Chapter 176: Chapter 166: No One Can Help You Except for Me
After some time, the sound of a door opening came from outside.
Nancy Hughes knocked on her door. "Georgia, are you in there?"
Georgia Thorne wanted to be left alone, so she didn’t answer.
In the pitch-black room, the phone on the bed suddenly chimed a few times, its faint light illuminating the ceiling.
It took her a long moment to react before she picked up her phone. It was a text from Nancy Hughes.
"Georgia Thorne, where are you? I just got home from work and saw your uncle standing downstairs from our apartment building. You need to get back here!"
’Justin Sullivan... he hasn’t left yet?’
Georgia Thorne sat on the bed and took out the business card stuffed in her pocket.
She used her phone’s light to read the card and dialed Mason Morgan.
She hung up before the call went through and dialed Nicole Kane instead.
"Miss Kane, are you free to talk right now?"
Nicole Kane had just finished showering. Stepping out of the bathroom, she dried her hair with a towel. "What is it?"
"I need to talk to you about Mason Morgan."
"Him?" Nicole Kane turned to look at the man in the room, realization dawning on her.
"Hold on, I’ll go outside to talk." Nicole Kane stepped out with her phone, walking to an empty hallway. "Go ahead."
"Miss Kane, do you know why Mason Morgan treats me differently? Once, my stepmother drugged me..."
Georgia Thorne told Nicole Kane the whole story.
The other end of the line was silent for several minutes before Nicole Kane finally spoke. "So, you and Elliot Sheridan have... that kind of relationship?"
"Yes. I was with him for a while."
That period of time wasn’t long, but it wasn’t short either. It was during the prime of her life.
"Georgia, let’s meet tomorrow," Nicole Kane said.
"Okay."
After hanging up, Nicole Kane returned to the room and said to Mason Morgan, "Is what you said true?"
"She was drugged back then, so it’s normal that she can’t remember. But it’s true that Elliot Sheridan had me do it. He made a deal with me."
Mason Morgan took a sip of his drink. Nicole Kane scoffed, only half-believing him.
’So that’s how Mason Morgan managed to land such a huge project all at once.’
Georgia Thorne didn’t sleep all night, thinking about her meeting with Nicole Kane the next day.
At eleven in the morning, Georgia Thorne arrived at the entrance to the private room at the restaurant Nicole Kane had mentioned.
"Miss, this is the private room."
"Thank you."
Georgia Thorne took a deep breath and pushed open the door to the private room. She had barely taken a step inside when she froze.
Inside, it wasn’t just Nicole Kane; there were other people as well.
One was Mason Morgan. And the other was Elliot Sheridan.
’Why is this man, who’s at the height of his success, here?’
Elliot Sheridan had taken off his jacket, revealing a white shirt underneath. He had unbuttoned the top few buttons, the open collar exposing his bronze skin. The sleeves were casually rolled up his arms.
His sharp eyes were narrowed, fixed directly on Georgia Thorne.
His attire was casual yet noble, his expression languid yet serious.
’Counting the days, it had been about half a year since they’d last seen each other.’
Georgia Thorne’s mind went blank for a moment as she stared distractedly at the man sitting in the private room.
Their eyes met across the room. The man’s gaze was deep and bottomless.
"Georgia, you’re right on time. Come, sit." Nicole Kane walked over, took her hand, and led her further into the room.
Georgia Thorne finally snapped out of it and looked at her. "Miss K—"
Nicole Kane pushed her down into the seat next to Elliot Sheridan, giving Georgia Thorne no chance to speak at all.
’She had imagined countless possibilities, but she never thought their first meeting after returning to the country would be under circumstances like these.’
Mason Morgan smiled. "Mr. Sheridan, Miss Thorne, please, eat!"
Georgia Thorne felt like she was sitting on pins and needles. She had just picked up her chopsticks when she quickly put them back down.
"Sorry, I have something else to do. I’ll be leaving now!"
Just as Georgia Thorne stood up, her wrist was seized in a tight grip.
Before she could look down, she heard the man’s sexy, lazy voice. "Georgia, since you’re here, sit down. Don’t give them a show."
Elliot Sheridan’s voice was as gentle as ever, but to Georgia Thorne’s ears, it was exceptionally cold.
The place on her wrist where he held her felt like a burning iron shackle, scorching her skin.
"Mr. Sheridan, please let me go." Georgia Thorne struggled against his grip, only to feel him tighten it.
A smile touched Elliot Sheridan’s lips. He glanced at the pair across from them, the corners of his eyes lifting. "President Morgan, Miss Kane, I wonder if you could give Sheridan a moment to handle a private matter?"
