Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Why Are You Guys Together? (2)

Amanda Thorne, watching from the second-floor window, crossed her arms and sneered. "Is that all? How boring!"

She smoothed her long hair. As she turned, she received a phone call.

She answered. A man’s voice came from the other end of the line. "Miss Thorne, we’ve found the person you asked about!"

"Who is it!"

The man on the other end said he’d already sent the information to her email.

Amanda Thorne immediately returned to her room, turned on her computer, and logged into her email.

The first things she saw were a few photos and a brief description.

The woman in the photos looked gentle and elegant, with captivating features. She clearly wasn’t young.

Scrolling down to the profile: Joanne Donovan, daughter of the current mayor, Quincy Rhodes. 31 years old!

’Heh, she’s even a year older than me. Nothing more than an old woman!’

Amanda Thorne studied the photos. It was definitely the same woman she had run into at the hotel.

"The money will be in your account tomorrow. As for your injuries, send me a bill, and I’ll pay for that too!"

The man on the other end, seeing how direct she was, simply said, "Got it," and hung up.

Amanda Thorne crossed her arms, her fingers tapping lightly on her arm as she fell into thought.

Amanda Thorne had heard of this Joanne Donovan’s reputation before.

Back in the day, she’d been a well-known figure among Portmire’s socialites.

But then something happened—rumor had it, it was a huge scandal. It was quickly hushed up, though, and Joanne Donovan gradually disappeared from the scene.

The rumor was she’d gone abroad for the past few years.

’To think that the moment she returns, she’s here to steal my man!’

That night, Georgia Thorne didn’t return to her rented apartment. She was staying at the Thorne residence.

Zane Lennox left at the same time as Justin Sullivan and the others.

Georgia Thorne followed behind Jared Thorne, politely seeing them off.

Selena Sheridan, already seated in the car, watched the two men talking outside.

Their expressions were grim, and she had no idea what they were saying.

Justin Sullivan clenched his fists. "I know you’re not Georgia’s boyfriend. I’m warning you, you’d better stay away from her!"

Zane Lennox sneered, completely unfazed by his words. "In what capacity are you warning me? As Georgia Thorne’s uncle, or as her suitor?"

Zane Lennox had thoroughly investigated Justin Sullivan, including his past with Georgia Thorne.

’The way Georgia looks at Justin Sullivan is different. Their feelings were probably mutual, but they never got together because he went abroad.’

’If they couldn’t be together six years ago, then they can’t be together now, either.’

"Justin Sullivan, instead of warning me, you should think about your own position." Zane’s gaze fell on Selena Sheridan inside the car. "Between ambition and beauty, it seems you chose the former."

Selena Sheridan couldn’t hear what the two men were talking about. When she saw Zane Lennox smile at her, she returned a brilliant smile of her own.

Justin Sullivan was furious at Zane Lennox for showing off like this. "You think just because you drive me out of Georgia’s life, she’ll end up with you!"

"Let me tell you, there’s another man in the picture. Georgia will absolutely never like you!"

’Georgia is very dependent on Elliot Sheridan. Besides, she already admitted her relationship with him to my face.’

’It’s completely different from when she acknowledged Zane.’

’When Georgia talks about Elliot, her voice is filled with emotion. She instinctively defends him. And when she says his name, the corners of her mouth turn up in an irrepressible smile!’

’None of that happens when she mentions Zane!’

Zane Lennox frowned deeply, knowing that there was indeed such a man in Georgia Thorne’s life.

’During the three years Georgia was in school, he couldn’t find a single clue about the man who was keeping her.’

’This man’s background had to be extraordinary. He must hold immense power in Portmire.’

’For a while, he suspected it was Justin Sullivan. But his investigation revealed that Justin had been abroad for years, with no contact with Georgia whatsoever.’

’So if it wasn’t Justin Sullivan, what other men had Georgia been involved with?’

