Chapter 174: Chapter 166: Besides Me, No One Can Help You (1)

Georgia Thorne had an Achilles’ heel that few knew of: her mother, Yara Joyce.

When that weakness was ruthlessly exploited, she was powerless to resist, no matter how hard she tried.

The cemetery manager told her that some people claiming to be her family had come by that morning, saying they wanted to move Yara Joyce’s grave.

As for family, she couldn’t think of anyone else it could be besides Hayley Sullivan and her crowd.

Back when Yara Joyce passed away, Georgia was the only one by her side.

She had spent all her savings on her mother’s medical bills, so when her mother passed away, it was Jared Thorne who paid for the burial and the plot.

Being buried in this cemetery had been her mother’s final wish.

Her mother had a difficult life; she couldn’t let her find no peace even in death.

Let the dead rest in peace.

Respect for the dead is paramount, and yet Hayley Sullivan was actually going to desecrate her mother’s grave.

For the first time in her life, Georgia Thorne called Hayley Sullivan.

"Hayley Sullivan, have you no humanity? My mother is already in her grave, and you still won’t leave her in peace!" Georgia Thorne shrieked, her voice tight with rage.

"Georgia, if you want your mother to rest in peace, you’ll do exactly as I say. Otherwise, I’ll have someone dig up her ashes tomorrow."

"You’ll pay for this!"

"Oh, really? I’ll be waiting to see what kind of payment is in store for me! At seven o’clock tonight, Mason Morgan is coming to our house. If you don’t show up at the Thorne residence, you’ll have to face the consequences!" Hayley Sullivan sneered before hanging up.

’As if I can’t handle one little girl!’

Georgia Thorne stood before her mother’s grave, lit a stick of incense, and bowed her head to the ground three times.

’Mom, I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault for being so useless!’

Georgia Thorne knelt before the grave and cried for a while before heading back.

As she passed the gate, the cemetery manager asked, "Miss Thorne, are you all right?"

"I’m fine. If anything happens, please call me!" Georgia Thorne replied with grave seriousness.

The manager nodded. "Understood."

Georgia Thorne first returned to her apartment to get ready, then headed to the Thorne residence.

Jared Thorne had specially invited Mason Morgan over for a lavish dinner he’d prepared.

Time ticked by, and as seven o’clock approached, Georgia Thorne had still not arrived.

Hayley Sullivan nudged Amanda Thorne under the table. "Go outside and see if that girl is back yet!"

’She refused to believe the girl would dare not return, not with her mother’s grave on the line!’

Amanda Thorne was unhappy about it, but the thought that her entire future rested on Georgia Thorne’s shoulders made her stand up and head outside, albeit reluctantly.

She had barely taken a step when the housekeeper’s voice sounded from the doorway. "Miss Thorne, you’re back!"

Georgia Thorne wore an elegant, cream-colored dress that accentuated her fair skin. Her hair was neither long nor short, falling just right.

Now that she was here, she had no intention of backing down.

’For the sake of her mother’s final peace, if for nothing else, she could not retreat!’

Georgia Thorne offered an apologetic smile. "The traffic was bad. Sorry I’m late!"

Mason Morgan’s sight of Georgia Thorne was both expected and surprising.

"Georgia, what are you just standing there for? Hurry up and sit down. Don’t keep President Morgan waiting!" Hayley Sullivan called out in an exaggeratedly loud voice, waving her over.

As she spoke, Georgia Thorne’s eyes fell on the empty seat next to Mason Morgan, and she made her way toward it.

"Dad. Hello, President Morgan."

"Miss Thorne, you’re looking more beautiful than ever," Mason Morgan complimented, his tone devoid of any hint of flirtation.

"Georgia, hurry up and propose a toast to President Morgan. You two have a history, after all. How can you be so clueless?" With a pointed look from Jared Thorne, a full glass of wine was thrust into Georgia’s hand.

She raised the glass with a stiff smile. "President Morgan, allow me to toast you. I’ll empty my glass as a sign of respect."

With that, she downed the entire glass in one go.

"Miss Thorne is certainly bold."

Mason Morgan had been wondering what kind of trick Jared Thorne would pull. ’He never expected the man to actually push his own younger daughter out to do his bidding.’

’Jared Thorne’s objective was so obvious it was impossible to even feign ignorance.’

Mason Morgan smirked inwardly. ’After all, she’s the one Elliot Sheridan holds so dear. Even if he were interested, he wouldn’t dare lay a finger on Georgia Thorne.’

’Back then, Hayley Sullivan thought she was sending Georgia Thorne to his bed, but she had no idea it was all a plot within a plot.’

’The one pulling the strings from behind the scenes, the one who truly wanted Georgia Thorne, was Elliot Sheridan.’

In response to Georgia Thorne’s toast, Mason Morgan was neither overly enthusiastic nor dismissive.

They had thought they could leverage the last incident to secure a long-term partnership with the Sheridan Group, but who would have known that the connection would be severed after just one project.
