Chapter 168: Chapter 164: He Knew You Were Back and Specially Rushed Over?
Since she was quitting anyway, Nicole Kane wasn’t afraid to offend anyone and spoke her mind directly.
Linda Wagner’s face alternated between pale and livid, yet she couldn’t refute a single word.
Linda Wagner targeted Nicole Kane, and by extension, the employees under her.
For instance, Georgia Thorne.
Linda was a petty woman, and because of a past project, she was constantly ordering Georgia Thorne around.
Georgia got none of her own work done the entire afternoon; instead, she spent it all running errands for Linda Wagner.
After returning to the country, Georgia Thorne was still using her old phone number.
Just before the end of the workday, she received a call from Selena Sheridan, and her fingers went stiff.
She answered the phone with a "Hello?" Selena Sheridan’s voice came from the other end. "Georgia, it’s me."
"Mm."
"Are you free tonight? I’d like to meet up."
"Okay."
"It’s settled then. I’ll be waiting for you at Iris Tolliver at seven."
"Okay!"
A moment of silence passed over the phone before Selena Sheridan hung up.
It had been a long time since she had seen Selena Sheridan. They hadn’t kept in touch while she was in Akashima.
Georgia Thorne arrived at the private room before seven. For once, Selena Sheridan wasn’t late; she was already there, sipping tea.
"Selena, long time no see."
"Mm, sit down and order first," Selena Sheridan said, pushing the menu toward her.
She casually ordered a few dishes. Her appetite hadn’t been very good lately.
A heavy silence filled the private room. Georgia Thorne found her gaze drifting to Selena Sheridan across the table countless times.
’I wonder why she asked me here,’ she thought.
They were once best friends who could talk about anything, but now they had fallen into silent reserve.
Once the food arrived, Selena Sheridan poured herself a glass of wine and looked at Georgia Thorne. "Want some?"
Georgia nodded, and Selena poured her a glass as well.
"I heard you just got back. How were things in Akashima?" Selena Sheridan asked.
"It was okay."
The conversation was just as stilted as their phone call. They were growing more and more distant.
They barely touched their food, focusing instead on drinking.
They went back and forth, glass for glass. A flush crept up Selena Sheridan’s cheeks; the alcohol was clearly starting to hit her.
She downed another glass and slammed it on the table. "This is so awkward! Georgia, why can’t we go back to how we were before?"
"Selena, you’ve had too much to drink. Let me take you home."
Georgia Thorne put down her glass and went to help Selena Sheridan up.
Before she could even touch her, Selena straightened up and waved her hand away. "No! We have to clear the air tonight!"
"How could our years of friendship fall apart because of Justin Sullivan?" A drunken Selena Sheridan finally opened up completely. "My second uncle was right. You can always find another man, but if you lose a sister, she’s gone for good!"
"Georgia, are you angry with me? Is that why you ran off to Akashima?"
One moment, Selena was pushing Georgia Thorne away; the next, she spun around, threw her arms around Georgia’s waist, and burst into tears.
Georgia Thorne had drunk with Selena Sheridan before, so she knew how poorly Selena held her liquor. When she got drunk, she liked to get loud and cause a scene.
"No, I’m not angry." Georgia Thorne couldn’t break free, so she just let Selena hug her.
"You’re lying! Then why did you sneak off to Akashima?"
"I didn’t sneak off. It was a company assignment. Alright, just stop crying!" Georgia was truly at a loss when it came to a drunk Selena.
She pulled out a few tissues to wipe away Selena’s tears, but Selena was sobbing uncontrollably. "Georgia, let’s make up! You don’t know... with you gone, I have no one to confide in!"
Selena Sheridan was really just like a child. She got incredibly angry when upset, but once it passed, it was as if nothing had ever happened.
Georgia Thorne helped the drunken Selena Sheridan into a car. Selena clung to her shoulder. "Georgia, you’re still the best."
"Okay, okay, just hold still!" Georgia Thorne patted Selena’s shoulder and gave the driver an address.
Selena Sheridan had drunk a lot that night and soon fell asleep with her head in Georgia’s lap.
She shifted uncomfortably, and Georgia heard her murmur, "Justin Sullivan, you bastard... don’t you ever show your face to me again!"
As Georgia Thorne took Selena Sheridan back to the Sheridan estate, she was a little afraid of running into Elliot Sheridan.
But then she remembered that Elliot Sheridan had his own private apartment. He rarely stayed at the family home unless it was for official business.
’I shouldn’t be so unlucky as to run into him.’
Georgia Thorne, supporting Selena Sheridan, rang the doorbell. Hearing the voice of his young miss, the butler hurried to open the door.
"She’s had too much to drink, so I brought her home," Georgia Thorne said, panting slightly from the effort.
The butler quickly took Selena Sheridan from Georgia Thorne’s arms. "Thank you, Miss Thorne."
"It’s no problem. It’s getting late, you should hurry and get her to her room."
