Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Very Good, You’ve Even Learned to Eat and Run! (Part 1)
A deep, bottomless smile played in the depths of his dark eyes.
’Great. She’s learned to eat and run!’
Meanwhile, a frantic Georgia Thorne sprinted out of the hotel in a disheveled escape, her heart pounding with anxiety.
She hailed a taxi and went straight back to her rented apartment.
Back at the hotel, Elliot Sheridan had just finished showering when Owen Sawyer called.
"Speak." The single word was clipped and direct.
"Miss Thorne has already taken a taxi back."
"Mm."
This "mm" was different from his usual ones; the end of the sound curved upward.
It meant Elliot Sheridan was in a very good mood.
Recently, Elliot Sheridan had been in a terrible mood, getting angry at everything he saw.
Having been by Elliot Sheridan’s side for years, he had never seen him fly into such an inexplicable rage.
It wasn’t until he visited Elliot Sheridan’s private apartment that he learned Georgia Thorne hadn’t been there in a long time.
The cleaning lady had tactfully mentioned that the two seemed to have broken up.
’A breakup?’
’Then what was last night’s elaborate plan all about?’
Back in her rented apartment, Georgia was glad it was Saturday, so she didn’t have to go to work.
Otherwise, she would have gone insane having to deal with this aching back and sore body.
Lying exhausted on the bed, she felt sore all over, but there was nothing else wrong.
Elliot Sheridan was a man who knew how to take care of a woman. After they made love, he would often carry her to the bathroom to wash up before they went to sleep together.
Georgia Thorne’s memory was very clear. Yesterday, while she was being bathed, he had taken her again while she was in a daze.
No, that wasn’t right. To be precise, she had been the one to seduce him into it.
Just thinking about it made her face flush slightly.
’I’m really going crazy. It was so hard to break things off, so why did I end up sleeping with him again?’
She didn’t believe for a second that Hayley Sullivan would have sent her to Elliot Sheridan’s bed.
So which man had they tried to give her to? And why, in the end, did she end up with Elliot Sheridan again?
She really couldn’t remember that middle part at all.
’Yesterday, I was so sleepy. I just wanted to sleep right after dinner.’
’Then Hayley Sullivan came to find me, and I lost consciousness. It must have been Hayley Sullivan’s doing!’
Yesterday at home, she had only eaten a little bit of dinner and had some juice; she hadn’t touched anything else.
’Everyone ate dinner, but I was the only one affected. The problem must have been in the juice!’
She quickly pieced together the sequence of events.
Hayley Sullivan had delivered her, unconscious, to a man’s bed. But as fate would have it, she was once again saved by Elliot Sheridan.
This time, Hayley Sullivan’s actions were even more ruthless and merciless than before.
She hadn’t left her even a sliver of a chance to resist.
She was so grateful for Elliot Sheridan’s timely appearance.
Otherwise, she really couldn’t have borne opening her eyes this morning to see any other strange man.
Georgia Thorne lay listlessly on the bed. With Nancy Hughes out today, she couldn’t even be bothered to make lunch.
She slept until noon, only to be woken by the vibration of her phone.
The call was from Jared Thorne. She answered, and heard Jared Thorne’s voice on the other end say, "Open the door!"
She was taken aback. ’Jared Thorne is at my door?’
Although she didn’t know how Jared Thorne had found her apartment address, Georgia Thorne didn’t want to see anyone from the Thorne family right now.
Hayley Sullivan could only have done such a thing with Jared Thorne’s permission.
’Is he here today to confirm what happened last night?!’
This was the second time she had been sold out. She was completely and utterly heartbroken by the Thorne family.
Georgia Thorne didn’t hurry to the door. She slowly and deliberately changed into a fresh set of clothes.
When she opened the door, Jared Thorne rushed in, an anxious look on his face.
"Georgia, are you okay from last night?"
Georgia Thorne turned around, a mocking smile on her lips. "The moment I was drugged, didn’t you silently consent to it?"
’And now he has the nerve to come here and hypocritically ask if I’m okay!’
