Chapter 55: Chapter 55: My Boyfriend from Breccon

’I’ve imagined meeting Justin Sullivan again countless times—we would smile calmly, say hello, and ask if the other had been well.’

’I even considered that he might have found someone else, but I never imagined it would be this much of a cliché.’

Selena Sheridan’s boyfriend was Justin Sullivan.

Georgia Thorne felt her eyes sting. She immediately lowered her head, not daring to look at Justin Sullivan.

She was afraid that if she got too emotional, she might grab him and demand answers.

Selena Sheridan linked her arm affectionately through Justin Sullivan’s and introduced him to Georgia Thorne. "Georgia, his name is Justin Sullivan. He’s the boyfriend I met in Breccon!"

Behind her back, she dug her fingers into her wrist.

She looked up with a smile. "Oh, is that right?"

"Jean, this is the Georgia I told you about. She’s my best, best, best friend!" Selena Sheridan turned and looked at Justin Sullivan, her expression shy and sweet.

Justin Sullivan’s expression was cold, his gaze fixed on Georgia, who kept her head down.

His hand on the luggage cart tightened its grip on the handle, and a flicker of light ignited in his otherwise dim eyes.

It was gone in an instant, vanishing as if nothing had happened.

Selena Sheridan was rather unobservant and failed to notice anything strange between the two, instead linking her arm affectionately through Georgia’s.

"It’s so good to be back home. Seeing both of you makes me so happy!"

As her friend’s cheerful voice rang out, Georgia glanced up at Selena, only to find her gazing lovingly at Justin Sullivan.

Georgia knew that look all too well.

After all, her own eyes once held that same light when she looked at the man she loved.

She had been hopelessly in love for three years.

Following Selena’s gaze, she looked over at Justin Sullivan.

She froze for a moment, her heart racing. Their eyes met for only an instant before she quickly tore her gaze away.

An indescribable emotion welled up from deep within her, sending ripples across her heart.

The smile on her lips was a bitter one.

’Georgia, when did you become such a coward? You can’t even manage a simple hello to the man you love.’

’Worse, you have to pretend you don’t even know each other.’

Selena Sheridan’s cheerful chatter buzzed in her ear.

Georgia desperately suppressed the bitter feelings, telling herself over and over that she was doing it because she cared.

She cared so, so much about Selena’s feelings. Selena was her best friend in the world.

If Selena knew that the man she’d had a secret crush on for years was now her boyfriend, she would be heartbroken.

She stole another glance at Justin Sullivan from the corner of her eye.

This time, he wasn’t looking at her. His gaze was fixed steadily ahead, his face impassive, as if nothing was amiss.

’He didn’t say my name. Is it because he cares about Selena’s feelings, too?’

Either way, the thought made Georgia’s heart ache.

Although both Justin Sullivan and Selena Sheridan had been studying in Breccon, Georgia had never drawn a line between them.

The man she’d secretly loved was now with her best friend. How could something so cliché be happening to her? freēwēbnovel.com

On the entire walk out of the airport, Georgia didn’t say a single word to Justin Sullivan.

They didn’t even exchange a glance. Georgia forced herself to focus all her attention on Selena Sheridan.

As they stepped out of the airport, Selena, unable to contain her excitement, leaned close to her ear. "Georgia, I really, really like Jean. We’re about to get engaged!"

Her mind went completely blank, as if her brain had just crashed.

Her gaze uncontrollably shifted to Justin Sullivan, who was up ahead.

His back was as straight and proud as ever, but the sight of it filled her with despair.

It was just like the day he’d left her without a word, showing her nothing but his resolute back.

No matter how fast she ran, she could never catch him.

Her eyes stung and burned, brimming with tears that threatened to spill at any moment.

After a long moment, she finally found her voice.

Her voice was thick and trembling as she managed a single word, "Congratulations."

"Jean and I are planning to get married a year after the engagement. Georgia, when the time comes, will you be my maid of honor? Please?"

Selena Sheridan was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, living her entire life in a carefree world with a happy family, a smooth academic career, and now, a perfect romance.

Georgia had envied her more than once, but never more than she did at this very moment.

Because the man Selena was going to marry was the one Georgia loved most.

Before Georgia could answer, Selena’s eyes lit up.

She rose onto her tiptoes, stretched out her arm, and waved vigorously at a man up ahead.

"Uncle, over here!" freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Selena let go of Georgia and dashed toward Elliot Sheridan, who was standing a short distance away.

Elliot Sheridan. Georgia faltered, a fresh wave of misery washing over her.

’Of all the people to run into when I’m at my lowest, it had to be him.’

Selena linked her arm with Justin Sullivan’s again and smiled playfully. "Uncle, this is my boyfriend, Justin Sullivan. I told you about him on the phone!"

Elliot Sheridan looked Justin Sullivan over coolly. "Hello. I’m Selena’s uncle."

"Hello, sir. I’m Justin Sullivan."

The two men greeted each other and shook hands before quickly letting go.

Selena wasn’t pleased. "Uncle, be nice to Jean! Don’t scare him away!"

Elliot Sheridan grunted, his gaze drifting past Justin Sullivan and landing on Georgia.

"If the boy truly loves you, you couldn’t chase him off with a stick."

Elliot’s words were pointed, his sharp gaze sweeping over Justin Sullivan’s face.

"Uncle!" Selena pouted, then turned to Justin. "My uncle’s just got a temper. Don’t mind him!"

Georgia walked over just in time to hear Justin Sullivan grunt in acknowledgment.

Her heart ached. She then smiled and greeted Elliot. "Mr. Sheridan, long time no see!"

Elliot acknowledged her, his dark eyes locking onto her reddened eyes. She looked as if she had just been crying.

’So pitiful. I wonder what happened to upset her so much.’

Elliot Sheridan had driven himself today. Georgia sat distractedly in the passenger seat, trying to make herself small as she listened to Selena and Justin’s conversation in the back.

Bitterness welled up in her heart. She couldn’t help but let her head drop, her long hair spilling forward from her back.

It conveniently hid half of her face. She wanted to cry but didn’t dare.

Suddenly, a crisp, cool scent washed over her.

Before she could react, she turned her head and found herself looking directly into a pair of dark eyes.

Georgia never expected him to lean in so close, not while Selena and Justin were sitting right there in the back seat.

She was so startled that her mind went into a panic; she didn’t know whether to lean back or push him away.

In the instant she turned, his lips seemed to brush against her cheek. For a few seconds, she just stared into his eyes.

His deep, dark eyes reflected her own face, and a traitorous tear escaped, rolling down her cheek.

Reacting a few beats too late, she finally jerked back, pressing herself against the leather seat.

"Ell... Ell..." Her tear-filled eyes trembled, and she couldn’t get his name out.

’Why did this man suddenly get so close to me?’

’Isn’t... isn’t he afraid Selena will see!’

"You forgot your seatbelt."

A puff of warm air washed over her face as his pleasant voice drifted into her ear.

Georgia immediately turned away, frantically fumbling for the seatbelt at her side.

Perhaps because Elliot was so close, his presence so overwhelming, her trembling hands couldn’t find the seatbelt.

’This man is insane, getting this close to me!’

Just as Georgia was about to panic, Elliot Sheridan took the seatbelt in one hand and buckled it for her.

He then returned to his own seat and sat as if he were a perfect gentleman, as if nothing had happened at all.
