Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Georgia Thorne, Also My Half-Person

Elliot Sheridan was a perfect gentleman. He took the phone from Georgia Thorne’s palm without touching her in the slightest.

The man didn’t like being touched by other women.

It had, after all, taken her a great deal of time and effort to build her current relationship with Elliot.

Georgia had wanted to go back on her own, but Amanda Thorne stopped her.

The latter smiled affectionately. "Georgia, it’s not safe for a girl like you to go home alone this late. You should let Elliot drive you!"

As she spoke, Amanda turned back to Elliot. "You don’t mind taking Georgia home, do you?"

The man didn’t refuse, so Amanda took that as a yes.

With a charming smile, she snuggled into Elliot’s arms. The two of them looked so perfect together.

Georgia averted her eyes, trying to pretend she didn’t see, but it was impossible.

Even after their breakup, seeing Elliot and Amanda together still made her heart ache a little.

It was like a needle pricking her heart—not painful, but a discomfort that spread through her entire body.

DING. The elevator doors opened. Georgia deliberately quickened her pace to step out first.

’I don’t want to walk behind them and watch them being all lovey-dovey.’

Back in the private room Georgia had left, the atmosphere was still lively.

’Then she goes and stays out all night again. She must have a man!’

’Don’t tell me she hasn’t broken it off with that sugar daddy of hers?’

The more he thought about it, the more he fixated on who Georgia’s man was.

Who had left such a distinct mark on Georgia’s lips, as if staking a claim on her?

’Staking a claim?’

The thought made Zane Lennox even more furious. He shouldn’t have let Georgia leave just now.

Feeling stuffy in the private room, he went downstairs for some air.

Standing on the second floor, he happened to see Georgia exit the elevator alone. He was about to go down when he saw Elliot Sheridan and Amanda Thorne following behind her.

He stopped in his tracks. ’I must be crazy!’

’Why else would I want to chase after her the second I see her, without a second thought?’

His gaze fell on Elliot behind her. That familiar back... he seemed to have seen it somewhere before.

It seemed to be the man he had seen passionately kissing a woman in the hallway earlier.

Not "seemed to be"—it was him!

’But who was the woman in his arms back then?’

Georgia Thorne had intended to go back to her own apartment, but they drove straight to the Thorne family residence.

’If I ask to go back now, does that mean I’ll have to get in Elliot’s car again?’

She was trying to avoid Elliot as it was; the last thing she wanted was to get back in his car.

She quickly got out of the car and went inside.

Amanda Thorne didn’t come in. Georgia stood at the top of the stairs, where she could see the entrance.

Elliot Sheridan was standing in front of the car with Amanda right by his side. They looked very intimate.

’Are they kissing?’

She couldn’t be sure; their heads were obscured.

Not having any desire to spy, Georgia went straight to her room.

「The next morning」

Georgia Thorne woke up late.

She had probably drunk too much last night. She woke up groggy and feeling awful.

When she went downstairs, she was surprised to see Amanda Thorne and her mother, Hayley Sullivan.

"Mom, look at my necklace. Isn’t it beautiful?" Amanda asked, showing off as she touched a diamond necklace around her neck.

"Mm, it’s lovely. A gift from Elliot?" Hayley Sullivan said with a wide smile.

"Of course! He gave it to me last night!" Amanda stood up proudly and turned to Georgia, who was just coming down the stairs. "Isn’t it beautiful?"

"It is," Georgia nodded.

"This necklace was personally designed by Louis. It’s one of a kind!"

Amanda’s neck was beautiful—long, slender, and fair. The white diamond necklace added an extra touch of elegance.

Georgia knew Elliot always had excellent taste. For example, the ruby necklace he’d given her after a business trip had been stunningly beautiful.

"You should work harder on that Mason Morgan of yours. His wife just died. If you please him in bed, he might spend a fortune on you too. Though whether he’d be willing to buy you a necklace this nice is another story!" Amanda laughed smugly.

Georgia was confused. ’Who is Mason Morgan?’

’And what does he have to do with me?’

Just as Georgia was about to speak, Amanda’s voice turned cold. She leaned in and whispered, "And as for Justin Sullivan, I’d advise you to give up. Don’t think you two will get together just because he wrote you all those letters!"

Her already fair cheeks paled further. Georgia looked up at Amanda, who simply chuckled and walked away.

Biting her lip, she gripped the strap of her bag tightly and said, "I’m heading to work."

She left the Thorne residence with a grim expression. Only then did the tightness in her chest slowly begin to ease.

She was in a truly awful mood. Georgia’s crush on Justin Sullivan was no secret in the Thorne family.

A few minutes later, she received a call from Nicole Kane, piling on to her already awful mood.

She hastily squeezed onto a bus and rushed to the office.

The atmosphere at the office was tense and serious. Everyone had their heads down, working diligently.

Georgia put her bag on her chair and went to Nicole Kane’s office.

Nicole Kane was in a very bad mood. She tore into Georgia, giving her a harsh lecture.

"Georgia Thorne, this company isn’t your personal playground! Who do you think you are, just abandoning a client at a hotel and taking off? Do you think you can do whatever you want just because you have Elliot Sheridan backing you up? If you don’t want this job, that’s fine. Just tell me, and you can collect this month’s pay on your way out!" Nicole Kane slammed a thick file on her desk in anger.

Georgia lowered her head and weakly mumbled an apology.

That only made Nicole Kane angrier. "Do you think a simple ’sorry’ fixes everything? A partner as big as Lennox Group—where am I supposed to find another one of those?!"

’Zane Lennox must have given Nicole a hard time after I left the private room yesterday.’

Georgia was just a subordinate who had walked out in the middle of a job. The responsibility was hers.

After getting thoroughly chewed out, Georgia left the office.

She spent the entire day sitting sullenly at her desk, unable to muster any interest in anything.

That evening, Georgia had just gotten into bed when Selena Sheridan called. She said she was coming back this weekend and wanted Georgia to pick her up from the airport.

Georgia readily agreed. They hadn’t seen each other since Selena had gone abroad.

Selena sounded a little off on the phone, a bit secretive, as if she had something to tell her.

Georgia told her about her work troubles. She didn’t mention Zane Lennox by name, just that a client was being very difficult.

Selena was furious on her behalf, cursing out Zane Lennox over the phone.

Chatting with her good friend for a while lifted her spirits considerably.

Selena was indignant. "Georgia, if you can’t stand it at that company, just quit! Sales isn’t even your major! Why don’t you come work at my second uncle’s company? I’ll talk to him. For my sake, he’ll definitely treat you well!"

Selena made the guarantee over the phone, which only made Georgia give a wry smile.

"No, it’s okay." If she had wanted to work at Elliot Sheridan’s company, she would have gone with Nancy Hughes in the first place.

She and Selena chatted about other odds and ends for a while longer. It was very late by the time Georgia finally hung up.

That night, Georgia had a nightmare.

She dreamed she was bitten by a cat, got rabies, and died.

She woke up in a fright. When she opened her eyes, the sky outside was still a hazy gray. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

She was covered in a cold sweat, her clothes clinging uncomfortably to her skin.

After a shower, she wasn’t the least bit sleepy, so she decided to go downstairs.

It was just after six. It had been a long time since she’d woken up this early.
