77: Trio of Catastrophe
As a massive cloud of dust rose from the two landing figures, visibility became almost impossible.
Kael activated his ring and three special masks appeared. He threw each one to its owner.
What Kael did was a very smart move.
If their enemies managed to identify their faces, it would destroy everything they had worked to achieve and could mark them as threats to the country. The clans would launch an execution program just to hunt them down.
That was why Kael chose to summon the masks rather than depend on Foxy’s ability, since they did not know how strong their current enemies were. It would have been a great risk for them, because the enemies were giving off a very powerful aura.
The big old dragon man stepped forward, and his aura pushed all the dust away. He began studying the trio.
Sirath stepped forward and stood in the middle. He looked around, calculating all the current variables. One by one, Kael and Sirath decided on their plan. They both looked at Foxy at the same time, and everything was decided.
The trio looked at their two enemies: the phoenix woman and the dragon old man. Their power was immense, indicating they were above tier 30 at minimum.
"So you are the three insects causing trouble for the Apex Alliance."
The old man suddenly appeared in front of them and struck Kael in the shoulder, sending him flying backward as the crack of a broken bone echoed through the air.
"If you thought that was enough to finish me, then dragons have truly become stupid," Kael spoke. His eyes turned crimson and he used his legs to land against a tree trunk.
Vampire mode activated.
His legs bent back toward his knees as the sound of stretching muscles rang out, and he launched himself back into the fight.
He formed six blood arrows using his blood manipulation ability and released them, sending three toward the woman and three toward the man. Two bloody daggers appeared in his hands as he closed in on the dragon old man who had struck him, and five deep scratches appeared across the old man’s body.
That three second pause was all Sirath needed to shift the balance of this unequal battle.
Without hesitation, Sirath pushed Julian Foxy using his crescent moon tattoo, driving Julian’s back into the phoenix woman. Then with his other hand, he launched into rapid combat alongside Kael against the old man, buying precious time.
As Foxy moved to attack her, the phoenix woman activated a magic flame that was about to consume him. But Sirath activated his crescent moon ability and a massive white line appeared, connecting Julian’s back to Sirath’s hand. With a fast reaction, Sirath raised and lowered the hand bearing the crescent moon, breaking Julian’s locked position. That was how Julian seized the opportunity. He repeated Kael’s jumping move, pushing off with his legs as his katana began glowing with a mysterious crimson aura.
The woman’s body turned to flame and her hand moved to pierce Foxy. But a massive smile appeared on his face.
Phantom Physic, first activation.
Julian’s body turned into black phantom form and he passed straight through the woman’s attack and her body entirely.
As the phoenix woman realized what had happened, Julian opened his eyes. The white glow of his phantom form shifted into a razor sharp vertical slit pupil glowing within a crimson iris. It was framed by jagged red scales and set against pure darkness, while small white flames indicated that he had fused the new eyes with his phantom state. With one swift motion, he brought his katana down in a single deadly cut across her left arm with full killing intent.
Thud!
The phoenix woman’s hand fell to the ground. She attempted to regenerate it by turning it into flame. It failed, because Julian had coated his katana with his phantom body.
A burst of flame exploded outward as she tried to erase Julian entirely. She was now fighting seriously.
She had lost her arm because she had underestimated his attack, assuming it was merely a feint rather than a decisive killing blow. That was what happened when you looked down on your enemies.
What she did not know was that Julian had already transported himself into the sky. Using Phantom Physic, he had positioned himself among the twenty dragons and other monsters above the battlefield. He raised his katana before them, drawing on his full power.
"Perfect Phantom Hypothesis: Eyes of Illusion."
A massive light erupted. The dragon old man and the phoenix woman turned toward it, and every other creature on the field did the same. Only Kael and Sirath closed their eyes.
When the light faded, the woman and the old man felt that something was wrong.
In the moment the old man was distracted, Sirath swept his leg and flipped him into the air. A golden energy surged from Sirath and with a swift elbow strike he made the man cough blood. Then he activated his domain ability, which spread across the entire field, and disappeared to stop the phoenix woman from catching Foxy.
As the old man was sent floating upward, Kael appeared above him. The old man countered with a light dragon breath, but Kael hit him with a blood ball that penetrated his mouth and began tearing him apart from the inside. Then Kael drove both legs into him, sending the dragon’s body crashing into the ground like a springboard, launching Kael back into the air.
"Blood Boost, activate."
Kael muttered as his chains began to appear. Using his consuming chains, he struck the old man before he could rise, landing a dusk bolt chain strike that made the dragon old man scream in agony. Kael’s chains then spread outward and captured the old man entirely. Using the Skull of Ashen, they began draining the old man’s life force as Kael prepared to go all out.
But a sudden happy smile spread across the dragon old man’s face as he began transforming into a massive dragon, one that exceeded even Escanor’s size by three times.
Kael’s chains expanded as Dravniel grew before him. A powerful battle aura began to rise between Kael and the dragon old man, Dravniel. But as the clash of auras intensified, Kael’s body could not hold out for long and he began to bleed.
Dravniel was cunning. He knew that if he resisted and tried to push energy back, the chains would punish him for it. So instead he used the difference in tier as a weakness to exploit against Kael.
But before Dravniel’s smile could last, before he could unleash his dragon blast, Kael’s smile widened. Foxy had triggered all the monsters above them into launching a simultaneous blast attack that consumed their life spans, and his hypothesis began to react.
Kael’s mission had been to stop Dravniel from using his Soul Mirror.
These were unconscious monsters and dragons who had failed to ascend their tiers, who had lost their human forms or gone insane and lost their minds entirely. The many blasts struck the field. Sirath activated both of his tattoos and he and Kael cleared the area before the explosions hit.
Sirath’s domain had contained the blasts, compressing the destruction within its boundaries and redirecting the force inward. The sheer power of the multi blast was evident when Sirath’s nose and eyes began bleeding for several seconds. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
As the dust settled, the duo surveyed the wreckage.
Blood poured from Dravniel, and the phoenix woman was already dead.
She had fallen because Sirath was her natural counter. Born from the sun and crescent moon, he grew stronger from every attack she used against him. She was poorly suited for direct combat to begin with, and when Sirath froze the flow of her energy before escaping the targeted area, he prevented her from activating her Soul Mirror. She had no choice but to take the full force of the multiblast. Even her rebirth ability as a phoenix, which would normally allow her to restart from zero, had also been nullified because Sirath absorbed her Sharad Rebirth using his sun ability.
She had not lost because she was weak. She had lost because Sirath was her natural counter.
As for why Sirath had prioritized Dravniel over her from the start, it was because Dravniel posed the greater threat. Eliminating the biggest danger first was the only logical move.
"Haaaa... haaaa..."
Dravniel took long, ragged breaths as his aura rose again. He returned to his human dragon form because his power had been reduced after using it to withstand the blasts. Gathering himself, he muttered the name of his final attack.
"Soul Mirror: Dragon Domination."
A sudden light erupted before him. Every dragon still trapped under Foxy’s illusion moved forward and bowed. Then their eyes opened as their life force was pulled into Dravniel. His form began to grow, and the white aura surrounding him expanded further and further.
The other monsters that were not dragons remained locked within Foxy’s hypnosis. But their instincts refused to obey the command to stop Dravniel’s transformation. Every creature felt it in their bones: a single wrong
move, and they would die. Dravniel was now prepared for a death battle, and no one could stop him.
