Chapter 123: Chapter 123: How Is This Any Different From Living Together

Zane Lennox furrowed his brow. The news of Justin Sullivan and Selena Sheridan’s breakup had already caused a huge stir in their social circle.

The cause of Selena Sheridan’s car accident was, nine times out of ten, related to the breakup.

’So, did Justin Sullivan confess to Selena Sheridan or not?’

His deep gaze fell on Georgia Thorne’s slightly furrowed brows. ’She must know.’

Zane Lennox suddenly leaned in, pressing toward Georgia Thorne. Startled, she quickly shrank back against the car door.

Her head hit the glass with a THUD. Ignoring the pain, Georgia Thorne frantically shielded herself. "What are you doing?!"

"You didn’t buckle your seatbelt!" Zane Lennox said, reminding her as he looked down at her small frame.

He sat back in his own seat, back ramrod straight, and watched as Georgia Thorne hastily buckled her seatbelt.

"Georgia Thorne, tell me, what will it take for you to let your guard down around me?" Leaning one hand on the steering wheel, Zane Lennox was suddenly overcome with a sense of helplessness.

’He wanted to be good to Georgia Thorne, to start over with her, but she was completely wary of him.’

Her small hands, in the middle of buckling the belt, paused for a moment before she finished securing it. "Zane Lennox, I’m in love with someone."

"Who is it?" Zane Lennox’s grip on her wrist tightened in a frenzy. "Is it Justin Sullivan, or is it that man who kept you for the past three years!"

’In his empty mind, only these two men came up.’

’The way Georgia Thorne looked at Justin Sullivan was strange. And as for the man who was so intimate with her over the past three years, he hadn’t been able to find a single clue about him.’

’Either one of them was a possibility!’

Georgia Thorne paused. "It’s not Justin Sullivan!"

’Then it must be the man who kept her!’

"Tell me, what’s that man’s name? Who is he?!" The force of his grip on her wrist increased. Georgia Thorne lowered her gaze.

Veins bulged on the back of his hand, looking terrifyingly tense.

She reached out and pried his fingers open, one by one. "And what if you knew? What would you do?"

"Georgia Thorne, you and I are supposed to get engaged!" Zane Lennox slammed his fist on the steering wheel, a monstrous rage churning in his chest with no outlet.

"No, I won’t get engaged to you. And I will never fall for you." Georgia Thorne unbuckled her seatbelt again. "You need time to cool down. I can go see Selena by myself."

Ignoring the fury on Zane Lennox’s face, Georgia Thorne pushed the door open and got out of the car.

She walked quickly toward the bus stop. After waiting a few minutes, the bus arrived, and Georgia Thorne boarded with a group of people.

Inside the car, Zane Lennox slammed the steering wheel again and again, his eyes bloodshot.

’Even when he softened his attitude toward Georgia Thorne, they couldn’t be together for long without parting on bad terms.’

’It’s like they were fated to never be together!’

Watching the bus pull away, he started the engine and followed it. He refused to believe in such a fate.

’No matter what man lived in Georgia Thorne’s heart right now, he would dig him out and make sure her heart had room only for him.’

Georgia Thorne sat by a window seat, irritably watching the scenery for a while. Suddenly, she saw a familiar car driving alongside the bus at an unhurried pace.

She recognized it. It was Zane Lennox’s car.

With mixed feelings, she brushed back a few strands of hair the wind had messed up. ’What does he think he’s doing?’

Georgia Thorne got off the bus and entered the hospital. Zane Lennox’s car followed slowly behind her.

He was driving so slowly that many passersby gave him strange looks.

It was a short walk from the hospital entrance to the inpatient wing. Halfway there, Georgia Thorne finally couldn’t take it anymore and spun around. "Zane Lennox, what on earth are you trying to do?!"

"I’m accompanying you to visit your friend!"

Having calmed down, Zane Lennox had resumed his gentle demeanor. Georgia Thorne’s irritation instantly deflated, and she could only walk quickly ahead.

People on the sidewalk saw the two of them—one driving, one walking—and speculated that they were a young couple who had just had a fight.

Afraid of losing Georgia Thorne, Zane Lennox parked the car at the entrance and locked it.

Georgia Thorne got into the elevator and pressed the button just as Zane Lennox walked in from outside.

The elevator was crowded, and jostling was inevitable.

Zane Lennox stood next to Georgia Thorne, acting like a considerate boyfriend, shielding her in his arms so no one else would bump into her.

