Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Trafficking Organization
The moment Ji Qinghe heard the name "Chen Jianqiang," she was instantly on alert. Zhou Tiancheng was even faster, moving to arrest Chen Jianqiang on the spot.
"Hey, hey, hey, officers! I’ve already explained everything! What are you doing?"
Panicked by Zhou Tiancheng’s swift action, Chen Jianqiang began to scream and shout.
"Everyone, come look! The police are arresting people for no reason! Is there no justice in this world?!"
The surrounding crowd of onlookers was immediately drawn in. The already blocked road became even more congested.
Seeing this, Chen Jianqiang grew even more brazen.
"Yeah, okay, we were in the wrong at first, but I’m just a passenger! I wasn’t the one driving. I just wanted to use the restroom, and they arrested me. Tell me, isn’t this completely out of line?"
"The police can’t just arrest people like that."
"Exactly."
Jiang Li watched the growing crowd. It was obvious Chen Jianqiang was just trying to stall for time.
A voice crackled over the radio in the car. "Captain Zhou, Captain Zhou, is everything okay over there? No matter what we say, they’re insisting on starting work. We’re losing control of the situation!"
Zhao Shuo stared at the foreman and his crew. "Officer, don’t make things difficult for us common folk. We’ve got families to feed.
Nothing’s even happening here. We need to get this finished so we can get paid."
"Yeah! We get paid daily for this job. My wife and kid are waiting for me at the hospital.
And the big boss said that as long as we tear this place down tonight, we’ll get our money first thing in the morning.
If my wife and kid’s treatment gets delayed because of this, are you police going to take responsibility?"
"Everyone, keep going! Don’t bother talking to this bunch; it’s useless." The foreman’s eyes darted around as he began to incite the crowd. Luckily, the pay for this job was good, and everyone who came was desperate for money.
"Police business! Everybody stop what you’re doing, or I’ll arrest you all!" Zhao Shuo shouted at the stubborn crowd before him.
’If there was really nothing wrong, waiting one night wouldn’t matter. They’re in such a hurry to work... they must have something to hide,’ he thought.
"Go ahead and arrest me then! I just want my money!"
Jiang Li heard the commotion from the other side and glanced at Zhou Tiancheng and Ji Qinghe, who were still tied up with the situation outside.
"Qinghe, go help Zhao Shuo. I’ll handle things here," Zhou Tiancheng said, looking at the troublemaker in his grasp. ’So he wants to play games with me, huh?’
"The rest of you, with me."
Ji Qinghe got into the car, sat in the driver’s seat, and saw the unmoving vehicle in front of her. She slammed on the gas and rammed it out of the way, leading the cars behind her as they sped toward Zhao Shuo’s location.
As she drove, Ji Qinghe asked Jiang Li for more details about the situation.
"Jiang Li, is it possible that the other person you mentioned is the construction site’s boss?"
Ji Qinghe glanced at Jiang Li in the rearview mirror. One moment, Jiang Li had mentioned Chen Jianqiang, and the next, Chen Jianqiang had delivered himself right to them.
After that, it was impossible for her not to believe.
"Yes. He’s probably on his way to the construction site, too."
Hearing this from Jiang Li, Ji Qinghe stomped on the accelerator and sped up.
Meanwhile, at Zhao Shuo’s location, Wang Batian had gotten word and hurried over with his men. "Officer, I’m the person in charge here, Wang Batian. Let’s talk over here, over here."
Wang Batian looked at Zhao Shuo and approached with a sycophantic grin, trying to lead him aside. His plan was to have his men start work while they were distracted; by the time the police realized what was happening, it would be too late.
"You’re the one in charge here?"
Zhao Shuo looked at the man in front of him, who was dressed in a suit with a thick gold chain around his neck. Then he scanned the restless workers behind him.
"Wang Batian, is it? We need you to halt work for one day. Please cooperate."
Zhao Shuo took out a stop-work order and handed it to Wang Batian.