Even if he was concerned, he wouldn’t show it in front of a rival.

Zane Lennox gave a haughty smile. "Justin Sullivan, is this a case of sour grapes because you can’t have her? Georgia is my girlfriend. I hope you’ll stop harassing her in the future!"

Neither man could stand the sight of the other.

With that, the two men got into their respective cars.

Watching their cars drive away one after the other, Georgia’s heart finally began to slow down a bit.

’I was so afraid they were going to cause a scene right there at the entrance!’

It was getting late, and Jared Thorne, feeling his age, was the first to go inside and rest.

Georgia was exhausted too, after an entire evening of fear and anxiety.

As she turned to go inside, Amanda Thorne sneered, "Was tonight thrilling for you, Georgia?"

"Thanks to you." Georgia’s expression was frosty as she hurried upstairs.

’So thrilling my heart almost leaped out of my chest.’

Back in her room, Georgia removed the necklace and placed it in its box.

’Something this valuable... I’ll have to return it to Zane Lennox sooner or later.’

The next morning, after getting ready, Georgia went downstairs for breakfast before heading to work.

Before she even reached the bottom of the stairs, she heard Amanda Thorne’s furious voice. "Mom, this woman is obviously a homewrecker! When I was with Elliot, she was still abroad!"

Furious, Amanda Thorne slammed the newspaper in her hand onto the coffee table and threw herself onto the sofa.

Georgia felt her head spin. Standing on the landing, she was suddenly unsure whether to continue down or retreat upstairs.

Part of her was curious to know who Amanda was calling a homewrecker, but another part of her wanted nothing to do with Amanda’s anger.

While she was hesitating, Hayley Sullivan spotted her standing there on the stairs and ordered her around like a servant, "What are you doing just standing there? Can’t you see your sister is upset? Hurry up and get her a cup of tea!"

Her imperious tone made it clear she saw Georgia as nothing more than a servant.

Georgia mumbled a quiet "yes" and went into the kitchen to prepare a cup of tea.

When she returned, Hayley Sullivan was comforting a crying Amanda. "Tell me, what exactly happened that night!"

Georgia walked over. When she saw the newspaper on the coffee table, the hand holding the teacup trembled.

The hot tea from the cup spilled out, scalding the back of her hand before dripping onto the newspaper.

She didn’t feel any pain on the back of her hand where the hot tea had spilled. Her eyes were glued to the front-page headline.

The black ink of the headline began to blur where the hot tea had dripped. The headline read: Elliot Sheridan and Fiancée Make High-Profile Hotel Appearance; ’Other Woman’ Causes a Scene.

Hayley Sullivan saw Georgia standing there, dazed. "What are you standing there for? Bring the cup over!"

Georgia still couldn’t tear her eyes away from the newspaper. Swallowing her grief, she handed the cup to Hayley Sullivan.

Amanda’s eye makeup was a mess from crying. Hayley Sullivan was cooing reassurances to her, but when she realized the tea Georgia had poured was scalding hot, she immediately launched into another tirade against her.

A buzzing filled Georgia’s head, completely drowning out the voices of Hayley and Amanda.

She moved stiffly back to her room and called Elliot Sheridan.

She tried calling four or five times, but his phone was off.

’Just yesterday they were calling and texting each other. Today, everything was different.’

Georgia’s mood was abysmal. She skipped breakfast and rushed to catch the bus.

Elliot Sheridan was Portmire’s most eligible bachelor. Handsome, from a prestigious family, and incredibly talented—few men his age had achieved his status.

Countless socialites and heiresses in Portmire were fighting tooth and nail to get his attention. The number of women who dreamed of becoming Mrs. Sheridan was far from small.

Overnight, news broke that Elliot Sheridan had gone from being the city’s most prized bachelor to an engaged man, causing a massive stir.

On the bus, a call came in from Nancy Hughes, her voice ringing out with surprising clarity over the surrounding din.