Georgia Thorne, who was somewhat averse to being touched by other men, kept a certain distance from Zane Lennox.

The elevator opened with a DING, and Georgia Thorne eagerly stepped out. freēwēbnovel.com

She ignored Zane Lennox until they reached the door to the hospital room, only then putting on a pleasant expression for his sake.

The door was ajar. Georgia Thorne gave a token knock. Selena Sheridan glanced over and said, "Come in."

"Selena, are you feeling any better?" Georgia Thorne walked forward with a strained laugh.

Selena Sheridan replied lukewarmly, "Much better. The doctor said I can be discharged after a few more days of observation!"

"That’s good!" Georgia Thorne nodded. She looked back at Zane Lennox, wondering if she should introduce him, but he had already stepped forward.

"Miss Sheridan, I don’t know if you remember me. I’m Georgia’s boyfriend." Zane Lennox said enthusiastically, stepping up.

Selena Sheridan certainly remembered him. Zane Lennox was Georgia Thorne’s boyfriend; she had once even been envious of how considerate he was to Georgia.

"Mr. Lennox, please have a seat. Ms. Lowell, bring two cups of hot tea over!" Selena Sheridan raised her voice. A few seconds later, a caregiver came over carrying two cups.

Selena Sheridan was a young lady from a wealthy family, used to ordering people around. Elliot Sheridan had specially hired a caregiver for her.

"Ma’am, please clean up the floor," Selena Sheridan said, her face expressionless.

Georgia Thorne glanced at the floor. It was a smashed phone.

’Something must have happened,’ she thought.

Selena Sheridan’s attitude toward Georgia Thorne was still poor, but she warmed up to Zane Lennox.

The two of them sat there and chatted for quite a while. Some of the topics were things Georgia herself couldn’t bear to listen to.

Believing that Georgia and Zane were a couple, Selena Sheridan asked many questions about their relationship.

Several times, Georgia Thorne wanted to interrupt them, but she stopped herself whenever Selena Sheridan’s gaze fell on her.

’Is she asking all this because she’s insecure about my relationship with Justin Sullivan?’

Georgia Thorne made an excuse, wanting to go outside for some fresh air.

With her head down, not watching where she was going, she almost crashed right into the chest of a man who was walking in.

"I’m sorry!"

Georgia Thorne apologized instinctively. When she lifted her head and saw the man’s chin, she froze.

Elliot Sheridan’s gaze was deep as he looked at her. He grasped her small hand and refused to let go.

"Mr. Sheridan!"

Georgia Thorne’s heart pounded with panic. Remembering that Zane Lennox and Selena Sheridan were behind her, she anxiously clenched her hand within his.

Selena Sheridan, who had been talking with Zane Lennox, looked up. "Second Uncle, what are you doing here?"

From their angle, they couldn’t see Elliot Sheridan holding Georgia Thorne’s hand.

Besides, Elliot Sheridan’s face showed no sign of anything unusual.

Georgia Thorne kept her head down, her gaze fixed on their clasped hands. Her heart was THUMP-THUMP-THUMPING, and her face instantly flushed.

Elliot Sheridan squeezed her palm before letting her go and walking into the hospital room.

As if nothing had happened, Elliot Sheridan undid the black button of his suit jacket and glanced at the seated Zane Lennox.

Selena Sheridan quickly made the introduction. "Second Uncle, this is Zane Lennox. He’s Georgia Thorne’s boyfriend."

In front of Elliot Sheridan, Selena Sheridan’s attitude toward Georgia Thorne changed slightly; at the very least, it wasn’t as cold.

"Georgia Thorne, where are you going? Come sit over here!"

When Georgia Thorne heard Selena Sheridan introduce Zane Lennox that way, her knees nearly gave out and she almost fell to the floor.

’Boyfriend? What boyfriend!’ freēwēbnovel.com

She subconsciously glanced at Elliot Sheridan. His eyes were deep, and his gaze seemed to drift toward her, faint yet present.

Georgia Thorne’s heart hammered in fear. The more expressionless Elliot Sheridan was, the greater his anger.

Her heart trembled. She timidly walked toward them, not daring to look up at Elliot Sheridan.

Elliot Sheridan narrowed his eyes and glanced at the head-bowed Georgia Thorne. ’So she knows enough to feel guilty!’

He pulled a cigarette from his pocket and, with a CLICK, lit it and took a drag.

His sharp gaze turned to Zane Lennox. "Mr. Lennox, to become the CEO of the Lennox Group at such a young age... you’re truly a young and promising man."