The smile on Wang Batian’s face became a little strained.
’Damn it,’ he thought, ’this brat is completely unyielding.’
"Yes, yes, of course we’ll cooperate. We will definitely cooperate. You officers have been working hard all night. Why don’t we find a place to talk things over properly?"
Zhao Shuo was speechless. ’I’m a police officer, not some businessman. He wants to ’find a place to talk’?’
Just then, Ji Qinghe arrived with Jiang Li.
Hearing the approaching sirens, Wang Batian’s face grew tense. ’Damn it, didn’t Chen Jianqiang say he was holding them up?’
Ji Qinghe, Jiang Li, and a group of officers quickly got out of their cars.
"Seal the scene! Contact the detective team and get the medical examiner over here, now!"
Ji Qinghe glanced at the bus stop sign Jiang Li had mentioned. It was still there. She let out a sigh of relief.
The moment Jiang Li stepped out of the car and saw the horribly familiar scene around her, she began to tremble uncontrollably. A tightness gripped her chest, making it hard to breathe.
"Jiang Li, are you okay?" Ji Qinghe asked, noticing Jiang Li’s pale face and reaching out to support her.
Jiang Li felt a wave of dizziness. "Officer... Officer Ji, this is where the vehicle from my dream was parked."
She pointed beneath the phantom vehicle’s tires. "There was a middle-aged man here. Under the rear wheel, there was a child, crushed into a bloody pulp. To the left, next to the wheel, was half of a torso, and the other half was a short distance away."
Jiang Li looked at the torn-up ground, her mind filled with the vivid scenes from her dream.
"Here... there was grayish-white brain matter mixed in with the blood."
Jiang Li suddenly turned and pointed to where Zhao Shuo and Wang Batian were standing.
"A family of three was standing right here. The next second, they were all sent flying by the impact."
Hearing this, Zhao Shuo quickly jumped away. But just as he moved to another spot, Jiang Li’s finger pointed toward him again.
"Where Officer Zhao is standing now is the exact spot where the pregnant woman landed after hitting the bus stop sign and rolling to a stop."
A chill shot up Zhao Shuo’s spine. This was just too creepy.
Wang Batian listened as Jiang Li described a scene identical to the one he had been sent to "clean up." ’Who the hell is this woman?’
"Young lady, you need evidence to make claims like that. You’re just making things up."
Jiang Li turned to look at Wang Batian, her pupils instantly dilating. "Officer Ji, the big gold chain."
Ji Qinghe looked over and, sure enough, saw the conspicuous gold chain on the man.
"You are suspected of involvement in a homicide. Please come with us to the station for questioning."
Wang Batian turned to run, but in the next second, Ji Qinghe took him down with a shoulder throw and cuffed his hands behind his back.
Seeing this, the surrounding workers realized something was wrong and, in their panic, also thought about running.
The next second—BANG! A gunshot rang out. "Nobody move!"
Zhao Shuo finally snapped out of his daze. ’So, something else I didn’t know about must have happened on their way here.’
The detective team received the call and rushed over. They began collecting fingerprints, DNA, and other relevant data from the locations Jiang Li had pointed out.
Under the glare of their lights, bloodstains in the cracks of the bus stop sign were revealed. The faces of everyone around instantly grew grim, and they began to work with renewed urgency.
Even in the torn-up areas, they found several stones stained with blood.
Wang Batian watched this, dumbfounded. ’Damn it,’ he thought, ’it’s only been an hour. There wasn’t enough time to move everything.’
’If these people had been any slower, it would’ve all been cleaned up already.’
Wang Batian suddenly looked up and met Jiang Li’s indifferent, ice-cold gaze. For some reason, a chill ran down his spine.
"Take him back for a thorough interrogation," Ji Qinghe said to the task force members, gesturing at Wang Batian on the ground.
Jiang Li was about to follow Ji Qinghe into the car when she suddenly froze. ’There’s something here!’
"Watch out!"