Jared Thorne’s expression turned awkward. "Georgia, let me explain. I didn’t know you were drugged. It wasn’t until after you were taken to the hotel that I found out your stepmother had put something in the juice!"
"Is that so?" Georgia Thorne asked coolly.
"It’s true!" Jared Thorne nodded repeatedly, his eyes pleading for her to believe him. "As soon as I found out your stepmother sent you to a man, I immediately gave her a harsh scolding!"
"Enough!" Georgia Thorne cut him off, unable to stand his lies any longer.
"You’re the head of the Thorne family. Without your permission, would Hayley Sullivan have the guts to send me to another man’s bed? Just because I don’t say anything doesn’t mean I don’t know!" Georgia Thorne’s face was icy as she spoke, her voice frigid. "I’ve called you ’Dad’ for so many years, but have you ever once treated me like your daughter?!"
"Or am I just a tool for a marriage alliance, like my older sister?!"
That’s why she was so desperate to leave this family.
This wasn’t a home at all!
His daughter’s words made Jared Thorne’s face flush with anger. "Georgia, is that any way to talk to your father?!"
He wanted to refute Georgia Thorne’s words, but he couldn’t find a single thing to say.
Every word Georgia Thorne said was true.
"Oh, so you remember you’re my dad? I’ve called you ’Dad’ for years, and you just stood by silently and watched Hayley Sullivan send me to a strange man’s bed?"
Seeing Jared Thorne try to pull rank as a father, Georgia Thorne felt utterly disappointed in him.
"I was sent to a strange man’s bed, and all you did was give Hayley Sullivan a scolding? And now you even run over here to hypocritically ask if I’m okay? Do you really think I’m going to forgive you because of this belated ’concern’?!"
Georgia Thorne was so furious her eyes were turning red. Seeing how emotional she was, Jared Thorne didn’t know what to say.
The father and daughter stood in an awkward stalemate in the living room for a while. Finally, with an embarrassed expression, Jared Thorne said, "Georgia, you need to calm down. Dad will come see you another day."
Having been scolded by his own daughter, Jared Thorne left in disgrace.
If he could have predicted what happened this morning, he absolutely would not have let Hayley Sullivan take Georgia Thorne to the hotel.
Hearing the sound of a car engine starting downstairs, Georgia Thorne, still standing in the living room, slowly sank to the floor and began to cry.
Nancy Hughes returned home after a busy day out.
Seeing the apartment was pitch-black, she thought Georgia Thorne wasn’t back yet.
The moment she turned on the light, the sight of Georgia Thorne sitting on the sofa gave her a real scare. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"Georgia, you scared me to death!" Nancy Hughes clutched her chest as she slipped into her cotton slippers and came inside.
She set her bag aside. "Why are you sitting here in the dark? I thought a burglar had gotten in!"
Two girls living together, their biggest fear was running into a burglar or someone like that.
It really didn’t feel safe without a guy around.
Georgia Thorne lifted her head from her knees. Her hair was a mess, falling across her face, and her eyes were red and swollen.
Nancy Hughes turned around and was startled all over again.
"What happened to you?"
Georgia Thorne had been crying all afternoon and was exhausted.
She swayed as she got up from the sofa and said weakly, "Sorry, something came up. I didn’t make dinner. You should just order takeout."
With that, she went into her room.
Nancy Hughes sighed, watching Georgia Thorne’s retreating figure as she disappeared into her room.
’What’s wrong with her?’
’It seems like Georgia Thorne has major issues with her family. Every time she goes back, she comes home and cries her eyes out.’
Since Georgia Thorne didn’t make dinner, Nancy Hughes couldn’t be bothered to order takeout either. She just took a shower and went to bed.
In the middle of the night, she felt hungry and got up to find something to eat in the kitchen.
Hearing a persistent noise coming from the front door, Nancy Hughes immediately grabbed a broom and headed toward it.
’Don’t tell me a burglar is actually targeting our place!’
Nancy Hughes crept slowly toward the door. Just as she was about to raise the broom, she saw it was Georgia Thorne coming in.
"Nancy, what are you doing?" Georgia Thorne asked, surprised to see her friend standing there so gracelessly, brandishing a broom.
