Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Georgia Thorne’s Boyfriend
His cold words praised Zane Lennox, a slight smirk playing on his lips.
"You flatter me, Mr. Sheridan. How could I possibly compare to you!" Zane Lennox replied with a smile.
Georgia Thorne’s heart trembled as she listened. ’Why does it feel like both of their words are laced with hidden barbs?’
Even while speaking to Selena Sheridan, Zane Lennox’s gaze never left Georgia Thorne’s face, his attention fixed on her at all times.
She had said she was going out, only to run right into Elliot Sheridan coming in. When she turned back, a blush had crept onto her cheeks.
"Second Uncle, you two know each other!" Selena Sheridan pouted. And to think she had just made introductions.
In the business world, their two companies had frequent dealings, but the two top CEOs rarely met.
The main reason was that Zane Lennox had only become CEO in the last two years. He was young and had spent too little time in the corporate world to be on equal footing with Elliot Sheridan.
Even Zane Lennox’s father, Zachary Lennox, had to show Elliot Sheridan a great deal of deference.
Elliot Sheridan took a drag from his cigarette. "Mr. Lennox, the student has truly surpassed the master. Even your father back in the day wasn’t as outstanding as you are now."
’Daring to touch my woman... he really has surpassed his predecessor.’
As Elliot Sheridan said this, his eyes slid over to Georgia Thorne. He tossed the cigarette butt to the ground and crushed it out with his polished leather shoe.
"Georgia, how is it that I’ve never heard about you dating Mr. Lennox before?" frёeωebɳovel.com
Georgia’s scalp prickled. ’I knew he wouldn’t let me off the hook.’
She lifted her head and forced a hollow laugh. Just as she was about to explain, Zane Lennox spoke up first.
"Georgia and I are dating in secret. She’s timid and shy and didn’t want anyone to know, so we’ve always kept a low profile."
"Oh?" The single syllable rose in pitch, as if Elliot Sheridan believed Zane Lennox’s words. ƒreewebɳovel.com
His gaze toward Georgia Thorne was as cold as iron.
"As far as I know, Georgia has another boyfriend, and that man isn’t you." Elliot Sheridan’s lips curved into a smirk, enjoying the show. "Georgia, why don’t you tell Mr. Sheridan, are you two-timing?"
"If you are, I imagine that other man won’t let you off easy when he finds out!"
This time, not only did Georgia’s scalp prickle, but her entire body went rigid.
"That’s not it! There’s nothing between me and Zane Lennox!" Georgia shot to her feet, frantically refuting everything Zane had just said.
"I’m sorry, Selena. I lied to you! Zane Lennox isn’t my boyfriend."
"What?" Selena Sheridan was completely baffled. Her astonished gaze darted back and forth between Zane and Georgia. "But everything Zane said sounded so..." ’...real!’
’How could the boyfriend she brought to meet me suddenly not be her boyfriend anymore?’
"My boyfriend is someone else. It’s just that he’s a very private person and doesn’t like to be in the spotlight, so I asked Zane Lennox to come and pretend to be my boyfriend," Georgia said in a rush, her heart pounding wildly.
She took a deep breath. "Zane Lennox, thank you for pretending to be my boyfriend, but I don’t need you to anymore."
"Georgia Thorne, what do you mean by that!" Zane Lennox shot up from his chair, unable to sit still any longer.
"Young man, you shouldn’t be so hot-headed, especially not with a girl." Elliot Sheridan’s tone was admonishing, his low voice laced with warning.
Zane Lennox glanced at Elliot Sheridan, whose expression was unreadable.
He forced himself to calm down. "Georgia Thorne, come outside with me."
"Alright!"
To be honest, Georgia really was a little scared of Zane Lennox’s volatile temper. If he got too impulsive, their whole arrangement might be exposed.
In a quiet corner, Zane Lennox stopped walking and spun around to confront her. "Georgia Thorne, do you really have to draw such a clear line between us!"
His iron-tight fist rose, his entire arm tensed with power as he met Georgia Thorne’s fearful eyes.
Terrified, Georgia pressed her back tightly against the wall. "Zane Lennox, I just hope we can stop getting entangled like this!"
"Zane Lennox, I already have someone I like! There was never any possibility between us. Why can’t you just let me go? Consider it letting yourself go, too!" Georgia’s heart pounded in panic, her pupils constricting as they reflected the man’s fist.
When Zane Lennox got impulsive, she was truly afraid his fist would come flying at her.
Zane Lennox gave a bitter laugh. Seeing her look at him with such fear while still stubbornly saying those words made the anger in his heart swell, and he clenched his fist even tighter.
The fist, frozen in mid-air, suddenly shot forcefully toward Georgia Thorne.
Georgia shrieked, squeezing her eyes shut in fear and turning her head away, unable to watch.
Her mind went blank, and her ears were filled with a deafening silence.
Time seemed to stand still for two or three seconds. She felt no pain.
